Seth Johnson Jr. and Phoebe Canfield (Phoebe was the daugher of *Jared Canfield and Katherine Sly. Phoebe's mother, Katherine Sly, was a Sac Fox Indian of the Algonquin peoples. Phoebe’s brother Dennis and his son Clark (14 years old) fought in the 123rd Ohio Volunteer Infantry during the Civil War. Dennis's wife (Catherine [with a 'C'] Sly), who was also a Sac Fox Indian, and niece of Katherine [with a 'K'] Sly, had warned him, that if he signed up, leaving her to take care of the farm and young children, that she would not write to him at all--a promise which she fulfilled. Dennis and Clark were most likely at the ferocius battle of Chickamagua in Tennessee. Dennis, a fifer, was taken captive and interned at Andersonville prison camp, and released at the end of the war, whereupon he returned to his native Ohio--Huron County, and related events to his niece Laura Johnson--sister of Seth Johnson Jr., south of Toledo, Ohio. Dennis and Phoebe's ( brother, Silas S. Canfield, was the Captain of Co. K, 21st Regiment, Ohio Volunteer Infantry, and had charge of his son George (13 years old). At the battle of Chickamagua, Silas's son George became separated from his command and was given an honorable discharge by General Thomas, who then sent him home to his mother. Silas was captured that day and was sent to Libby prison.
