POSTED 10/07/07 : TIME TO CALL IT A DAY

After 19 years associated with the Colts firstly as a coach and latterly for the last 12 years as chairman I have decided to call it a day and retire from football.

I have enjoyed my time with the club, we have had some great times and I have made some very good friends over the years. When I think back and recall some of the players that have gone through the club starting as wee lads and leaving as young men there were certainly some great characters amongst them and it's very gratifying when one of them stops you in the street or approaches you when you are out somewhere to tell you what a good time they had playing for us, it certainly makes it all worth while when you know the lads enjoyed their time with us.
Over the years we have had some great trips both home and abroad and I leave with many fond memories.

Granted there have been some difficult times but nothing runs smoothly all the time but with the help of a great committee we have in my opinion dealt with these problems professionally and correctly when they have arisen.

But now I honestly feel that it's time for some new blood to take over the reins of the club and, that your new chairman Alan is the right man to take the club forward along with his present committee.

Everyone associated with the club should be proud of what we have achieved over the years when i started with the under 9's we had two teams under 9's and under 12's and now the club has flourished into one of the most respected organisations in the East of Scotland, not that I take any credit for this but I'm very proud to have played my part in it along with you.

Wishing Alan and everyone at the Colts every success for the future.

Duncan

POSTED 29/05/2007 : FRASER MCLAREN STARS FOR SCOTLAND U19s

Scotland Under 19s kept their chances of winning their UEFA group alive with a late 2-1 victory over Georgia at McDiarmid Park last Friday night. Having lost their opening game to Turkey on Wednesday, a win was essential for Archie Knox's team but they suffered an early blow in just three minutes as the vistors shocked the Scots with a goal. Ravazi Barabadze scored from six yards. Scotland got back on level terms in 28 minutes as Steven Kinniburgh's cross was buried by Fraser McLaren of Gretna, to give the crowd something to shout about. Scotland showed more urgency after the break, and nearly got in front as Tom Scobbie's free kick was well saved, then David Goodwillie missed a chance in front of goal. Georgia were reduced to ten men as Mchedlidze received a second yellow card, but it looked like they would steal a point until the dying seconds as Alex Pearce headed a crucial goal.

In the final game against Portugal, Scotland failed to get the win that would have sent them through to the Euro U19s Finals in Austria.

Fabio Coentrao and Rui Pedro fired Portugal into a first-half lead only for Alex Pearce and Darren Smith to level the game with headed goals.. However, the Portuguese finished strongly and netted two late strikes. Portugal progress to the finals in Austria after Georgia held Turkey to a 1-1 draw at Dens Park, Dundee.

POSTED 10/06/08 : U15s VOLUNTEERS

Some interest has been expressed to Club members that it may be possible to start a team at next seasons U15 age group (players born in 1994). If you are interested please contact a member of the committee as soon as possible. Time is short if a team is to get up and running for the new season.

POSTED 10/07/07 : DUNBAR UNITED COLTS TO SHARE STAGE WITH BARCELONA

Dunbar United Colts U12's (1995 age group) will be representing East Lothian as part of the pre-match entertainment at the upcoming glamour challenge match between FC Barcelona and Hearts at Murrayfield on 28 July.
The team will participate in a 5-a-side match against a team from Fife in front of a crowd that Hearts estimate could be as high as 50,000.
Coach Dave Souness commented "This is a fantastic opportunity for the lucky boys who get to play and get the experience to play football in front of such a large crowd in a fantastic venue."
With luck, the boys might get to meet some of the players from Barcelona (Ronaldinho or Thierry Henry perhaps) so its bound to be a day to remember.
Hopefully, we will have some pictures to show on the website after the game has taken place.

POSTED 24/07/2007 : Davie Lees

The Club would like to wish Davie Lees the best of luck in his new appointment as a coach with Tranent Juniors. Davie has been involved with running a Dunbar youth team for over 10 years now and has coached many of Dunbar's finest players - most notably Fraser McLaren, who is now starring for Scotland U19s. Davie will continue in his role as Club Development Officer and will also be found working with the Soccer School on a Monday night. All the best Davie and thanks for all the effort you have put in over the years.
