Juliana was given her first horse when she was seven years old by her father, the Baron Westerville. She named the mare Rainbow. Later, when she was married to Samuel Merrick, the Viscount of Moorefield, she received her second horse. That mare was a gift from her husband for her twenty-seventh birthday and an attempt to reconcile with her after her miscarriage of their child. She named that horse Love.
