Growing through service

As we serve, we help all the people around us without expecting anything in return. In doing this, however, we are getting something. We are getting experience, knowledge, and love. All of these things help us grow and help us to be better people. When we serve, we help everyone, including ourselves.

In the book The Words of Martin Luther King, Jr., we find this quote:

"We are prone to judge success by the index of our salaries or the size of our automobiles, rather than by the quality of our service and relationship to humanity."
Martin Luther King, Jr. is saying that people who serve, no matter their salaries or assets, they are more successful than those who do not serve. These people have grown more than those who have not served. This is the amazing thing about serving, that you help yourself through helping others.
