Portals to other worlds...
Official
The
best publication in Michigan, the Detroit Free Press is the
paper that got me hooked on this journalism thing. They do a
lot of work for the community especially for children, not to
mention teenagers. If you are in Detroit or come for a visit
then look at the news stands and pick up a copy of the Free
Press
Couldn't give
out links without linking my own school. If you want info
on the best school in Ohio and one of the top universities
in the nation, go to this site. It's what made me want to
attend OSU in the first place.
The group that
I have been involved with for three years. Here is their site.
"Mosaic is a multi-cultural arts organization whose mission
is to develop young performing artist through comprehensive
theatrical and musical training and to provide high quality
performances for audiences of all ages."
Here is the
official site of Cedar Point. Find pictures, movies, live
web cameras (wow this sounds a lot like a porn site) and information
about the best amusement park in the world.
One of the best
bands around, Jelly's Pierced Tattoo combines funk with alternative
music along with other genres to make a melting pot of music.
Here you can learn about the group and what each member is
doing. The lead singer, Jelly is now working at Second City
as a comedic actor. If you don't know, Second City is where
a lot of other people from places like Saturday Night Live
got started. Spread a little Jelly!
The
premier hip-hop site. Here you have some of the greatest hip-hop
artists who are true to their work. You will find folks like
Talib Kweli, The Roots, Erykah Badu, and more. Check it out
and see if you like what you hear
Jewel has been my favorite
artist since 1998 when her album Spirit made its debut.
I liked it so much that I named my dog after the album. Jewel
can always offer up beautiful melodies that seem to transport
listeners to a dream world, but always adding a chunk of reality.
On her site, you can find all types of photos, videos, and writings
by the one and only, Jewel
My first punk rock band,
Something Corporate. Introduced to me by my friend Anthony,
Something Corporate is a group with great sound. They incorporate
piano into their music which sets them apart from a lot of bands.
It gives them more of a melody to work with than just that general
sound created by just guitars and drums. I have seen Something
Corporate a few times already with Anthony and I plan to see
them more.
MAE was a band that
I saw at my first Something Corporate concert and I thought
and still think that they are one great band. MAE is more of
a regular rock band that knows how to keep the crowd jumping.
The lead singer has a very soft voice, but when it is time to
turn it up a notch, he does. MAE has a very even sound. One
bass, one guitar, one drummer, one keyboard, one rhythm guitar
and that's what I like about them. You don't hear this overhelming
sound of guitar or drums.
This is a group that
I saw when I went to go see Something Corporate for a second
time. They were the very first act to go on. When they got up
on stage, I prepared for the worst. This was because there were
only three guys on stage. Most bands I've seen have at least
five. But when they got up there, I was surprised. The band
has a very full sound to it, as if there were even more people
on stage with them. Their lead singer has been said to have
a voice like Bono from U2 and I have to agree. Sleeping At Last
is more EMO than punk rock.
Unofficial
One of the best
sites I have ever seen about my favorite amusement park, Cedar
Point. There you will find pictures, information, and even
a forum devoted to the number 1 amusement park in the world.
My
favorite forum dedicated to the musical RENT. Talking to these
folks is always fun but not for the light of heart. They can
get pretty mean but it's all in fun. All they ask for is a little
intelligence before you post.
Owned and operated
by the same guy as Guide to the Point, Coaster Buzz is for
all coaster enthusiasts. There you can get news, photos and
an even larger forum to discuss roller coasters and games.
My mentor
from the Detroit Free Press speaks out about absolutely
anything she wants, and let me tell you, she has a big
mouth. At her site, Kelley brings up everyday events and
people are free to discuss them. There is always fun to
be had at her site.
A friend
for a long time, the newly reincarnated Rahiem brings
his life to the internet. The number one buzz is his journal,
where you can read freely about his life and things that
go on in it. Rahiem is a talented and poetic writer which
brings me to his site very often. But don't get him wrong,
he is still from the street. Keep writing homie. Keep
writing.
One of the coolest
people I know here at OSU has been writing in a web journal
for a while now. He is true to how he feels and he reports
it very often on his Xanga. Maybe when you read, you can
see why I think the guy is as cool as he is.
This
is another friend from OSU who is writing in a Live Journal.
Link is a great guy who has quite an intersting journal.
If you want to laugh and learn about his life, I'd click
on his name.
My
2004-2005 roommate in Drackett Tower not only has a Xanga,
but a website dedicated to his row in The OSU Marching Band,
better known as "The Best Damn Band In The Land."
Dan takes a lot of pride in the band, as he should. He also
takes great pride in his row of Flugelhorn players. Check
out his Xanga and his website, but make sure there is nothing
bad about me.
Yet
another OSU bud of mine. In fact, Anthony is the first
friend I made at OSU outside of my roommates and Jennifer.
He is a great kid that always has something going on.
If you hang out with him, there is a big chance that you
will be going on some type of adventure. I know I have.
Now you can read his Live Journal
I
found out that one of the interns that I worked with was
in a band. Recently he gave me one of their CD's and they
actually sound good. Ian plays rhythm guitar and bass
when one of the musicians is gone. Check out their site
and buy a CD.
Andrey
decided to keep a Xanga and I think it's great. I think
he will get the same satisfaction out of documenting events
and emotions as I do. Andrey is a friend that I met during
my internship in South Bend, IN. He is a great guy.
Now
it might just be me, but I think this site is hilarious.
This band makes up songs and cartoons to go with them. It
is positively addictive and I love listening to them. Some
of my favorite music videos by them are, "School Bus",
"Hypothermia" and "Fling Fling." Check
out the site and see if this humor is the type you like.
I
was introduced to this site when a friend of mine wanted
to show me a flash video called "Subliminal messages
and music." In fact, I may have shown that video to
you sometime before, but for those of you who I haven't
shown, I will not ruin the surprise. This site brings together
a lot of flash artists and puts their work out there. They
are all very funny.
Another
funny site, but instead of flash videos, these are real videos.
One of my favorite videos is the little boy cursing out the
cashier at his local liquor store. It is so funny the things
people do in real life.
