My French Teacher is an Evil Sorcerer
It was the last ten minutes of the last and longest class of the day,
French. Terri sat, drawing up a storm and worrying about color when Mr.
Grant wasn't looking. Tanya sat to her right, watching her at work and
wondering about story ideas, knowing full well that if she ever wrote them
down they would come true as though it were a wish placed upon a star. She
intended to write them anyway. The poofy
haired teacher was doing his rounds around the class, trying futilely to
get everyone working on their class work. "His emotionless, "Quiet
please!" spread across the room without any
reaction. Agonizingly long minutes passed
until there was but one left. After a few tries, Mr. Grant finally made
his announcements to the class and looked around to see that everyone had
already packed up. The bell went seconds later and there was a mad rush to
leave. "Terri," Grant called, "Tonya, I've
finished marking your project." Tanya winced
in annoyance when he said her name. He could never get it right until he
was corrected a few times, and even then he would forget after a few
minutes. Never the less, both she and Terri reported to his desk, anxious
to see their mark. "Oh!" he exclaimed. "I left
the tape in the photocopy room." He hurried out of the room, leaving the
two girls on their own. "I wonder. . ." Tanya
said to herself, but quickly dismissed the thought. Her story wasn't
finished yet, so it couldn't be happening now.
Mr. Grant returned with another teacher at
his side. He was shorter than the teacher than he was replacing but Mr.
Fadam was still a good five feet tall. He had dark hair and eyes and a
darker disposition. Tanya met his eyes for an
instant and he smiled evilly. Her eyes widened in recognition and a touch
of fear. "Terri, run," she said calmly to her
friend. "What?" Terri asked skeptically,
looking at Tanya as though she had gone crazy.
"No seriously Terri, get ou-aw shit." A brilliant light flared around them
and Tanya found the herself and Terri is a familiar transparent blue box
with no holes, no door, no way out. Terri
reached her hand out tentatively and quickly pulled it back once she
touched the wall. "What is this thing?" she asked no one in particular.
And then she went eerily still. "What do you
want, Merlin?" Tanya asked Fadam, recognizing the sorcerer beneath the
disguise. "No wait, I know that already. Oh, I got it, how the
hell did you get out of
limbo?!" "I never made it to limbo. I slipped
out in the middle of a desolate wasteland and was stuck there, thanks to
you. I was lucky that I got out of there and that I found others that knew
where you were and were ready to hand you
over." "Ha ha, Mr. Grant's a
minion." "I'm disappointed," Merlin said. "You
seemed so scared last time." "Get over it,"
Tanya retorted. "And let Terri go, she has nothing to do with
this." "Oh no, That's the beauty of it. You
can't use magic now, because then she will know and she will tell
everyone. No one trust a witch. If you'll excuse me, I have detention kids
to watch." "Have fun," Tanya said, falsely
sweet. "Check on them and get the rest of your lackeys together. Change
into your robes, but leave time frozen. Don't forget to release Terri,
though, or else your little plan won't work."
"I believe I will," Merlin agreed. "Grant, watch them." Merlin left as
Terri began moving once more. "What's going
on?" Terri asked, not aware anytime had
passed. "I'll explain in a minute," Tanya said
before muttering something under her breath. "Mr. Grant!" she called.
"Don't you have some photocopying to do? And don't you want to change into
your robes now? There is no way the two of us going to escape from
this." "Yes," Grant said. "I do have other
things to do."He left with a few binders under his
arm. "What did you do?!" Terri demanded. "I'm
dreaming, right? I fell asleep in French."
"Why do people always automatically assume that? Okay, how can I put this
simply? Mr. Grant is an evil sorcerer, so are a couple other teachers in
this school. They are all under Mr. Fadam, aka Merlin, who wants to
destroy me because, surprise, I have magical powers. Now, if you'll excuse
me, I have to change the parameters of this
spell." "Ha!" Terri exclaimed. "I've been
pulled into a really messed up fairy tale."
"Hey, this is one of my stories! That's the bulk of my power, writing
stories and having them actually happen.
Laurissa!" "Where are you?" a familiar voice
called from outside. "In my French portable.
Go get Jaci and Tara, but don't run into Fadam, Rajala or Sexton, got
it?" "I wouldn't want to, anyway,"she called
back surely. "Jaci?!" Terri screeched.
"What's she gonna do, whine them to death?!"
"Still think you're dreaming, huh?" Tanya asked. "Whatever. Do me a favor,
when the genie appears make your first wish, 'I wish for the genie to make
my wishes.' Got it?"
"Okay." "Tanya, I'm borrowing your power for a
bit," she said to the ceiling. "Mishnu karana I'm a genie in a bottle baby,
come on and let me out kilomalano." In a puff
of smoke, she was gone and replaced by a small, delicate looking bottle.
Terri picked it up and gently rubbed it, despite the urge to smash it into
a thousand pieces. Smoke curled out around the
stopper and swirled round until Tanya's head was visible and her torso was
nothing but smoke floating above the bottle. "I am the genie of the
bottle," Tanya announced. "You have three
wishes." "I wish for the genie to make my
wishes," Terri said after a moments
hesitation. "Great,"Tanya said, her
personality returning. "I wish for Terri, Tara, Laurissa and Jaci to gain
the abilities, skill and otherwise from their counterparts from Jira's
land except Laurissa must be on our side. Understand, they do not gain the
memory of their counterparts. Last wish, I wish for the genie to revert
back to her normal form with her full powers."
There was another puff of smoke and Tanya was once more herself.
"I'm sorry, but that was the stupidest spell
I've ever heard," Terri said with a hint of laughter in her
voice. "Yeah, but at least it
worked."
"So, about your story
that we're trapped in. You finished it,
right?" "Hey, Laurissa's here with Jaci and
Tara! God, they look spooked." Terri eyed her
skeptically. "Hang on," she said, looking past Tanya and her other
friends. "Why aren't those guys moving?" Outside the guys they normally
hung out with were completely still. Matt was even tripping, but not
moving. "Frozen in time," Tanya explained
simply. "What's going on?" Jaci asked with her
usual whine. "T?" Laurissa asked curiously.
"What-?" "X-nay on the ee-tay," Tanya said
insistently, "but Tanya's not here, no." "Did
you know she has magical powers?" Terri asked.
"Yeah right!" "No
way!" "Yeah," Laurissa admitted.
"So?" The three stared at her in amazement as
Tanya smiled inward. "I have two minutes to explain everything. Okay, I'm
getting you guys to go up against Fadam, Grant, Rajala and Sexton but I
don't know which one's Merlin. God damn him and his body switching.
They're all evil sorcerers out for my blood. I gave all of you the powers
of your counterparts in my story. Jaci, stop whining, in my story you can
fight. Now, I'm gonna try and break us out of
here." Tanya charged her finger and attempted
to cut through the clear blue walls. As her finger penetrated the surface
of it, a shockwave spread through her, causing her to writhe away in pain.
Some how she managed to stay on her feet. As her head cleared, she could
hear the worried voices of her friends. "He
did his homework," Tanya commented. "Magic-proof cage this time. Man that
packs quite a. . . ugh." Terri moved quickly
to steady her. "You gonna be okay?" she asked
worriedly. Before anyone knew what was going
on, Tanya and Terri began to sink through the portable floor. Jaci began
to panic slightly and looked on the verge of crying. The pair disappeared
completely for a moment before coming up in front of
them. "Don't look so shocked," Tanya said.
"She told you I have magic. Now-" "Now
you die." The group of them turned to see the doorway, now filled with
their teachers in long wizard robes. "Yeah, I
think not," Tanya said calmly. "Meet my friends, who will see to your
downfall, no prob." "Them?" Mr. Sexton asked
skeptically. "Ha! This should be fun." "For
us, anyway. Let's take this outside." Instantly, they fond themselves in
the middle of Shield's field. Though the girls seemed utterly disturbed by
the sudden relocation, the sorcerers and Tanya remained perfectly
calm. "Tanya I'm not so sure about this. . ."
Tara said shakily. "You'll be fine," Tanya
reassured her. "Oh, and this is not a dream!" She shocked each of them in
turn to make sure they knew that she was not kidding. "Okay, Tara, Wissa,
here are your necklaces." After a strange gesture with her hands a
necklace appeared around the two girl's necks.
"What are you going to do?" Terri asked. "Hold
the spells together," Tanya replied simply. "Wouldn't want Jaci to lose
her nerve in the middle of a fight. You can fight!" she snapped suddenly
at Jaci. A bombardment of random spells
rained down and tossed them ten meters away from their friends. Laurissa
and Tara were faced with and backing away from their respective socials
teachers, Mr. Fadam and Mr. Rajala. Terri held her ground as Mr. Grant
advanced and Jaci kneeled on the grass, too scared to move as Sexton came
forth. "You had better damn well be sure we
can do this!" Terri called to Tanya. Tanya now
sat in the middle of the semicircle created with her legs crossed and a
look of deep concentration on her face. She brought up her arms, crossing
them across her torso without allowing them to touch anything but air.
"Wissa, Jaci! Catch!"Tanya closed her eyes and inhaled deeply.
"Slicartum!" she commanded and two weapons appeared beneath her arms and
shot out. A dagger raced past Laurissa's head.
She grabbed the hilt as it past her ear and began using it immediately to
block the boulder heading her way. Jaci leaned
back at the last possible moment before it nailed her in the arm. As
her hand touched the hilt, she went through an amazing transformation. As
she spun the broadsword to fit her grip, her eyes changed from tear-filled
to those burning with a cold fire. "What the
hell did you do to her?!" Tara screamed as she dodged anther spell dealt
out by Rajala. Seeing that she and Tara were
growing tired from dodging, Tanya decided they would need a brief
tutorial. "Tara, you can fly, you can shoot fire from your hands and when
you do both at the same time you turn into a phoenix!" Tara tested the
powers and found them to be true. She excitedly began pelting Rajala with
fire and flying out of the way when he
retaliated. Tanya threw a shield up around
Terri to block the onslaught. "Terri, you're a freakin' dragon child! Turn
into a dragon or something and cast a spell!" Within moments, Terri had
taken the advice and was replaced by an obsidian black dragon. Withdrawing
the shield, Tanya watched as Terri slowly got used to her new form and the
powers that came with it. Tanya's
concentration was stretched to the brink. All she could do now was watch
happily as her friends held their own and even got the better of the
sorcerers. Tara had gotten the hang of the firebird form and Terri turned
back into herself but retained the wings for better maneuverability. Tanya
marveled at the similar fighting style Laurissa had to her
bodyguard/assassin counterpart. Jaci had reverted back into a warrior of
such skill she had never before seen. As
Tanya's eyes wandered across the epic battle raging, she saw a flash of
pitch black magical energy. "Terri, be careful!" she called. "Merlin's in
Grant!" The fight continued on and neither
side showed any give or take. The sorcerers were, however, growing visibly
tired with each passing moment and got incredibly sloppy in their tactics.
Ten minutes later, the four were completely at the mercy of their
students. Each took pleasure in throwing their
respective teachers face down on the grass before Tanya. "What now?"
Laurissa asked as she eyed the sorcerers suspiciously.
"We have a little Q and A while I decide
whether to kill them or strip them of their powers," Tanya replied
shakily. She was obviously growing weaker by the minute, regardless of how
much she tried to act like nothing was wrong."You
first." The sorcerers clamored in an attempt
to beg for mercy. Grant hissed at them and they fell silent. "It's
pointless to ask for mercy from her," he raged. "She's the most powerful
being on the planet now! I want to know how you can have so many spells
going at once. Tell me!"
"Four of them were
wishes so I get outside help for those. You should know that. I didn't
realize the wish wouldn't kick in until they began using the magic or
wielding a weapon. That's how I transformed you," she said, turning to her
friends. "Tara became the girl who absorbed a fire spell with a flight
pendant. Terri is now the last of her clan and has rediscovered her dragon
heritage. Jaci became the great general of against Niteshade's last
resistance. Laurissa, now Wissa the assassin and personal bodyguard to
Niteshade herself. All I had to do was make sure no one would kill any one
else, keep the time freeze going, and put enough magic energy to keep the
wishes strong." "What?!" Grant exclaimed.
"Where's outside help?!" "Nuh-uh," Tanya
interrupted. "My turn now. Why didn't you go into Grant first? Or Rajala,
for that matter?" "It was all I could do not
to kill you on the spot! I was nearly trapped in limbo for all eternity
because of you. That waste pit wasn't much better,
though." "Why are they so quiet?" Sexton asked
nervously. "During class she never shuts up."
"Because I'm making the spells part of them."
The four girls did a double take. "You WHAT?!" they exclaimed in
unison. "Oh, don't worry. You won't feel a
thing and you'll only be able to use it when time freezes. Besides, it's
just a little mark where your collar bones almost
meet." "Mark?" Tara asked
skeptically. "Yeah, you get a phoenix wing.
Wissa, you get your pendant and a dagger. Jaci, a broad sword and Terri,
the dragon's crest of tooth, claw and dragon's breath. Besides, it only
shows when time doesn't exist and only activates when you touch it and
wish for it again." "How can you be so calm
about this?" Terri asked. Tanya was now
breathing heavily. Slowly, she lifted her hand to display that it and her
arm was now composed of intricately woven twigs and a few leaves. "It's
not as hard as you might think," she panted.
"Okay, we gotta get Tanya here now!" Laurissa
demanded. "But that is
Tanners!" Jaci whined. "What's happening to
you?!" "The truth is," Laurissa began, "the
real Tanya is in another dimension and this is her double she made from a
plant so no one would miss her. Don't get me wrong, T may be a plant but
she's a sorceress in her own right." "Damn
straight. And we ain't telling Tanya nothing!"
"I hate to interrupt this," Merlin began, "but I must take my revenge
now." Their attention swerved back to the sorcerers. Grant was standing
amidst the bodies of his former companions. "Oh, don't worry," he assured
the girls when he saw the look on their faces. "They're still alive, just
magicless and doomed to live a life of
normality." Grant smiled cruelly. "Now I have
enough power to take on those elemental kids of
your's." A fury leapt into Tanya's tired eyes.
She jumped towards him to attack, but was caught at the throat. She choked
and struggled to breathe as his grip held fast. Endless moments past as
Tanya slowly gave up. No one moved, petrified by the scene.
Out of nowhere there came a brilliant
blinding flash of magic and all went dark. It
was the last ten minutes of the last and longest class of the day, French.
Again. Terri felt as though she were having a serious deja vu experience.
She looked at Tanya who was resting her head on the desk.
"Tanya, did I just imagine that whole thing?"
she asked. Tanya turned her head to look at
her and lifted it wearily. "Forget about it," she said. By the time the
bell rang ten minutes later, she had done just
that.
