About Us
"Diperantauan"
- To be away from home, overseas.
We are a Malay Singaporean
couple currently stuyding, working and living in Edinburgh, Scotland.
We initially met while
studying in Heriot-Watt University (1998 - 2000). Over the course
of two years, our feelings for each other steadily grew and we
were happily engaged late last year (Sept 2000).
With Allah's grace and
our familys' blessings, we were wed on 4th of April 2001. It was
the happiest day of our lives. Now, we are spending our days happily
together and look forward to years of blissful marriage life...*smiles*.

Born on 13th June 1976,
to Juraimi and Habsha (my lovely parents). I have fond memories
of my chilhood. Not according to mum though, she says I was a
'handful' to take care of...hehe. As a child, I was very inquisitve
and mum says I couldn't sit still. I wouldn't want to speculate
the number of times I got into trouble...*grins*.
It didn't help when I
got a little baby sister in 1980. Aisha was the gem of the whole
family...and I guess I was jealous of her then...*laughs*. We
had our usual brother-sister fights, in fact mum was up to her
sleeves separating us back then...hehe. Anyway, time played its
part as it always does, and Aisha and me grew closer as the years
went by. She is now a mature and aspiring young lady. To me, she
will always be my 'super-sister' and a close confidante. As of
this year, she will be completing her diploma course and moving
into teaching. All the best sis!
School has always brought
back a lot of memories to me. My formative years were spent amongst
other Singaporean children like me in 'neighbourhood' schools.
I received my primary schoold education in the now defunct Balestier
Primary School (1983 -1988). Carefree times spent playing away
in the school field with friends and learning new, interesting
things in class. I miss those days.
I moved on into secondary
school life rather hesitantly, not knowing what to expect. Thankfully,
it was here that I felt I made the closest friends (till now)
and grew a little more wiser. Thinking about it, I couldn't have
asked for a better environment than that in Beatty Secondary School
(1989 - 1992). The teaching staff was great and caring, always
there for us students. Always the active one, I joined a number
of extra-curricular activities in my days there, including the
athletics, soccer and hockey school teams, the National Cadet
Corps and the school's Malay Language Society.
I did well enough in
the GCE 'O' Levels examinations to allow me to proceed to Singapore
Polytechnic (1993 - 1996) to do a diploma in Electronics Computer
and Communications engineering.
Upon graduating from
the course, National Service (NS) beckoned. Like thousands of
young Singaporean males before me, I was drafted into the Singapore
Armed Forces as a recruit trainee. Three long, hard and unforgettable
months of Basic Military Training later, I was then posted out
to join the Singapore Police Force to spend the rest of my stint
as a NS Inspector. I must say, in the context of Singapore, NS
is definitely a memorable part of most, if not all, young mens'
lives here. I did my share of it, and boy do I certainly have
my stories to tell...*chuckles*.
It was in the midst of
NS that I decided to continue my studies overseas. With mum, dad
and Aisha's support, I enrolled into Heriot-Watt University, Edinbugh
(1998 - 2000) to do a BEng. in Electrical and Elctronics. With
Allah's blessing, I graduated after two years there. The time
spent here have been an eye-opening experience for me. To learn
and observe a different culture and social environment has been
invaluable. I hope it will come in useful one day, and even if
it doesn't, then I would have had the opportunity to expand my
horizons and enrichen my outlook on life...*smiles*. To top it
all off, I met my wife MImi here. She's just the most wonderful
person I know, and I hold her dear to my heart. She's my best
friend, my strongest critic and my closest soulmate.
Well, at present I am
taking a postgraduate course in multimedia. It is something which
I am very interested in, and hope to pursue. Hopefully, I'll be
able to find a job related to my field of study. Then again, why
stifle my interests...hehe. Whatever it may be, my priorities
are to my beloved wife and family. These are the things that will
never change, wherever I may end up and whatever I may be doing
in future.
