Italy - Barberino Val d'Elsa
Elizabeth and Mary arrived at the town
The bus was a trial so we came with a frown.
But a few minutes here in the bright Tuscan sun
We knew that our holiday would be so much fun

Only four days to fit it all in -
Barberino, Siena, and far off San Gim.....
We mastered the timetable
And the little blue bus.
The locals were friendly
We travelled without fuss.

Siena delighted
With its fan shaped main square
Huge tower, great frescoes,
And churches to spare.

The wall of the Duomo
Had us in awe
'Twas only the start!
We had not seen the floor.

San Gim was a treat,
We walked round the walls
We avoided the crowds
And the view never palls

The alleys and archways
A picturesque treat;
Such fun to explore
On our way out to eat.

Our restaurant in town here
With its sweet lady cook
Hosted us each night
Never needing to book.

Barberino our favourite
By a wide country mile.
We hope we'll be back
In a very short while.

And on to other parts of Tuscany......
"Our villa" on the edge of the town walls
A Barberino alley - no room for cars and we had it to ourselves most of the time
The creche - the little ones looked very happy.  They all wore long smocks over their clothes
