Life at the University of Bath
I'm in my final year here now, and I can safely say that Bath University is great!  I'm studying pharmacy, and although we say it ourselves we are one of the best departments in the country! (Better than Cardiff anyway!)  Some how I came here through clearing after failing to get into medical school, and so far it's been good.  Okay, you are meant to study, but there's lots of other things to do as well.
CHORAL SOCIETY
One of the many socities available at the University of Bath is the Choral Society.  In my first year we mastered Mozart's Requiem, which we performed in a local church at the end of Novemeber.  It's £2 to join the society, and for that you get to sing your little heart out!  You also get reductions on trips organised by the society, for example we went to see Les Miserables at the Bristol Hippodrome.
LANGUAGE OPTIONS
At the University of Bath, all students have the opprotunity to take up a language.  I have lived in Germany before, and that is my favourite language but it was a bit awkward because I'd done AS German so I thought that Post A-level German would be too hard and Post GCSE German would be going backwards.  So .... I settled for Post GCSE French.  In the first year the classes take place on a Tuesday afternoon.  Most of the French I knew is coming back, and the classes have been interesting.  It's very beneficial to know another language these days.
CHARITY SHOPS
Yes, they have lots of them in Bath just like the rest of the country.  Since my first year I have helped out in the Imperial Cancer Research shop (now just become Cancer Research U.K.) on a Saturday morning. It is very rewarding and a good way to meet new people.  Unfortuantely, I have just stopped work because it's final year and I have got too much work to do, but I loved working there and made some good friends.
ACCOMODATION
All first year students are guaranteed University Accomodation in their first year here.  Considering I came through clearing, I was very lucky to get a place on campus.  I shared a house in Eastwood with 12 other girls in my first year, and now I live with four other pharmacy students in a house in Oldfield Park, the student area of Bath.
THE CITY
The University of Bath is about a few miles out of the city centre, a 10 minute bus ride away.  The city itself is very beautiful and historic.  There are many tourist attractions, such as the Roman Baths and Pump Rooms, the Royal Crescent and the Assembly Rooms.  Bath has been built in a uniform colour of Bath stone.  It is the only world heritage city in the U.K.
ENTERTAINMENT
Okay, Freshers week was good, and there is a club and a couple of bars on campus, but lets face it - Bath is hardly known for its night life!  Due to local regulations because it is a heritage city, all clubs are underground and tend to be dark and small.
THE CAMPUS
The campus here is very compact and has everything a student could want.  The only thing is, it is made from concrete, which means that the only colour you see form outside is - well, it's about the colour of this page really! Apart from that, it's really good.  My department is based in 5 West (all buildings are E or W in relation to the library, and odd numbers are north and even numbers are south.
THE COURSE
Okay, I'm not going to lie, pharmacy is tough but so far it's been quite interesting.  I'm in my final year now, and it has got better as we've gone along.  We have learnt a lot and last summer I was able to put it all into practice when I worked for a period in community and hospital pharmacy.  I have now got a pre-registration place lined up at the Royal Surrey County Hospital in Guildford, which I'm really looking forward to.  Just have to pass those finals first!
