When the sun is shining in the Northern hemisphere and the watch laying flat on the ground, point the hour hand of the watch towards the sun.  The space half-way between the hour hand and the minute hand twelve is the south/north line  Before twelve noon,  north is the line of the bisected angle running counterclockwise from the hour to minue hand.  After twelve noon, north is the line of the bisected angle running clockwise.  Why does this work?
