Star Trek, once a mere low-budget, science fiction television series, has become nothing less than a cultural phenomenon. Since its inception, Star Trek has spawned five major TV series, an animated series, nine major motion pictures, hundreds of books, perpetuating conferences, uncountable web sites, and last but hardly least, torrents of merchandise known as 'trekabilia'. Without exaggeration, its fan-base consists of people from all walks of life, all over the world.
