Explaining the Order of Service

The #'s

The #'s listed are from the UU Hymnal: Singing The Living Tradition. They indicate the song, saying, etc that is used by this congregation during service.

The Great Nourishment Exchange

This congregation engages in a small exchange of food. Each person is encouraged to bring a food item or items. During the prelude music each member brings this item or items to the designated space and it is during the postlude music that each person then later goes back and picks up a food item that they did not bring. This simple action....simple ritual....is symbolic to many in our congregation without being specific to any one faith tradition.

Sharing Candles
Each person comes forward at this time and lights a candle using the flame from the chalice. This candle, known as a sharing candle, is a time for that person to share briefly the meaning of that candle for them: a joy, a concern, a sorrow....a milestone, etc that has happened in their life that week.
