I love reading fanfiction. I really, really do. And it's a lot easier than writing my own, thus making it my favourite excuse for procrastination. I've read everything from tear-jerkers to side-splitters. I've come across truly exquisite stories, and some of these talented authors are not very well known. So I've taken it upon myself to list some of my favourites, according to fandom and type. For organizational purposes, I've listed them in alphabetical order of the author's name.

LORD OF THE RINGS

Action / Adventure

Of Falcons and Mumakil by L
Personally, I quite like this version of Lothiriel. I like how she gets the upper hand of Eomer a lot of the time, and she's portrayed as the strong character I imagine her to be. Of course, not everyone is very keen about it, so a warning for an annoying!Elphir.
Pairing: Eomer/Lothiriel | Timeline: Post-ROTK | Rating: light R

The King's Commission by Larner
Features Ruvemir the Master Sculptor, one of my most favourite OMCs.

Lesser Ring by Larner
The tale of two visits to Harad.

The Healer and the Warrior by Madeleine

Land of Light and Shadows by Thundera Tiger

Fear No Darkness by Thundera Tiger

Drama / Angst

Humor / Parody

Alternate Universe

The Modern-Girl-In-Middle-Earth Story that Even Purists and Canatics Will Read (yes, Boz gets her very own category)

Don't Panic! by Boz4PM (Nienna)
From medieval toilets to what the Travellers' names really are, this is one fanfic you should be carrying if you ever fall into Middle-Earth.

OK, Now Panic!
This sequel follows Penny through the journey of the Rivendell entourage following the end of the War of the Ring.

Hobbit (I think these guys are a fandom all of their own ^_^)

A New Reckoning by Dreamflower
One of the best post-ROTK Shire stories I've ever read (and re-read). Mind you, I just love all of Dreamflower's works, she has a talent for making Hobbits come to life between the words. Very long, though, so make sure you're sitting somewhere comfortable before you begin.

QUEER AS FOLK (US)

Because of the mature content in the majority of QAF fanwork, I've placed all QAF recs in the red slash zone of my site.

The link above leads to material of mature content.
Please do not click unless you are over the age of majority in your locale (in most places in the USA, this is 17 years).

What is slash?

Slash refers to the depiction of a homoerotic relationship (fictional or otherwise) between two characters of the same gender.
The stories here consist exclusively of male/male pairings
