Shark Attacks Down In 2003
Shark attacks were down again in 2003 for the third straight year. Why you ask? probably because more surfers and swimmers are realizing the danger and taking more precautions.
Reports say that there were 55 unprovoked attacks worldwide, down from 63 reported in 2002.
"I think people are beginning to get a little more intelligent about when and where they enter the water," says George Burgess, director of the International Shark Attack File.
Most of last year´s attacks were in U.S. waters, One of which was 13-year-old surfing champion Bethany Hamilton, who lost an arm in an attack in Hawaii.
