Dragoon Creek

It was our first trip for summer of 2001. We'd heard about a campsite that was only about 17 miles out of town. It is called Dragoon Creek. It is a Washington State DNR sight.

You might think, "What so special about a DNR sight?" The answer is easy: It's free! Like I said above, it's close. Only 17 miles from home, compared to some places we've camped that have taken hours to get there. Now if we forget something, we can just go back and get it and it's not a big deal.

Another reason this was an important trip was that it was the first trip that I got to stay with just me and the boys all by ourselves! My hubby drove up with us on Friday and help us set up camp. He then had to go back into town and get ready for work, and put our dog, Sassy into a kennel.

There was a nice cree that ran right through the center of the campground. In places it was like a large "lagoon". It was deep enough for the boys to wade in and not be afraid. In other places it was pretty deep. I saw a man that was 6 feet tall and it was deeper than him. The creek made a nice peaceful sound. There were cradads or crawfish that the boys and my hubby cought for fun. Lots of schools of tiny fish.

We had a good time here. We tried out some new ways of cooking. We made a
buddy burner
and a vagabond stove and cooked soup on it for an apitizer. We made ice cream the first night. The boys had no idea of what we were making. When we open the bag and there was real ice cream, the boys were so excited!

We also tried out meals in foil right on the coals of the camp fire. I made chicken and rice. We even had hot bisquets and corn on the cob, all cooked on the campfire! It was all so yummy! Steven ate 3 entire cobs of corn, 2 servings of chicken and rice and several bisquits!

I am sure that we will go back to Dragoon Creek, maybe even in a couple of weeks!
