Spring 2001
Our 1 Year Anniversary!
On April 26th 2000, the largest, most comprehensive
and complete web site for our favorite actor Steven
Culp went on line. "Totally Steven!" made its debut
on the net with the largest photo Gallery, most
complete filmography, newsletters, Webb quotes/episode
guide, contests and more.
What started 5 years ago with a few "Webbies" grew into
a group of fans of all ages and from all parts of the
world. This last year has been a fun filled year and
everyone at Totally Steven wants to thank the wonderful,
supportive Webbies that have contributed to making Totally
Steven! a success. We could not have done it without your
support, input and wonderful feedback.
Thanks go to JAG's creator/producer Donald Bellisario for
introducing as to "Clayton Webb" and Steven Culp.
Most of all, we thank Mr. Steven Culp for the endless hours of entertainment
he has provided his fans through his work and for his dedication to the fans.
We were touched to received this note from Mr. Culp:

work, and thanks to all the Webbies who have been so kind and supportive!
My best to all the Webbies"

Thank YOU Mr. Culp!

Steven Culp's Next Projects
Steven will star with Clea DuVall ("Girl, Interrupted")
in HBO/Cinemax's "How to Make a Monster". Production for
this movie was scheduled to start the week of March 19th.
This movie marks the fourth installment of "Creature
Features," a series of five films inspired by Samuel Z.
Arkoff's 1950s sci-fi monster classics.
"Monster" is about a company man (Culp) who hires three
ex-cons-turned-computer programmers to create a computer
game, "Evilution", which centers on an evil monster. The
men each have one month to come up with the scariest monster
for the game, with the winner receiving $1 million. In their
quest to win, the men load everything that is evil into the
computer, causing it to overload, which brings the monster
to life.
Special effects guru Stan Winston, Colleen Camp and Lou Arkoff
are producing the series, each of which is budgeted in the $3
million range. Arkoff, Steve Eccelsine, Robyn Rosenfeld and
Buddy Epstein are executive producing the series, and Winston
is creating its special effects creatures.
"The Palace Thief"
Steven Culp, has joined the cast of "The Palace Thief",
staring Kevin Kline. The film, produced by Beacon Productions
for Universal, is based on Ethan Canin's short story. The
screenplay was written by Neil Tolkin. The movie centers
around a prep school teacher (Kline) and his relationship with
a troubled student.
The historical Emma Willard School will be used as the setting
of this film, directed by Michael Hoffman. After he finishes
his work on the HBO movie, Mr. Culp will be going to New York
to work on this film.

"Thirteen Days" around the world.
As many of you know Steven was in Berlin,
Germany for the "Berlin Film Festival"
He attended the Festival with co-star
Bruce Greenwood and director Roger Donaldson.
The festival's site offered an audio/video
clip of the interview with the panel formed
by Steven, BG and RD. You can see it at:
Berlin Festival
We received reports that the movie opened #1
in Taiwan and remained on the top ten list
for numerous weeks in Japan. At this time the fan who has seen the
movie the most times is Junko from Japan, with a whopping 11 times!
She will receive a "Thirteen Days" script from "Totally Steven".
During the second week of April, "Thirteen Days" producers Kevin Costner,
chairman of Beacon Pictures Armyan Bernstein and Peter Almond went to
Cuba, to share the movie with audiences there. After that the movie will
head over to Moscow.
The trip was approved and licensed by the U.S. government as a cultural
exchange program, according to Beacon Pictures. With the assistance of
The Cuban film society, Instituto Cubano del Arte e Industria Cinematograficos,
public screenings of the film were organized as well as discussions between the
producers and audiences.
In Russia the event was hosted by the Carnegie Endowment for International
Peace.
What Nikita Kreshnev's son had to say
Fans in Australia don't have much longer to wait for the movie, which
opens down under in May.
In Italy, the movie is currently in the #2 spot.
In England, the movie opened on March 16th, to great reviews. You can
read a review in England's "Empire" Magazine. Also in the magazine
is an interview with Steven and Bruce. You can read that interview HERE

Photos taken at the Hollywood premier. Thanks to Barb for sharing them with us.
The video and DVD for "Thirteen Days" will be released on July 10th, 2001
"Thirteen Days" will mark the initial release of a brand
new DVD brand named Infinifilm. The release will mark the
10th anniversary of New Line Home Video, which is being
renamed New Line Home Entertainment.
The DVD's that New Line will sell under the Infinifilm brand
will offer "breadth of content". This means it will have
features in addition to those currently found on DVD's.
Releases from Infinifilm will provide supplemental material
that can be accessed through "pop-up" navigation menus that
appear as the disc is playing.
The suggested retail price for the Infinifilm brand release will be $26.98.
"Valor" last appearance of Webb this season?
When we started putting together this
newsletter, we were a little down thinking
that on March 13th, we got what seemed to be
our last look at Clayton Webb for this season.
We later heard from Mr. Culp that they were
trying to bring Webb back for one more episode
this season. On April 17th. We got confirmation
that he will be back for the episode "Mutiny",
which will air on May 15th!.
This season of JAG marks the most Webbie season
ever! Webbies got to enjoy Webb on 7 wonderful
nights! (5 episodes- two of them 2 part episodes)
Webbies were thrilled by this, and can only hope to get to see Webb again
next season!
Thank you to Mr. Bellisario and all TPTB at JAG! And of course to Mr. Culp
for keeping his webbies VERY happy with his efforts and talent.
Harm: "Well, hey. Whatever you do, don't endanger any of *your* people."
Webb: "Harm, I didn't put her out there because I didn't like her haircut."
What did the fans have to say about his latest appearance?
"Can't wait to see Webb tomorrow night! Would rather
see more of him than Brumby!"
"We found out earlier this season that Webb's title is
The Deputy Director of Operations - Counter Intelligence
Center. Got to love the guy. And can't wait to see him
tomorrow. Unfortunately I believe it's the last
we'll see of Webb this season
"And my 2 cents worth on Tuesday nights episode. I pretty
much agree with everyone else. Webb is ALWAYS terrific, and
a treat! Although I must admit I am partial to Webb in darker
suits! Webb and AJ together is great!"
"The man has some sexy lips and I have to say too some nice
hands...he kept playing with the ring on his finger... :)"
"Webb and Harm were at each other in a way they haven't been in a while.
Kind of liked that. I like an edge to their relationship. "Here's the
mastermind himself, why don't you ask him." Ouch! And after poor Webb
had obviously been up the whole night putting everybody within two hundred
miles on alert - including kindergarten children!"
"I found myself watching the episode just to see Webb. I was getting highly
ticked in the middle when they weren't showing him. Anyway, it was worth the
wait. I loved his cream suit and I wouldn't care if he wore it for 10 days. :)
But yes, yes, yes, we need more character development!"
"Valor" The Review.
By Cheryl Russell
Webbies first see Webb in this episode in the
Admiral's office. After an failed attempt at
bombing an American ship in the Persian Gulf,
it's revealed that one of the people on board
the terrorists' boat is an American Marine Sgt.
who had been listed as MIA. The question that
needs answered is why was she on board that
boat? Harm and Mac are off to the Gulf to find
out.
Next time we see Webb is in the Admiral's office; they are
watching a news conference. The Admiral asks Webb a question,
who in typical Webb fashion, doesn't answer. Actually, he acts
like he never heard the question to begin with; he asks the
Admiral a question of his own. The second time the Admiral asks
Webb a question, Webb doesn't really answer that one either. He
gives an answer that doesn't tell the Admiral anything at all.
We next see Webb, that is Webb isn't it?, as he interrupts the
hearing re: Sgt. Steele and her actions with the terrorist group.
It certainly sounds like Webb. Looks like Webb...sort of. Where's
the familiar dark suit and tie? Not here! He's wearing the same
color as Mac and Harm! He looks like them! Only with a tie and
long sleeves! Is this a good thing or a bad thing? That question
will have to wait until later. Webb wants to talk to the Sgt.;
she may have information that he needs.
While he is asking the Sgt. questions, you get the
feeling he's being typical Webb. He wants something, but
refuses to come out and say what that something is. Once
it becomes clear that he wants her to return to the
terrorists to become an informant, Harm is not happy. At all. Especially since the reason
she's needed is because the local guy has disappeared. Sgt. Steele agrees to cooperate
and return to the terrorists. However, I think she is a little like Webb herself.
She will return to the terrorists, but she will do things on her terms, not his. What those
terms are are known only to her. She isn't forthcoming with what she intends to do.
Review Continues
Webb's "Valor" Suit"
There was a lot of talk on line about the choice of
Webb's light color suit in the episode "Valor".
Some fans did not see what the big deal was, others
had strong reactions to it.
Webbies, used to seeing their mysterious spy in dark
color suits for the last 5 seasons, were surprised by
the cream color suit that Webb was wearing. Some pointed
out that he had wore light colors before in "Boomerang,"
but for some reason this suit struck a cord with some fans.
The consensus was that most people like Webb no matter
what he is wearing. But why wasn't he wearing his usual color?
Well, Webb was in a hot place (Like he was in "Boomerang") and
fashion would suggest that light colors be worn in that type of
weather. We all know that Webb is a fashionable, high class,
elegant man, so it makes sense he was wearing "cream" instead.
We also noticed that Harmon Rabb was dressed in light colors.
Fans also noticed that Webb was wearing the same
suit the next day. Based on the conversation the
next morning, it was obvious that Webb had been up
all night, working non-stop to get more information
about the terrorits next attack, so who had time to
change? (Notice also that both Harm and Mac were in
the same clothes as well)
Oh but that was not enough for inquiring Webbie Minds.
We wanted to know more about who decides what Webb
wears and how the process works. We contacted the
Audience Liason at JAG Productions and this was her response:
"In the beginning, there is the "word". The script is written and distributed.
Department heads read it (in the case of wardrobe, Paul Dafelmair). Paul looks
at two factors: the place (in the case of "Valor," the desert), and the time of
year. (Summer, winter?) "Boomerang" was filmed at a beach; "Valor" was set in
Bahrain; hence, lighter colors, lighter clothing.
After the script is distributed and digested, immediately prior to filming, there
is a Production Meeting with the director, writer/producer, heads of all departments
involved, chaired by Don Bellisario. The script is read word for word. Everyone
comments on their particular facet of production; DPB says yay or nay.
In the script for "Retreat, Hell," author Stephen Zito was very specific in the
fantasy scenes, describing the "look" for Mac in each sequence. Since this was
an important plot point, Stephen and Paul discussed it together.
(Paul Defelmair is known to shop in Saks and Neiman's.)
Oh yes, the budget factor. Every department, including Wardrobe, operates under
a price ceiling. Wardrobe departments shop and rent clothes too. Sometimes they
buy designer clothes (Like Mac's Missoni top in "Retreat, Hell") but buy on
sale.
As for clothing bought in bulk amounts, such as uniforms and trench coats,
these are undoubtedly purchased directly from the manufacturer, at a wholesale
price. It would not be possible for an individual to do this. Also, each studio
(it's own Wardrobe Department) is in the business of renting clothes used in
previous productions. There are large retailers to buy/rent from and resale
boutiques, who buy vintage clothing for resale.
As for Webb's suit in "Valor", it came from Academy Award Career Apparel in
downtown L.A."
Now all you Webbies know where to get that special gift for your 'significant
other'
After 5 seasons of Webb, the Webbies pick their favorite
Fans vote for their favorite Webb and Steven moments. The poll was
posted on the list (you can also find it on the 'Webbie Fun Page")
and these are the results of the fans top picks:
Favorite Steven Culp Role: Robert Kennedy ("Thirteen Days")
Favorite Webb Episode: Soul Searching
Favorite Webb quote: "Give your head a shake"
How do these results compare to last years?
Favorite episode was: "Webb Of Lies".
Favorite quote was: "On the right side"
Favorite SC Role was: "Murder She Wrote"
(Of course this was before "Thirteen Days" came out)
You can always vote for your favorite! Polls are reset at the end of every season...
that is "Webb Season" (Polls were re-set after "Valor" aired)
"Thirteen Days" nominated for the Harry Award.
"Thirteen Days" was one of the 5 movies nominated
for this years's History Channel Harry Award. Along
with "Gladiator", "The Patriot", "U-571" and "Men
of Honor", "Thirteen Days" was featured in a one hour
show that pointed out the accurate historical portrayal
of the events as seen though Hollywood's eyes as well
as the mistakes.
"Thirteen Days" was reviewed positively by the three
experts. They praised the movie and pointed out that
the actors: "They deserved to be nominated"
The award is voted by viewers and not the critics, so it was
no surprise that the least historically accurate movie, "The
Patriot", won. The reaction of the experts on the show said
it all... complete silence. One of the critics said it best:
"I think they voted for Mel Gibson", not the historical
value of the movie.
"Thirteen Days" came in #3 after "Gladiator". The second most historically accurate
movie, according to the experts, "Men of Honor" ended in last place. So much for a
'Movie History Award"
Unique Award for "Thirteen Days"
As reported by Variety Magazine, The Film &
Television Action Committee, a two-year-old
coalition of below-the-line industry employees
fighting runaway production, picked "Thirteen
Days" as one of the recipients for it's first
Gold Star awards. Why? For choosing to shoot
in the United States rather than overseas.
The two other recipients of this award are:
"The Patriot" and "Pollock"
The ISHBU award
The fans said it, the critics said it,
Bruce Greenwood and Steven Culp should
have received nominations for the Academy
Award for their great portrayal of the
Kennedy Brothers. It didn't happen, but
both of them are still the favorites for
many fans. Since we can't give them the
Oscar they so well deserved, one of our
Webbies came up with a funny award to
present to both of them.
The ISHBU (It Should Have Been You) award (an engraved plaque)
was sent to Mr. Culp. Mr. Greenwood received a 'nomination certificate".
It was a funny way for fans to let them know how much we appreciated and
enjoyed their work in the movie.
This is what Mr. Culp had to say about it:
"How delightful! My wife and I both got a big smile out of the award"
That was our purpose, so another "Webbie Mission" accomplished! Thanks to Cheryl
who had the plaque made and came up with the award. Like we say around here: "if
you want something done right, get a Webbie to do it".
Our Anniversary Contest
For our one year anniversary we have put together a special contest, instead of
one winner, we will have up to four winners! The contest includes trivia on SC
and his character on JAG, Clayton Webb.
The prizes include a "Thirteen Days" script, cap, and other goodies. Our grand
prize includes a JAG script autographed by Steven Culp.
To play, check out our Contest page
We congratulate the winner of our last contest, Diana M. She got the most
correct answers to our 'Non-Webb quotes" contest. It was a difficult one
and nobody got all of them right. Thanks to all who participated.
Webbie Wish List
On slow days, the Webbies tend to get a little crazy on the Webb/mailing list.
The latest "Webbiness Attack" came about after webbies started discussing what
we would like to see Webb in. We called it the "Webbies Wish List". These
are some of the ideas that fans came up with: Webbie Wish List
As many of you already know, the American Red
Cross is the charity of choice for Steven Culp
Fans. We have on several occasions asked fans
to donate, assist and/or volunteer to the Red Cross.
On our First Anniversary of "Totally Steven", we wanted to talk a little about
what is the Red Cross, what they do and encourage everyone to help/assist/donate
to this wonderful organization.
The idea for the Red Cross came from Henry Dunant, a Swiss man, after witnessing
a battle in Solferino, Italy, in 1859. Dunant observed as 40,000 men lost their
life or lay near death without any medical attention. Dunant organized the local
people to assist, feed and comfort the wounded soldiers. Shortly after he
called for the creation of a national relief society that would assist those
wounded during war time. In October 1863, The International Red Cross was
created in Geneva, Switzerland, to provide nonpartisan, neutral care to the
wounded and sick in times of war.
The American Red Cross, which was obviously molded after the International Red
Cross, was first established by Clara Barton. Even though she did not originate
the Red Cross idea, she was the first person to establish a "Red Cross Society"
in America on May 21, 1881.
The idea of the American Red Cross was extended from the original International
Red Cross, as the organization was created to serve during peace and in war.
Especially during times of National disaster. At the present time, the Red
Cross is committed to aide and provide relief to victims of disaster, nationwide
and globally.
The organization also provides health and safety training (including but not
limited to CPR and First Aid classes). Among other things, they provide
emergency social services to U.S. military members and their families. The
Red Cross is also responsible for half of the nation's blood supply and blood
products.
The Red Cross is America's most trusted charity, and it needs the support of all
of us to continue to succeed. You can assist The Red Cross by donating your
time. If you wish to volunteer you should contact your local American Red
Cross chapter for programs in your local community. (International disaster
relief workers are drawn from a pool of paid and volunteer staff with extensive
prior experience)
You can also assist the Red Cross by donating money (The American Red Cross
spends 90 cents of every dollar on programs and services to help those in need)
or your time (The ratio of American Red Cross volunteers to paid staff is 35 to 1)
You can make donations at your local chapter or send a check to:
American Red Cross
P.O. Box 37243
Washington, DC 20013.
Or call 1-800-HELP-NOW (1-800-435-7669) to charge your credit card. And don't
forget that you can also help by donating blood, as it is always in demand.
For more information on how you can help visit the Official Red Cross Web Site.
