JAGFanFest 2002
The Steven Culp Fan Connection was proud to
have been a part of the JAGFanFest 2002.
After many long months of preparations and
anticipation we were rewarded with a very
successful fest and with the special thrill
of having our very own Steven Culp attend the
Fest.
The weekend of September 13-14th was filled
with fun, excitement and some surprises. But
nothing could compare to seeing the fans and
our wonderful Steven Culp interact together
at our "Totally Steven" booth on Saturday
night.
This special JAGFanFest newsletter will recap
some of the activities of the weekend, the big
winners and the fun we all had at this JAG fun
filled event. We hope to share with you some of
the fun webbies had and give you a peek at how
everything went when the man behind the trench
coat, joined us for some Webbie fun.

Opening Night.
The preparations for the JAGFanFest 2002 started
several months ago, and after weeks of long hours
cutting, pasting, printing, typing and all the
other stuff that goes into getting ready for an
event like this, we were ready to have some fun!
Friday night we had everything set up at our "SC
Fan Connection" booth. We had several goodies
available for the fans to take. FanFest pencils,
Webbie pencils, pins, bookmarks, pocket calendars,
key rings, stickers and our new "Webbie Booklet".
We also had two raffles available for the fans.
One raffle was for a set of 8X10 photos of Harm,
Mac, AJ, Webb, Gunny, Tiner, Bud, Harriet, H&M,
Harm & AJ and a JAG insignia/pin.
The other raffle was for a gift package, which
included 12 scripts, among them, one autographed
by Steven Culp, one by Donald Bellisario and one
by Dana Coen. The prize also included a JAG hat,
JAG cup, CIA hat and the movie "Thirteen Days."
Fans seemed to like what we had to offer and kept
us busy all night selling tickets.
Like the other booths set up at the fest (which included
the JMJ Admiration Society, The Official Peter Murnik
Fan Club, Mac on JAG, the Randy Vasquez Fan Club, Bud
Anonymous and more) we had a trivia game available for
fans to play. Their prize for getting the correct answers?
A JAG trading Card. The cards that were designed by one of
the Fest organizers, featured MANY of the JAG characters and
fans had a fun time collecting and trading them.
Friday night we were honored to have Harriet Margolis, JAG's Audience Liaison,
present for a Q&A. Actress Ann-Marie Johnson (Bobbie Lathan), Jade Carter
(Sergie) and Michael Bellisario (Mikey Roberts) were also present to sign
autographs, have their photos taken with fans and participate in a Q&A panel.
Melissa Sitkoff, the casting director was also there to share some laughs and
stories with the fans.
One of the highlights of Friday night, were Jade and Ann-Marie who had the fans
laughing out loud most of the time during the Q&A. They are both VERY funny and
everyone had a great time with their jokes. Another great moment was when
Michael Bellisario agreed to sing happy birthday to one of the fest organizers
who was having a birthday. Nancy P. was smiling from ear to ear as Michael sang
to her, and the fans loved the moment.
And what can we say about Harriet who entertained the fans with her boundless
knowledge and anecdotes of JAG and other Bellisario shows. She was a pleasure
to listen to.
And before we knew it Friday night had ended.
But it was only the beginning of a great weekend for JAG fans.......
Saturday Morning- On the Set.
Just how wonderful are TPTB at JAG? I think their generosity and dedication to
their fans was obvious as they invited the JAGFanFest to visit the set of JAG on
Saturday morning. But it wasn't just a 'set tour'; it was more of a family get
together with lots of surprises.
As fans got off their buses a lunch and a raffle ticket greeted them. As if
being welcomed to the set by Producers Charles Johnson, David Bellisario and
Dana Coen wasn't enough, David James Elliott and Catherine Bell had recorded a
special welcome message for us. There on a big screen set up inside one of the
sets, we watched as our wonderful and very funny stars of JAG greeted us to the
set. Shortly after, a very funny welcome message by the big man himself Donald
Bellisario, was projected on the big screen. Right away they all made us feel
welcomed and proud to be fans of a show. TPTB opened their doors to us and we
cannot imagine many other shows treating their fans this well. We are a very
lucky group of fans and the team at JAG productions a very classy group of people!
During lunch we participated in a trivia game put together by the JAG staff.
Prizes were given to 10 lucky winners (very nice prizes!!) . The raffle with
MANY winners followed. From JAG 100th Episode throws, to Swiss watches with
the JAG logo, to "JAG staff, cast and crew" license plate holders, Trisha
Yearwood CD's and much more. Many of the fans left with wonderful memorabilia
from their favorite show.
After a Q&A with Charles, David, Dana and stunt coordinator Diamond Fansworth,
the fans toured the various set of JAG. The most exciting part? Based on the
fans reactions, it had to be Harm's apartment. It was difficult to drag them
out of his bedroom! :)
After a wonderful afternoon on the set, fans got ready to board their buses.
As if all TPTB had given us had not been enough, each fan was given a JAG hat
embroiled in the back with "JAGFanFest 2002". Yet another priceless momento
of a wonderful, incredible day.
A big thank you to Erica McIntosh, Mr. Johnson's assistant, who was attentive to
the fans needs at all times, and who helped make our experience on the set a
memorable one.
With everyone back on the buses, fans went back to the Airtel Plaza Hotel to
continue with the Fest's activities. It was Saturday night that Webbies had
been waiting for all weekend long. Tonight would be a webbie dream for many, an
unforgettable webbie experience was about to happen......
Fans in line to meet Steven Culp at our booth
With Steven at the Fest.
By Sandra Martinez
It is difficult to put into words the excitement
of Saturday night! This was after all the night
when our very own Steven Culp made an appearance
at the Fest. The night before the word had gone
around among fans that "Webb" would be at the
fest on Saturday night. It was fun to see the
reactions and expressions on the faces of the
fans as we shared the news with them. Fans from
near by to as far as Germany were there ready to
get an autograph and a photo with JAG's favorite
spy.
Carol and I waited in the lobby of the hotel for
Steven to arrive. We were to greet him and escort
him to the ballroom where everything was set up.
The first thing I noticed was how good he looked.
Dressed in blue jeans, a white shirt and dark
sunglasses, Steven looked WONDERFUL! As webbies
from the Webb list will confirm, one of the wishes
we have had for years has been to see Webb in jeans
on JAG. Well in person it was even better!
Yes, this look is great on him!
Always the perfect gentleman and down to earth person he is, we shook hands
and talked briefly about we had done so far at the Fest and made our way to
the ballroom. Once we got there, he looked around the booth, the display and
we had our picture taken with him. Several of the organizers took advantage
of this moment to come up for autographs and photos before the doors opened.
Steven also signed several items for us at Totally Steven and for the auction
that was to take place later that night.
When the doors opened it was a bit startling to see most of the fans run to our
booth. I don't know what was going through Steven's mind, but I immediately
though "Oh wow!" :)
Steven stayed for about two hours signing autographs and having his picture taken
with fans. There was always a line at his table and we even ran out of photos for
him to sign!
Personally I enjoyed seeing the reaction from the fans. Some could not hide the
excitement, the smiles were contagious. I was thrilled to hear the fans comment
on how nice, friendly and handsome Steven is. At one point one fan approached me
and whispered how "gorgeous he looks." I had to smile as I told her: "That's what
Webbies have been saying for years."
A couple of funny moments took place when fans talked to Steven during the autograph
section. At one time one of our die hard Webbies informed Steven that many fans loved
his hair. He looked surprised and could not quite believe it. (for the record, Webbies
love Steven's hair, eyes, voice, talent, personaltiy and much more!) Another funny
moment was when a young girl came up and told him she was his number one fan. I told
myself: *EXCUSE ME? You're number #1? I don't think so! ROTLFO*. Steven, knowing so
many fans there felt that way, had the perfect reply. He smiled, said thanks and said
that his wife was his number one fan. (Yes, we all melted at the sweet reply.) Unable
to resist myself I quickly added that made the young lady #3. (Needless to say I am the
proud holder of the #2 position! LOL)
When it came time for Steven to leave (he had to leave early due to other commitments)
we presented him with a small gift as a token of our appreciation, and also gave him a
goodie bag with the different items from our booth. (Earlier Steven had also been
presented with a goodie bag from the Fest organizers)
I cannot begin to express how wonderful it was to
have Steven at the Fest. He was the same wonderful,
friendly, class act that he has been for years.
Friendly, easy going, and a real pleasure to talk
with. The fans at the Fest loved him and the Webbies
there, well we were all in heaven. It was great to see
others discover how great our dear Steven is. Thank you
to Steven for taking the time to go to the Fest, and
meeting with so many of the fans there. His presence
at the Fest made all the work, and headaches worth it.
It was a reminder of how proud we can be to be fans of
such a great actor and person.
Thank you Steven!
Saturday Night
By Carol Preflatish
Saturday night of the JAGFanFest was filled
with fun and surprises. Along with Steven,
we also had the honor of having Peter Murnik
(Clark Palmer) and Trevor Goddard (Mic Brumby)
attending.
Both Peter and Trevor signed autographs and
posed for photos with the fans. Trevor spent
a lot of time talking and joking with the
fans and, dare I say, maybe even flirting a
bit. Peter, on the other hand, had more serious
thoughts when he found out a fan owned a car
just like his. The next thing we knew, Peter
had gone out to the parking lot with the fan
to check out the car. Luckily, he didn’t want
to test drive it because it was time for the
charity auction to begin with Peter and Trevor
as auctioneers.
(The largest bid was for a visit to the set for $4,000)
Everyone was very generous with their bids during
the auction and the Webbies were right there with
them. The hot item for the night for the Webbies
was a Clayton Webb sketch from the JAG episode
"Tribunal." Several people started bidding on it
right from the start. However, it didn’t take long
for everyone to realize that this item was going to
go home with a Webbie. They just didn’t know which
Webbie. Soon it was a bidding war between Webbies
Carol and Laurel.
With all the Webbies sitting together, only one
empty chair separated Carol and Laurel as the bids
flew back and forth between them. Starting at $10,
the bid soon reached $100, $200, $300, then $400
before slowing down to a few cents with each bid.
Finally, the pace picked up before Carol conceded
the race and Laurel was the proud owner of the
sketch for $501.
Even though these two die-hard Webbies battled fast
and furious, they ended the bidding war still friends,
and even hugged each other after Peter yelled, “Sold!”
And the winners are...
We want to congratulate the winners of our raffles! We had the honor of Steven
drawing the winners for all three of our raffles, and he had his picture taken
with the winners.
With the on-line raffle we collected a total of $405.00 for the American Red
Cross! Thank you Webbies!!
Every Webbie who donated $10 for the raffle will receive a goodie bag with the
items we had available at the fest and a JAG-Webb script.
The winner of our on-line raffle is Marlene Gleason!
"Totally Steven" collected a total of $400.00 from the raffles at the Fest. The
winners of our raffles at the fest were:
Vickie Cargill from California and Jana Johnston from Holliston, Texas.
Congratulations to both!
We also want to congratulate Lauren Alden who was the winner of the "Tribunal" sketch
at the auction with a bid of $501.00!!!
The "Thirteen Days" package which included the movie poster (donated by Steven) and a
script autographed by Steven, went for $90.00
Another item donated by a Webbie, a beautiful Navy throw, went for $85.00.
Webbies should be proud! Items donated by TS and/or inspired by our favorite spy,
collected over $600.00!!
We want to thank Harriet Margolis who was instrumental in getting the Webb sketch
for the auction. Harriet was also kind enough to provide us with a copy of the sketch.
We will give the sketch away in a special contest in the near future.
In Appreciation
There is no way that the JAGFanFest would have taken place this year without
the dedication, generosity and support of many people.
We want to thank Harriet Margolis, Donald Bellisario and Charles Johnson for
everything they did in support of the fest. We could not have done it without
their support. TPTB proved once again what an incredible group of people they
are and how wonderful they are with the fans.
Thanks also to all our fellow Fest organizers. It was fun working with such a
fun and crazy group of people!
To our wonderful SC fans: SDI, AngelaW, NancyB, CI Creations, MargaritaL. Your
input, creativeness, donations, work and support were out of this world. You
made our work easier and helped us get rid of so many headaches! We are
indebted to you!
To the many SC fans who took part in the on line raffle, THANK you for helping
to make a difference and supporting the Red Cross. Your generosity is truly
appreciated.
To the SC fans at the fest and our "list family," thank you for your on going
support, the words of encouragement and all the fun and laughs.
Most of all a HUGE THANK YOU to the fantastic man who inspires us all. Mr. Culp
is the motivation and it is his talent and down to earth personality that drives
us at "Totally Steven" to continue our work at the Fan Connection. We are unable
to put into words our gratitude for the time he took out of his busy schedule to
attend the Fest. His willingness to share a part of him with the fans, his kindness
towards the fans never ceases to amaze us. THANK you Mr. Culp for making it so
easy to be a fan of yours!
