"It seems to me that Kip wrote something to the effect that DPB
was not "happy" with the last 3 part arc. Perhaps the best way to
view the whole thing, besides wait and see, is that it may be an
aberration of Webb."
"Worth more than two cents of my money. The "stunt" no longer makes
Webb an enigma, which was the largest portion of his appeal and interest
for me. Webb is no longer that much of a mystery any more. And I find
it hard to forgive the writers for making Webb make *SO* many errors of
judgment in this Paraguayan operation--something I too found out of
character for Webb. The results of that "stunt" would, realistically,
effectively make him useless in his heretofore primary role as a CIA field
operative; hence, I have no reason to be much interested in him anymore"
"I loved last nights show and hope that Mac and Webb do get together and I
also hope that Mac and Harm get together, but can't have it both ways right?
I can't wait to see more of Webb on Jag and see how they develop their
relationships"
"Sorry, that stunt [Webb tapping Mac as his pregnant wife in his Paraguayan
sting operation] just lost my interest in Webb as a Character. Speaking of
which it totally was out of character for Webb."
"I adored Webb for who and what he was and I just worry where they'll take
his character now. He looked so sappy, needy and yes, pathetic, seemingly
begging for Mac's love. They're either going to have to do some fancy footwork
so he can regain some dignity, claim a concussion so he doesn't remember a
thing about all of that or what he did, or they're going to keep on in this
direction. Frankly, I love him as the stoic, yet kind-hearted in a hidden
sort of way, SuperSpook. If they're just going to turn him into goo at Mac's
feet--yes, please...let the man die a noble death, drape his coffin with a
flag and let us remember fondly our beloved SuperSpook!"
"Mr.Webb was definitely worth the WAIT. I can't wait to see next weeks
episode. Steven is an incredible actor"
"I agree, the last 3 episodes were so out of character for Webb. I wonder
how he'll be able to recover from it"
"Webb was tortured! Of course he looked pathetic! He'd been hooked up to
a car battery and electrocuted! There was probably little left of his
psyche and perhaps his feelings for Mac were all he had to hold on to.
That's not a weak character. That's focusing on what you have to focus
on to get you through alive -- and being man enough to risk it all,
everything you held on to, by stating it"
"I think he was being thruthfull about his feelings towards Mac, but if
he wasn't that beaten up, the Webb we all love would not have said all
those things or behave like that."
"I don't consider myself a tried-and-true Webbie, though I really like
the character, and think he adds an extra level of interest to any ep
he appears in (and talk about character growth -- he's come a long way
from the stereotype we saw in season two)"
"I have to admit -- I was surprised when the shipper made that "I hope
Webb dies" comment came through a few days ago -- surprised at the comment
and surprised that more Webbies didn't raise a commotion"
"Some of the reasons for the lack of Webbie commotion, is that for many
webbies Webb "died" the minute the trilogy took place. Some webbies will
agree that a Webb dying with honor would have been better than what we
saw. Also some webbies will no longer be watching so it is of little
concern what other JAG fans say about the character we loved."
"I was a die-hard webbie, one of the originals, but I will no longer be
watching the show for Webb, I will watch the show when SC is on, becasue
I am a fan of the actor, but not the character, not after the way it was
destroyed at the end of the season."
"I know I haven't seen much more of the acting skills of SC so I absolutely
loved seeing that more relaxed side and that smile of his that he finally
revealed melted me ...... but I also see how it is said that it was a stretch
to be one way one week, then another the next"
"Recently there have been a lot of calls from shippers for Webb to die which
I see as quite atrocious. Webb is a great character. What did he do that makes
him deserve to die in some shipper's eyes? He kissed Mac -- something that
Webb-Mac shippers have hoped for for a very long time."
"Well season 8 especilly the cliffhanger were hand down awful. The whole
Webb mockery was unneccesary. I was embarrassed for him"
"SC was brilliant, but the last two eps did leave a lot to be desired. IMHO"
"It's the whole storyline. LG&M was a good ep and showed a good work
relationship. But, Webb has never been close with Mac or worked with
her as much as he has Harm. After LG&M, the inconsistency began. All
of a sudden he's an emotional nitwit. Then the finale.YUCK!! Out of
the blue we are to believe he wanted Mac to be there "with him" GAG!"
he needs her" GAG! He all of a sudden loves her when he hasn't seen her
or had any interation with her for over a yr, and has never shown an
interest in 7 yrs.GAG!This is totally unbelievable and just another
"soapish" storyline to throw at us."
"This is one Webb arc I PRAY they didnt go through with.I was ashame for
Webb"
"I am quite interested in a Webb-Mac pairing. It seems to go against the
grain of general opinion, but there was something between the two I
really liked. I believe Webb genuinely respects Mac and has treated her
as such -- always. They were a hoot and sexy and just plain fun to watch.
I am not concerned that it popped up out of the blue, because I think
there's been an undercurrent there and anyway -- JAG storylines over
the past few years seem to run every which way anyway."
"Well Im one heartbroken Webb/SC fan. The scripts of Jag were halfway
and soggy. Overall a sournote. Webb and Mac pair up an welcome blast of
nonsense soap. Im way too attached to Harm and Mac already. The show is
skulking away at its morose worse"
"Webb episodes are always IMHO really good, for example "Webb of Lies"
and The "Incountry"/ "Tribunal" ones. How about "Embasy," where Webb
sends H&M in to do his dirty work, and then when they are being held
hostage, Webb wants to run off to a DOD meeting, then AJ sets him
straight. Love Webb no matter what"
"I thought this last episode was the best of the season with Steven
showing a part of his acting I've never seen."
"If they had shown us signs that he loved her in the past it would be
ok, suddenly doing it and the stupid way they did it is out of character.
If Webb shows his love by sending the woman on a mission that is
dangerous and can get her kill, and he even felt bad about the mission,
hell I'd hate to see what he does to the women he dislikes! LOL"
"He went from being a good operative to being a complete brainless
dummy. But then tthis seems to be the way JAG operates, destroy all
the characters along the way. First Mac and then the others followed.
Our latest victim is Webb."
"If I had my wish, Webb and Mac would hook up instead of Mac and Harm.
It probably won't happen though. This is kind of scary for me since I
used to be in the Mac/Harm camp. Steven Culp is a great actor!"
"If they turn Webb in to a poetry spouting idiot next season. Kill him
please! But anyway...was about to stop watching the episode just
because of them torturing webb so badly....will definately stop watching
the series if they kill him off... Why I care more about Gunny and Webb
than the main characters I don't know. I would not mind Mac ending up
with Webb, and Harm ending up with Catherine"
"I want it to be made perfectly clear that the only thing I don't like
about the new Webb is that he doesn't that wonderful lock of hair to fall
forward onto his forehand LOL... though he does look quite stunning with his
new hair style bringing out his eyes"
"Very tragic to witness our beloved characters suffer relentless character
beatings and Im sorry to say that even a hardcore Webbie like me still find
my romantic loyalties to Harm and Mac, pairing them up with Gale and Webb is
nauseating"
"Wouldn't a better title have been "A Mangled Webb"?"
"Clayton's mom said that her son takes care of the women he loves. We
subsequently find out that Clayton does, in fact, have strong feelings
for Mac. Is this how he "takes care" of those he loves -- by inviting
them into a dangerous situation from which they have a very good chance
of never returning? Good thing he doesn't dislike her"
"Webb always looks good to me, and I think I could do a Webb/Mac thang,
inspite of me loving the Harm and Mac duo I was surprised of the change in
emotions of Mac towards webb. And if you love somebody, do you drag them
through the jungles of Paraguay to hunt terrorists???"
"At least Webb calls her Sarah and he is a VAST improvement over Brumby"
"When have Mac and Webb spent enough time together for him to be so in
love with her????????"
"Was this all very "Webb like"?? Don't know--I've never seen him tortured
within an inch of his life before. He's been taught to keep his feeling
in check so he can do his job. Lord knows what goes through people's minds
when they think they're going to die"
"..but I swear to God the writers are reading JAG fanfic. Where else
would they get the idea of having Webb claim love for Sarah like some
lovesick schoolboy? Next thing, Harm's going to get a long lost evil
twin brother from France--cheesy accent and all--to show up and make
trouble"
"The ONLY thing that made this episode worth watching was SC. He was
incredible in this episode. It was good to see him stretch his acting
skills. If I ever watch this episode again it will be just to watch him
and how good he was. He was great from start to end."
"I so liked the fact Webb & Mac (when they started) were nothing more
than friendly adversaries, who had a mutual respect for the other, & a
mutual trust for the other. TPTB then turn Webb into someone not so
professional (I wanted you with me blah blah) & of course the deathbed
confession. I got more ticked at the fact that Webb BLEW their cover"
"You make Webb another conquest for Mac? You make Webb another man dying
after revealing he cares for her? Webb as a pawn? Not good But I'm afraid
it will be Webb the pawn, Webb the sacficial lamb in the M/H mess, and its
too bad"
"I did like the Mac/Webb in Lawyers, Guns, etc., where they were professional
and respected each other, not the Webb confessing (or trying to) feelings for
Mac. That does both Mac & Webb and injustice, while they play the game and
Harm sits back and is his usual emotionally constipated self"
"I have watched JAG over the years and have seen just about every episode.
If Mac has a fling with Webb that just about does it for me. The scenes with
Clay though just aobut had me in tears. I've never been a big Webb fan, however
last season and this season, he's grown on me, and seeing him hurt so bad was hard".
"I really enmjoyed this episode, witht the exception of the whole Clay/Mac love
thing. Ok, I know they've known each other for awhile, but the whole Clay
loving Mac just seemed alittle out of the blue. Webb's declaration (Even
though I TOLD you he had the hots for Mac) pretty much came out of left field.
No buld up to that point - Webb wants to marry Mac. Give me a break"
"And will someone tell me when was the last time Webb even TALKED to Mac prior
to asking her to go with him? I mean --- just when was it that he fell for her?
And, will one of the guys please chime in here ---- once you realize that you
are in love with some woman ... do you then arrange for her to accompany you
on a trip where she could easily never come back from except in a body bag?"
"SC was wonderful at acting injured. Many other actors could take lesson
from him! I almost believed he was injured. Unlike Gunny, who right after
taking a shot to the gut-near the same place he got shot last time, was
running around like it was a hangnail! Webb is really growing on me & GO M/W!"
"We are merely seeing ANOTHER SIDE of Webb which we haven't seen before, a
vunerable side. He has self-doubt at times, gets a little goo-goo eyed over
a pretty woman (Mac), acts a little silly, and engages in boyish rivalry (with
Harm). I think this all quite endearing and VERY HUMAN. While being very
sophisticated, intelligent, and professional, he is also a kid at heart"
"Which brings me to the out-of-character-thing. Webb's declaration of love
(sorry...declaration of NEED) for Mac was quite sudden. TPTB should have
hinted a little bit more in the previous episodes. It almost seems like they
are writing the storyline on a day-to-day basis"
"I can definitely see Webb and Mac together. I think they would both tame each
other. If TPTB decide to end the Webb/Mac relationship, I just hope HE'S the
one to break it off and NOT her. We don't want our precious Webb's heart broken!!"
"My favorite parts: When Mac asked Webb if he needed anything and he had to
use a still-trembling hand to sit the bed up. It's nice to see a little
realism in shows. Too often a character will be badly injured one week only
to bounce back completely the next. Watching him whisper in Mac's ear was
funny too. It was so like Webb to tweak Harm like that! Harm (and us) have
no idea what was said, only that it made Mac giggle. Too funny! (at least for me)"
"The agency gave Webb his job back - even clearing the dust off his desk.
YAY! That means he's back in the US, at least for a while."
"First, I am not disappointed in the "new" Webb - I think that he has grown as
a person, as do we all (hopefully), from a career oriented agency man into a
man who realizes that he doesn't want to spend the rest of his life alone. I
don't consider this weak at all - just human - and I don't think he would ever
compromise his country for anything or anyone. Besides, I really like seeing
that smile every now & again, don't ya'll?"
"But he did. He compromised his mission at least TWICE. The Webb we loved would
never do that, especially for a woman. He said it once in the episode with
Palmer, he would not give something up for his girlfriend. But now suddenly
its ok to risk missiles hitting the USA because he "needs" Mac. SHAME on Webb
and SHAME on TPTB for doing this to the character and his fans"
"They make him look like he is wipped. That he is no long the man that he used
to be. He would have never allowed all that info out to just get in bed with
Mac. It is an insult to all sc fans to see the ficitonal charactiar being
turned into some sap"
"Webb is but one character which Mr. Culp has done an excellent job in
portraying, no matter what the writers do to Webb's character."
"What was with Webb taunting and tormenting Harm with comments making it seem
like more happened between him and Mac than actually did. That is not Webb's
style. The man who has spent 7+ seasons with the "It's Classified and Need to
Know" attitude" is suddenly a chatty cathy?? In love or not - that was very out
of character."
"If Mac is falling for Webb - something that will make me hurl. He is way too
good for her, why not show some emotion when he was leaving."
"As for Steven Culp - he once again showed why he is just delicious. The man
can act, he looks amazing and even with a crappy plot and script still makes my
heart go thump thump thump"
"Overall, I think we have a case for Intentional Infliction of Emotional
Distress against TPTB"
"Finally, about SC. I love all those scenes you have all pointed out, and I am
not going to repeat all that. But has anyone noticed his hand? The camera
focused on his hand at breakfast when his hand was shaking too much to hold a
knife. What a beautiful hand! He has the fingers of a pianist!"
"Webb and Mac have been to the end and back(didn't intend to rhyme that!) they
had to become close, and they were always friends. I think having them become
close, "Best" friends would be the logical choice. Yes, he's always had
"feelings" for her, but she never really expressed them in return. I don't
think they would work in a romantic relationship for many reasons, but I think
they could be the closest of friends with that little hint of longing"
"SC is the master of the Unspoken Line! I like the way he nods and blinks his
eyes after revealing his name for the new mother (ah, so sweet!). After the
woman calls her new son "Clay-ton," we get that look of surprise and emotion
from SC that reveals just a slight smile. The brevity of the smile is just
right. Webb's in pain and in a distrustful state of mind, but is truly touched
at having a namesake."
"I do find that the old Webb is not entirely eradicated. Note his marvelous
comebacks (of which there were many, [snip] plus SC's marvelous delivery, had
me laughing while I was cringing about how roughly they treated his poor,
battered body. (And yes, he recovered fast, but so did Gunny from the gunshot
wound. and yes, it is TV-it's all gotta fit in"
"I have been a Webb/Mac fan for a long time so the last few episodes have been
a dream come true!!!! I LOVE the new Webb. I think he has more character now
than he used to"
"SC is a very talented actor. His facial expressions speak more than his words
due at times.
"I have never really been opposed to the idea of Mac and Webb. I've even
written a fic or two that teased around the idea. But now that I'm seeing
it on-screen, I'm not certain I like it"
"Naming the baby after him. Do you get the idea that Clay never imagined
anybody would want to name their child after him? Did you see/hear the
way he said his own name when he realized why she wanted to know?"
"I keep hoping that when Webb recovers (he darn well better!!!!!!!!),
that he'll have his professional sense get the better of his romantic slip
and immediately distance himself from any liason with Mac, disavowing his
feelings in his best sardonic style!"
"I have to admitt I absolutely LOVED SC showing off those amazing acting
skills"
"SC looked gooooood. Glad to see him in something besides a tie and white shirt."
"Webb was more like the old Webb we've come to know tonight, not like the guy
we saw last week who seemed to be questioning his own abilities. What else can
I saw but it's always good to see Webb in an episode"
"Wow...did Webbie kick butt tonight or what? It was a joy to see him showing his true skills and colors!!"
"Did anyone catch what the Paraguay Station Chief, Edward said to Clayton?
"You come complete with a reputation Webb. Ruthless, efficient......but
you are no longer the youngest under secretary in the company.. Be still my
heart. I am so happy to see the Webb that I always thought was there.
Handling the machine gun w/ ease and expertise"
"OMG, I almost forgot the scene were Clay has the SUV stop so Sara can
"go relieve herself", then he kills the driver. Mac wasn't pleased with that,
but I felt it was coming & neccessary"
"It was a perfect scene, I saw it coming the minute they showed him in the car.
The way he handled himself and the scene right after with Mac was perfect.
Tough to watch for some people I am sure, but it was maybe one of the few
'real' things in this storyline."
"I am glad that they are finally showing that Webb is good at what he does and
not a bumbling fool. I have not liked how the JAG staff always blames him for
everything. Most of the time they treat him like he is a fool and only use him
for info. Yes I know he is not always truthful and does use them too. Still
love him! LOL However, I love that he is full of contradictions. His character
is being written very well. If they kill him off, I will stop watching the
show."
"I can't stand what they have done to Webb. I am done with the character and I
am done with the show. The storyline was STUPID. I have never seen writing
this bad. Webb has become everything he once would have criticized. If Webb
had an agent like him working for him, he would get rid of him. Just wait
it will get worse I am sure of it. He will probably go back to the Agency like
if he had done no wrong, when in reality he messed up the entire mission and
had to be saved by Harm. The ohly reedeaming aspect of this trilogy is the
actor who protrays Webb. He is excellent. Too bad they have destroyed his
character beyond recognition. Mr. Culp, RUN!! Go to another show soon!"
"OMG, we now have a kid in Paraguay named Clayton! I love that!! Great idea!"
"Webb in the hospital bed -- I wanted to punch him -- that was rude!!! Dirtier
than usual. Obviously they were both going at it verbally - but Webb won that
round for sure. And Mac obviously doesn't care that much about Harm's feelings
or she wouldn't have "carried" on with the giggling. Please!"
"Where has Webb gone!!! The new Webb thinks its ok to declassify info just to
have a woman like him? What an embarrassment to the Agency! He is sent to
Paraguay because of giving info to JAG, and now he gets his job back THANKS to
Harm and he goes and does the same thing again, releasing classified info, and
declassifying it just to improve his changes of a roll in the hay with Mac???
The man deserves to be sent back to Paraguay!!!"
"For goodness sake Webb, you can do better than Mac! She is an adulterer who is
guilty of fraternization and who will deperately cling to anyone. PLEASE MAN!!
Webb you are marter and better than that!
"I think Webb and Mac are good together. They are both screwed up and maybe
they can straighten each other out. LOL"
"I forced myself to watch last night because of SC, but I wish I had not made
that mistake. :( "
"What kind of operative has Webb turned into??????? So very sad :("
"Maybe I read the scene wrong where Webb gives Mac the file, but to me it
seemed Webb had the file declassified in order to make points with her.
If that is the case, I'm disappointed in Webb. I just never thought he'd be
the type to do something like that to win over a woman."
"While I would love to see him with Mac -- at least for a little while and
certainly parting as friends if it were to come to parting, I think it could
be an interesting story. I think we really have seen a lot of growth in Webb,
which makes him more lovable (in Mac's words from Webb of Lies)
every time
he appears"
"I think I recall reading where SC had said that it's better that we don't
learn too much about Webb and he's better left to be a mystery to a degree.
I forget the exact quote, but I believe that it was basically something
like that. And after watching last night's episode, I have to agree with him.
The whole declassification of the file thing to impress Mac just got to me."
"EVERYONE is acting out of character. Nothing new in Jag but Im holding
out hope that all these crazy puzzle will come into place as the season
progresses.Im a Webbie close to quitting but will give Jag another chance
then we shall see"
"Webb and Mac look hot together. THey have so much chemistry. But then I bet
he has chemistry with every living thing! He is that good!"
"Webb (OMG) - two jammies shows in a row. Can my heart stand the strain??? He's
feeling better, but even in the twilight of possible death, he never lost his
sense of humor! "The desk clerk says you're two-timing me", (Harm's resignation)
WOW!, "Company picnics", "Don't land the plane on the building!" LOVE IT!
Great writing!"
"SC's portrayal is awe-inspiring. Great business trying to control the
froggiejerk of his poor hand on the bed control (Does it Fold??) and
reaching with his LEFT hand to shake Harm's at the end. I personally thought
Catherine was sitting WAY to close to Our Man, she should have been over on
the other side with Harm so our dearest wouldn't have to strain that BEAUTIFUL
NECK!!!!"
"There are places to go with Webb this year as well, with his own epiphany. It
may look like he's getting back in his stride as well in a "dusted office",
but Mac's look at the end because she was "late to the party" shows that there
will be some definite Richter movement in the offing."
"I agree it is good to have a character grow. But there are good ways and bad
ways to do this. Webb's weakness and self doubts in "Soul Searching"? Perfect
character development, good writing, good insight. The trilogy mess? The
season opener? Complete character assesination with not redeeming qualities at
all. I feel sorry for the Webbies"
"Webb is dead and gone. I am sorry he did not die as a hero but rather that his
character was killed by turning him into a weak, pathetic, agency betraying,
bad spy, sorry excuse for a man character. I mourn his passing from the
great character he was, to the awful character he has become. I will miss him
always"
"The only memorable scenes from the "Mangle Webb" episodes and the ridiculous
season opener, are those where SC appeared. No, not because of Webb. (it hurts
to see the 'new and improved' shameful Webb) But because of SC's acting. He was
magnificent. He proved that he is indeed the best actor to ever work on JAG.
He can act circles around everyone else in that show. His torture, his pain. I
can not imagine anybody else on JAG making it all so credible. The man can
act, and that is the only thing we can all be thankful for at this point in
time. Steven Culp had a great opporutnity to show us all what an outstanding
actor he is. Yes, it is too bad it was at the cost of Webb's transiction into
the soap opera world of JAG. I am disappointed in the writers, the producers
and everyoen who had a hand in these episodes, with the exception of Mr. Culp.
He dealt with what he was given with top-noth acting and made it a memorable
experience for this former JAG fan. I do not care if Webb ever shows up in
JAG again, I hope not. But I will count the minutes until the next time I get
to enjoy Mr. Culp'sacting skills"
