Tidbits of Information

There were dozens on people on the set at one time, everyone doing a specific job. We counted approximately 94 people at one point. But, not everyone is working at once, of course. Several crew/staff members are needed for specifc jobs (such as hair and make up) and then they spend a lot of time sitting around waiting and waiting... We had the opportunity to talk to a few. It was interesting and fun. We had an opportunity to talk to one of the hair stylists on the set. Like everyone else she was very nice and friendly. She gave us a tour of the trailer where the stars get their make up and hair done. It is an impressive set up with space to take care of 5-6 cast members simultaneously. At one point the lady asked me who my favorite star was, I quickly replied it was Steven Culp. She smiled and said, "Oh, I just cut his hair today, if I would've of known I would of saved you a lock of his hair." (Ah, thank you ma'am, but I still have some sanity left! No locks of hair, thank you. LOL) We all laughed, she was a very funny character. She explained to us that they take pictures of the stars to keep on file, so that every day when they show up they can compare and fix their hair the same way as it was the day before. (that way the hair looks the same when filming the same scene on different days.) We made a joke about how it probably didn't take too much time to do JMJ's hair. She quickly said that was not the case, as she has to shave his head twice a week (or two times per episode) The hair stylist must stay on the set at all times as long as the stars are there. It is a long day of standing around and waiting. They get there before the cast and leave after they go home. The make-up crew is also on the set at all times. During the morning shoot, a make up-assistant continuously came up to CB to re-touch her lips over and over again. During the afternoon shoot, we did not see them as often. I was surprised at how little make up the guys (Steven, Rex and John) had on in comparison to other actors I have seen in the past. But then again, not all guys are as good looking as our JAG men! While we sat outside set 2, we noticed a man changing the backs of the director chairs. The back of the chairs get changed according to what star is coming or going from the set. The JAG logo is on one side and the star's name on the other. The man was replacing some old backs with brand new ones. After he finished changing and folding several of them, he came up to us. He asked if we wanted a souvenir and we obviously said yes! He then offered us the two chair backs that he had replaced and was going to discard. Talk about being at the right place at the right time! Becky got DJE's and I got JMJ's. It was a nice gesture and we were very thankful to him for thinking about us. It was yet another example of the kindness found on the set of JAG. Oh yes, then there is the guy with the water hose, who spends the entire time keeping the floor wet for the outside scenes... and on the hot California days, that is a full time job! LOL.
