Back to Your heart (Lindsay's perspective)
"Linds! Phone call for you" my roomate, Alison called from the bustling hallway of our dorm at Boston University. I looked up from the textbook I had been staring at for the past two hours to see her sticking our portable phone through the door. Groaning, I shut the book and hopped up from my bed. "I really wish you wouldn't take the phone with you while flirting with the guys down the hall" I mumbled, grabbing the phone and clicking the 'talk' button. "I might miss a call from Ryan or Matt, or maybe even Br-" "All right, All right" I said with a smile, turning to the phone. "Hello?" "Interesting roomate you have there," said a deep voice with a hint of a southern accent. "Yeah, she's a piece of work" I laughed, "How are ya Kev?" "Good, and how's the college life going?" he asked. "Very good, summer vacation starts in a few days." I said, positioning myself on the floor so I could prop my head up on the side of my bed. "Any plans?" he asked, obvious that he was hinting around to something. "No…why, any suggestions?" I said with a grin. "As a matter of fact, yes" he started, "what would you say if I told you I was going to fly you out to Orlando so you could see BSB in concert?"My face fell. "Oh Kev…it was a nice offer, but-" "Come on Linds, you knew you would have to face him someday. Besides, who could possibly give up the chance to hear the wonderfully talented Backstreet Boys live in concert?" he teased me. "Kev, you have such a way with words" I joked, "but seriously, I don't think I should go" "But AJ and I planned it! He's flying Ash out and she's really excited. You have to come!" he said stubbornly, on the edge of whining. "Ash is coming?" I repeated. "Yeah and I know you guys haven't seen her in a couple of months." Kev said slyly. "Fine, I'll come" I relented, then quipped "besides, who could give up the chance to see the 'wonderfully talented' Backstreet Boys live in concert?" "Funny" he said dryly, "All right, so I'll book the flight and call you back with the details." "Sounds good, I'll talk to you then, bye Kev!" I said excitedly, "And thanks" "No problem" he said, "bye Linds"******************************************************************************It was that fateful day that had led me to the airport to see Brian Littrell for the first time in almost 3 years.****************************************************************************** "We'll be landing in Orlando in approximately 10 minutes," the pilot said cheerfully, interrupting my thoughts, "The weather is beautiful, thank you for flying Southwest."I sighed and stuffed my magazines and discman into my backpack, so I would be ready to get off the plane as quickly as possible. When the plane landed, I plunged into the crowd of people in line to get off and was able to get off fairly quickly. I looked around the airport, in search for Kevin. "Lindsay!" said a voice from behind me. "Kev!" I shrieked, running into his arms.He laughed and hugged me. "All right, let's go find your bags and then I'll drive you to the hotel."We managed to find my luggage and then hopped into his car. "Hey Kev?" I asked suddenly, after we had driven for a good 15 minutes, "What does Brian think about me coming?" "I haven't told him yet" he replied, staring straight ahead, refusing to meet my glance. "Oh…" I trailed off, trying to make sense of what he was saying. The look in his eyes didn't match up with the words he was saying, but I shrugged it off. I decided to drop it for now, besides we had pulled up to the hotel. Kevin took my luggage and brought it up to my room while I checked myself in. Out of the corner of my eye, I could see Nick and what's his name (Howie?) walk to the elevator. I ducked my head down while I took the key that the lady was handing me. "Thanks" I said gratefully, heading for a different elevator.I met up with Kevin outside my room. "All right, me and the guys are staying on the third floor. I'm in room 314, if you need me. Ash is staying two doors down from you" Kevin instructed me, "she should be getting here in a couple of hours." "Thanks Kevy" I said, giving him another hug. "I really appreciate this." "No problem, I'll stop by with your tickets and backstage passes later, ok?" he asked. "Yup, I think I'm going to take a short nap before I start getting ready for the concert." I said, holding back a yawn. "Ok, see you later" he waved, walking down to hall to the elevator.I took my luggage into the room and laid down on the bed with my headphones on. I listened to BSB as Brian's voice relaxed me into a deep sleep.Hours later, I woke in a panic after realizing there were only two more hours until the concert started. I rushed into the shower and then stood in front of my suitcase, debating what to wear. I was soon distracted by a beeping noise coming from the phone. There was a message from Ash. "Hey Linds, It's Ash at about 5:00. The concert starts in 3 hours, so when you are finished getting ready come over to my room, 216, and we'll head over to the arena, ok? Oh yeah, Kev brought me the tickets and passes since you were still sleeping. All right, see you then! Bye!"I hung up the phone and went back to the suitcase. After a few minutes of tossing around clothes, I finally pulled on khaki capri pants and a white tank top with a three-quarter black cardigan sweater. Slipping into black platform sandals, I put on a silver necklace and bracelet. I applied some makeup and then pulled my hair into a messy bun. Finally satisfied, I grabbed my room key and strode over to Ashley's room. "Hey, are you as nervous as I am?" she asked, after opening the door and giving me a hug. "Oh yeah!" I grinned, "you look great!" "So do you! Ok, are you ready? Or should we…you know…stall….so that we aren't pressured to go backstage?!?" she asked tentatively. I laughed. "Well that's tempting, Ash… but we really should get going" I said, after checking my watch. We dashed into the elevator and then climbed into a limo that was waiting for us, courtesy of Kevin and AJ. We stayed silent through the limo ride, both of us anticipating what may come this evening. I was thinking of the past 2 years. Ash had stayed a hardcore Backstreet fan, collecting all the memorabilia and taping all the interviews, concerts and talk shows. I had tried to stay away from all of that, I didn't want to be reminded of all the pain that had come with that band. Kevin was my only reminder of Brian, besides the occasional TRL sighting. I was shaken out of my thoughts when the driver announced that we had arrived. Ash and I looked at each other nervously and got out of the car. We handed our tickets to the worker at the door. "You're all set ladies, allow us to seat you" he said politely, leading us to our front row seats. I hardly paid attention to the opening act, eagerly waiting for the guys to come out. When they did, I noticed that Brian flew right over me in their first song. The concert was so good, they really were talented. Brian and Nick hardly acknowledged us, all I got was the occasional wave from Kevin and thrust from AJ. When the concert ended, I was sort of disappointed, I don't know why I had expected something from him. Ash and I gathered our stuff together and were about to leave when music came back on. I looked at her, confused. I always thought that "I Want It That Way" was the last song. "This is a special song that is dedicated to two lucky ladies" AJ announced, looking at Ash and I. I immediately recognized the music as "Back to Your Heart." Kevin stepped forward and helped me onto the stage and motioned for me to sit in one of the two chairs that were placed on the stage. I looked to Ashley, who was sitting next to me, and we exchanged bewildered glances. I didn't have much time to think because the guys started singing and Brian came forward to kneel down next to me. "I don't know how it go so crazy, but I'll do anything to set things right. Cause your love is so amazing, baby you're the best thing in my life" he sang gently, his ocean blue eyes looking deep into mine. He put his microphone down softly and lifted my chin to look him in the eyes. "Lindsay, I am so sorry baby. I know I was wrong, but I took you for granted. I didn't realize how much you meant to me…how much you are a part of me. I love you so much, I never knew I could feel this way. You mean everything to me and I'll do anything I can to make things right again. I only hope you can…"He grabbed the mike again and grinned, then sang, "Give me one more chance to give my love to you. Cause no one on this earth, loves you like I do. Tell me, the words to say, the road to take, to find a way back to your heart. What can I do to get to you and find a way back to your heart."He placed the microphone down again and kneeled right in front of me. Everything and everyone around me slowly faded away and all that I was aware of was Brian and this moment."What I'm trying to say Linds, is…will you marry me?" he asked, his eyes sparkling and a smile playing onto his face. I looked back at him with excitement in my eyes, never being more sure of anything in my life.
