Reader discussion statements: 50-300 Words. The current topic:
"Shape changing in fairy tales": Shape changing in fairy tales is usually a closeted affair. The usual motive sequence involves a strange being welcomed into the family. The stranger has a "secret", a tabu. Sooner or later the true nature is discovered as the shape changer has an inherent need to change occasionally. After discovery the shape changer flees, usually to the dismay of the family which has benefited to a large extent from his or her presence. We ask: Why does the shape changer flee? How can we translate "shape changing, is it possible to consider it as a metaphor for being gay or transgender?
