Here's my favourite movies of all time. If you ain't seen any of them then you need to!
Amelie
The story of a girl called Amelie was originally titled "Le Fableaux Destin d'Amelie Poulain" (the fabulous destiny of Amelie Poulain). Amelie has trouble relating to other people and often imagines herself in her own little fantasy world. This film is about how after beginning a personal crusade to help other people she realises that she needs a bit of help herself.....

The greatest film ever made. Even though it is essentially a feel-good film, it uses so many different ideas bith in its presentation and its story and has so much originality that you cannot help but see it as something more. If this film doesn't move you at some point then you have a cold heart indeed. Even if you do not find this film moving you'll be too busy lauging to care.

He Loves Me, He Loves Me Not
(A La Folie... Pas Du Tout!)

Audrey Tautou (who played Amelie) now strikes again as Angelique. To begin with it seems like Tautou is almost reprising the same role as she had in Amelie, but it is soon clear that Angelique has a dark side. Prepare to meet the Anti-Amelie!

Leon
Do I have an obsession with the French or what? First a french film, then a film directed by Luc Besson (french) and starring Jean Reno (french). The film tells of a hitman who decides to take in a girl who has been orphaned and then discovers the consequences.

Boasting possibly Natalie Portman's only outstanding performance ever and with Gary Oldman on top form with perfectly delivered lines which will stick in the mind for years, this is a masterpiece. Not to say that Gary Oldman steals all the best lines. When you have seen the film all the way through Jean Reno's slow stuttering of the words "This is for... Matilda!" will forever link you to one of the greatest cinematic experiences you have ever seen. If you don't like violence, stay clear. But if you have a more open mind then you should be in for a treat!

The Fifth Element

Although rather quirky it is more a rollercoaster of originality than a serious piece of cinema. Just sit down and enjoy the ride! It must be said though that this is a romantic comedy as well as an action film, which isn't really a good thing....

Twelve Monkeys
Well I do have the poster as the background! This is a quality film that, much like all Terry Gilliam's other films, asks about the nature of sanity. The film begins with a setting in the future in which the human race lives underground. James Cole (Bruce Willis) is a prisoner and is chosen to go back in time and collect information to help those in his present time. Once he comes to the world before humans had to live underground he is instantly told that he is crazy and begins to doubt his origins himself.

When watched for a second time you are able to notice without the confusion of the plot to deal with, just how amazing the performances of the actors involved are. Bruce Willis and Brad Pitt both prove in this film that they are not overrated. If you are confused easily then you will not enjoy this film. However, those not out for a simple action blockbuster will find a great piece of cinema here.

The Fisher King

Terry Gilliam gets Robin Williams greatest performance ever. However, the film while excellent in every other respect, can become rather mushy in places. If you want a good love story that doesn't make you want to vomit this is the one. But if you want a good Terry Gilliam film you are better off with Twelve Monkeys. Excellent performances and a clever story, Fisher King is still a Gilliam classic!
