Multitech VOIP
Voice/Fax over IP Gateways
Multi-Tech¡¦s family of Voice over IP gateways bridge the voice network to
the data network providing a viable alternative to traditional public
switched telephone networks. Companies can realize significant cost savings
and other business productivity benefits by leveraging a single IP network
to support both voice and data.
Today, there are two different approaches to Voice over IP and
Multitech RAS and VOIP Distributor. One approach
preserves a company¡¦s infrastructure investment by IP-enabling existing
PBXs along with remote office telephony equipment. The other approach builds
the VOIP network from scratch by utilizing a pure distributed IP telephony
environment. Multi-Tech offers a solution that supports either path.
For the company looking for an IP migration path, the MultiVOIP Voice/Fax
over IP gateway is an ideal fit. The MultiVOIP gateway connects directly to
a company¡¦s existing PBX, key telephone system, fax machine, or analog
phones and extends voice and PBX features and functionality out to remote
locations over a WAN. It can seamlessly tie together dissimilar proprietary
PBX systems and provide networking capabilities to key telephone systems
that previously weren¡¦t available.
For the company ready to transform over to pure distributed IP telephony,
the MultiVOIP SS survivable SIP gateway and server provides a viable
solution for small branch offices of 1-20 phones/employees. It provides the
office with reliable, mission-critical phone connectivity and local office
presence by delivering WAN/LAN fail-over survivability, PSTN trunking for
local inbound/outbound calls, as well as ATA IP adapter capabilities for
analog endpoints (phones/fax machines). The MultiVOIP AV survivable H.323
gateway/gatekeeper is designed specifically for Avaya Communication Manager
distributed IP environments and provides small branch offices with local
office survivability, PSTN trunking as well as ATA IP adapter capabilities
of analog endpoints (phones/fax machines).
Our Fax Server Solution is a complete, highly economical, easy-to-use
network fax server solution. It allows you to receive faxes as e-mails
wherever you are and send faxes from any application that can print. Simply
hook up a DID trunk, an Ethernet port and assign your client's e-mail
addresses to the DID numbers.
The standalone solution will not tax precious server resources and the cost
to implement is much less than that of other software based solutions. In
addition, it does not require expensive intelligent fax modem boards, Fax
Server or a dedicated PC. Now, virtually any size business can start taking
advantage of the security, convenience and cost savings associated with
network fax servers.

MultiVOIP™ Gateway Applications. The MultiVOIP™ gateway is specifically
targeted at businesses looking to reduce toll charges between frequently
called sites. It integrates seamlessly into your data network and operates
alongside existing PBXs, or other phone equipment to simply extend voice
capabilities to remote locations. The MultiVOIP™ gateway is designed to help
you maximize investments you've already made in your data and voice network
infrastructure.
Hong Kong Multi Tech: MultiVOIP VOIP Gateway

Toll Bypass Long Distance Calling. For multi-location businesses,
inter-office calling typically represents 25-40% of a company's total long
distance bill. To bypass these charges, each office installs and configures
a MultiVOIP™ gateway on their network and connects it to their existing
phone equipment to place calls, send faxes, or make modem connections to the
other offices on the VOIP network.
Off-net Calling. Telecommuters or customers off the IP network can make free
long distance calls by dialing into a local MultiVOIP™ gateway and placing
toll-free calls to any location on the VOIP network. You can even have a
MultiVOIP™ gateway at a remote site dial a local phone number for a free
person-to-person long distance call.
Off-premise Voice Extensions. The MultiVOIP™ gateway extends the reach of a
company's PBX into remote office/SOHO locations without installing another
PBX. Now, anyone can place calls to the remote office by simply dialing an
extension number. With support for H.450 supplementary services, the
MultiVOIP™ gateway provides for call transfer, call forwarding, call hold,
call waiting and name identification.
IP-enable Fax Machines. With T.38 fax compatibility it promises to keep your
"legacy" fax equipment productive for as long as you need it. Ideal for
IP-enabling fax machines in both large enterprise networks or small branch
office/SOHO locations.
Wireless Voice Extensions. To extend a PBX to a building across the street,
or to a location with difficult access, utilize a wireless or satellite
bridge to connect the two networks. Now, you have voice and data
connectivity without having to lay cables or pay monthly charges for
dedicated lines.
Replace Expensive Tie Lines. A corporation that utilizes Tie lines to
connect branch office PBXs to the corporate PBX can now use the company's
IP-based Wide Area Network to complete the call.
Easy Integration. With the MultiVOIP™ gateway, you avoid the hassle and
expense of replacing your existing routers, WAN connections or phone system
required by other VOIP solutions. The MultiVOIP™ gateway simply plugs into
your Ethernet network. Neither your phone service or network is placed at
risk. Minimum requirements: Ethernet network, WAN connection, IP addresses.
Save Thousands of Dollars Each Month. The MultiVOIP™ gateway can save your
company substantial amounts in long distance charges. Even if your company
uses one of the most inexpensive calling plans, a voice over IP network can
quickly return your investment and begin paying you back.
Interoperability. The MultiVOIP™ gateway utilizes the H.323 and SIP
protocols to provide complete interoperability with other Internet telephony
solutions. The inbound IP call protocol is automatically detected and the
voice channel is dynamically configured to match. The outbound IP call
protocol is configured with the phone number allowing you the flexibility to
call H.323 or SIP devices from the same port. In addition, the MultiVOIP™
gateway also supports T.38 real-time fax relay for interoperability among
other VOIP equipment.
PSTN Fail-over. PSTN fail-over allows the MultiVOIP™ gateway to
automatically route calls over the PSTN network when the IP network is
congested or completely down. This feature heightens reliability and
augments QoS when conditions threaten to undermine voice quality. Utilizing
user definable controls, the MultiVOIP™ gateway continually checks if the
LAN/WAN is threatened by packet loss or latency, or to see if the network is
completely down. If it detects a problem, the MultiVOIP™ gateway switches to
"survivability mode" transparently routing all calls over PSTN lines
connected to the MultiVOIP™ gateway. The MultiVOIP™ gateway continues to
monitor the connection and automatically switches back to the LAN/WAN once
the conditions improve.
Advanced Speech Technologies. The MultiVOIP™ gateway supports the
Differentiated Services (DiffServ) Quality of Service (QoS) protocol which
sets priorities for voice and fax traffic and allows transparent delivery.
DiffServ helps move time-sensitive voice traffic across even low-bandwidth
WAN connections, like 56K and ISDN, with the priority and quality required
by voice. Other features such as adaptive echo cancellation, forward error
correction, bad frame interpolation and dynamic jitter buffers, further
enhance voice quality.
Complete Support for Multiple Telephony Interfaces. For maximum investment
protection, the MultiVOIP™ gateway accommodates changing communication needs
by providing a programmable FXS/FXO/DID and an E&M interface for each port.
This allows the MultiVOIP™ gateway to connect directly to a phone, fax
machine, key phone system or PBX. It automatically detects whether the
incoming call is a voice or fax call.
Back View of MVP210
Bandwidth Management. Bandwidth is used only when someone is speaking. The
silence suppression/Voice Activity Detection (VAD) feature is an option that
frees unused call bandwidth for data traffic. This is significant, since
callers are usually silent for 60 percent of the call. When using silence
suppression, the MultiVOIP™ gateway also offers Comfort Noise Generation
(CNG) at the receiving end so the user knows the line has not dropped. In
addition, the MultiVOIP™ gateway supports voice compression standards like
G.729 (8:1) and G.723 (10:1). These standards help minimize the bandwidth
required for voice. G.723, for instance, is the maximum compression rate and
requires only 5.3K bps (plus an added 7-8K bps for IP overhead). Even at
maximum compression, your VOIP solution will still provide toll-quality
voice.
Management. The MultiVOIP™ gateway is easily managed locally using a
windows-based software application or remotely by the central office with a
web browser or SNMP. We also include our own SNMP management software called
MultiVOIP™Manager which provides central site configuration, management and
call monitoring for all MultiVOIP™ gateways on the network. It utilizes a
Windows interface that makes it easy to view events like usage tracking,
live use reporting, call history, and voice quality statistics. In addition,
MultiVOIP™Manager eases administration by automatically
e-mailing call logs based on volume or time.
No User Training. The MultiVOIP™ gateway provides single stage dialing by
utilizing a Uniform Dialing Plan that is consistent with the E.164 (PSTN)
standard numbering plan. This includes automatic appending and stripping of
digits to dialed numbers to ensure that users will not require additional
training to make VOIP calls. In fact, placing calls with the MultiVOIP™
gateway is like using your existing phone system.
Supplementary Services. The MultiVOIP™ gateway supports H.450 supplementary
services to provide for call transfer, call forwarding, call hold, call
waiting, and name identification. It also supports Q.SIG, an inter-PBX
signaling protocol, for networking PBX supplementary services in a multi- or
univendor environment. In addition, the MultiVOIP™ gateway supports SIP
extensions providing call forward and call transfer capabilities.
Avaya Small Office Media Gateway Solution. Avaya and Multi-Tech have
partnered together to provide an affordable small office survivable media
gateway solution that delivers the features of Avaya's Communication Manager
software to the branch offices of large corporations. The MultiVOIP™
gateway, with integrated gatekeeper, cost-effectively extends the call
features and networking benefits of an Avaya Media Server to small branch
offices. The MultiVOIP™ gateway also renders local office survivability, in
the case of a LAN or WAN failure, by providing local, reliable PSTN
trunking. A cost effective single-port gateway is available to turn your
analog phones or fax machines into Avaya IP devices that can serve the needs
of enterprise networks, small office environments and single user locations.
You Be the Judge. Industry experts have recognized the MultiVOIP™ gateway
for its clarity. But don't take their word for it, or ours. You be the
judge! Make a FREE VOIP call over the Internet by dialing 1-877-TRYVOIP.
Hear for yourself how clear the connection can be.

Highlights
Direct Inward Dial (DID). The FaxFinder fax server's routing capability is a
function of DID which allows multiple phone numbers to be placed on a single
phone line. Every network user is assigned an individual fax phone number. The
last 3 or 4 digits of that number correspond to the individual's fax
extension. Senders simply dial the individual's fax telephone number (no
special procedures are required). The FaxFinder fax server ensures the fax is
delivered directly to their e-mail box.
Faxes Routed Directly to the Desktop. To route faxes directly to the desktop,
simply plug the FaxFinder fax server into a LAN, hook up a DID trunk, and
assign the user's e-mail addresses to the DID numbers. A fax is then
automatically received through the DID line, converted to a TIFF file and
delivered to the user over a LAN or WAN. Once received, users can view, print
or forward the fax as an e-mail to another e-mail user.
Fax Security. With the FaxFinder fax server, a small business can afford to
provide the CEO, President, CFO, COO, Human Resources and others with virtual
private fax lines. Because faxes are delivered directly to the user's e-mail
box, it offers a high degree of security for both the sender and the
recipient.
Fax Completes Unified Messaging. Some PBX solutions deliver voice mail to a
user's e-mail box. Many, however, don't offer a fax solution. The FaxFinder
fax server fills this gap and completes the unified messaging solution by
delivering faxes to one inbox. In addition, by taking headquarters fax
functionality and pushing it out to your mobile sales force and remote
locations, you enable access to information from any location.
Sending Faxes. The FaxFinder fax server client software allows the user to
compose a fax from any application that utilizes a printer. To send, the user
simply "prints" the document to the software, selects a cover page (or creates
their own) and enters a destination telephone number for the fax. The client
software forwards the fax to the fax server, and it gets sent out via the PBX.
The user can build one fax of multiple documents from multiple applications,
as well as schedule faxes to be sent at a later time.
Fax Capacity. The FaxFinder fax server utilizes a 750K buffer to receive
faxes. It can receive about 15 pages of text-based faxes (typically 50K per
page) before it splits the fax into a second e-mail. If graphic images are
included, the number of pages received per e-mail is reduced based on the size
and type of graphic. The 2-port model provides two lines for higher volume fax
traffic as well as simultaneous inbound/outbound faxing.
Configuration and Management. The FaxFinder fax server web interface provides
for easy set-up and configuration. In addition, it provides the ability to
view the current status of fax lines as well as a history of past fax
activity. E-mails inform the user of a failed transmission. Also included is
Windows-based management software that allows the administrator to easily

Fax Completes Unified Messaging. Some PBX solutions deliver voice mail to a
user's e-mail box. Many, however, don't offer a fax solution. The FaxFinder
fax server fills this gap and completes the unified messaging solution by
delivering faxes to one inbox. In addition, by taking headquarters fax
functionality and pushing it out to your mobile sales force and remote
locations, you enable access to information from any location.
Fax to Email Server
Highlights
Faxes Routed Directly to the Desktop. Many PBX's and key telephone systems use
Direct Inward Dialing (DID), Digital DID, or Dialed Number Identification
Service (DNIS) provided by a T1 or E1 for direct dialing to internal
extensions. Unused numbers from these lines can be used for fax numbers,
providing employees with their own individual fax number. When a call is
received, the PBX converts the number into DTMF tones and sends it to the fax
server. The fax server answers the call, receives the fax, converts it to a
TIFF file, attaches it to an e-mail, and sends it to the correct recipient.
Once received, users can view, print or forward the fax as an e-mail to
another e-mail user.
Fax to Email Server
Fax Security. With the FaxFinder fax server, a small business can afford to
provide the CEO, President, CFO, COO, Human Resources and others with virtual
private fax lines. Because faxes are delivered directly to the user's e-mail
box, it offers a high degree of security for both the sender and the
recipient.
Fax To Email Server
Sending Faxes. The FaxFinder fax server client software allows the user to
compose a fax from any application that utilizes a printer. To send, the user
simply "prints" the document to the software, selects a cover page (or creates
their own) and enters a destination telephone number for the fax. The user can
build one fax of multiple documents from multiple applications, as well as
schedule faxes to be sent at a later time.

Fax To Email Server
The FaxFinder™ fax server is a turnkey desktop solution that connects to an
analog port(s) of a PBX capable of DID to DTMF conversion. It converts faxes
to TIFF files allowing you to receive faxes wherever you are as e-mails and
send faxes from any application that can print. The solution provides
distributed faxing capabilities, over a WAN, from a corporate office to small
remote offices as well as to field sales people. In addition, it provides
secure, convenient faxing for LAN users offering a high degree of privacy for
both the sender and recipient.
