April 5, 2004

The appointment was at 9:20 am. We reached the hospital around 8:45 a.m.
I was kinda anxious and worried that we should be able to see the baby’s
heart beat. Sathish was really relaxed!!! The nurse Karen called me in
and the routine tests like monitoring blood pressure, checking weight and
testing urine for the presence of protein and sugar were done. Then we
were told to wait in the exam room for Jackie. I was getting really jittery.

Finally Jackie came in and she first congratulated us. Then she hugged Anirudh
and said that he has grown really big and talked with him for a while –
well Anirudh was just doing some “Baby Talking” while Jackie was patiently
          listening to him.

Then she went over the results of the numerous blood and urine tests and
told me that everything looked normal. Next she did a pelvic internal exam
and pap smear. Then she took us to the Ultrasound room to see the baby’s
heartbeat. I was really nervous. She performed the scan and YES!!!!! –
we saw the tiny little heart beat. I was overwhelmed and my joy knew no
bounds and thanked the Almighty once again.

First Ultrasound Picture

Here is the picture that we got from that ultrasound.

The picture above shows that the baby is only 0.38 cm long and I am about 6
          weeks along in my pregnancy.

Jackie then gave some pregnancy journals and books to read at home and mentioned
that my next visit would be after 4 weeks, with Dr. Lurvey. Accordingly,
the nurse Karen made an appointment for me to see Dr. Lurvey on May 3 ’04.

We came back home and later in the evening, called up our parents to inform
them of this blessing of ours.

April 22, 2004

I’ve been having a slight headache for the last couple of days and initially
I had decided to wait till my next appointment with Dr. Lurvey, to address this
problem. Since it wasn’t getting any better, I decided to get a same day appointment
with some obstetrician and find out what was going on. I got an appointment to meet
Dr. Seth Kivnick at 10:30 a.m. Sathish could not make it to the clinic that day,
as he was little tied up with work. So, it was just Anirudh and me.

We reached the clinic at 10 a.m. The nurse called me inside and after the routine
tests were done, I was able to meet Dr. Kivnick. This was the first time that I
am meeting him and he was so nice in talking to me and addressing all issues.
He mentioned that headaches are very common in pregnancy, and so long as it is not
associated with blurring of vision and/or sudden swelling of face, arms and legs,
I really don’t need to bother about that. He also suggested that I could take
regular Tylenol, if the headache got worse.

He quickly did an Ultrasound to make sure that the baby is doing all right. Seen
below is the picture from the scan.

The picture above shows that the baby is 2.12 cms long and that I am 8 weeks and
5 days along in my pregnancy. He estimated that the due date would be around
Nov 26 ‘04. He also suggested that I meet Dr. Lurvey, as the latter
is my primary gynecologist and obstetrician.
