October 2003

Anirudh has completed 14 months of age now. Sathish and I have been having a
wonderful time with him, enjoying all that he did. We’ve been thinking about
two kids for us, and started talking about when to go about for the next.

I had my gynecology routine visit scheduled on Oct 9 ’03. I was going to meet
Dr. Lurvey then. We have heard and read that conceiving 18 to 23 months after
a previous birth may reduce risks to the new pregnancy. Anirudh is also 14
months now, and hence we decided to go for the next one shortly.

During my appointment with Dr. Lurvey, we discussed about this to him, and
requested him to check and/or treat me for any conditions that might interfere
with pregnancy. He did a thorough physical exam and mentioned that everything
has healed well from the previous childbirth and that I can get pregnant again,
if Sathish and I wanted to, and of course, wished us GOOD LUCK!!!

I was tested positive for rubella, during my first pregnancy. I was not too sure,
if I got vaccinated for the same after I delivered. I mentioned this also to
Dr. Lurvey. He did a blood test for the same and mentioned that the results
would be available only after a week or ten days.

About two weeks later, I received a letter in the mail from Dr. Lurvey that I
am not immune to rubella and that I have to get the MMR (Mumps Measles Rubella)
vaccine before getting pregnant again. I got the vaccine and had to wait for about
two to three months before getting pregnant to avoid any possible birth defects
of the type associated with congenital rubella in babies, whose mothers conceived
          soon after vaccination.
