October 8, 2004

I reached the hospital at 3:15 p.m. The nurse called me in and did the routine tests
and asked me to wait in the exam room for Dr. Lurvey.

Dr. Lurvey came in immediately. He checked the baby’s heartbeat and once again said
that I was doing very normal and that the baby is also just the right size. He went
over the results of the One Hour Glucose Tolerance test that was done the previous
month and told me that I do not have Gestational Diabetes. He told me that I was
anemic and advised me to take iron tablets.

Meanwhile, I started feeling my hands little numbed during the last 10 days. My hands
were also painful whenever I hold anything. I mentioned this to Dr. Lurvey and he
said that it is due to Carpel Tunnel Syndrome, which is sometimes pregnancy induced.
He also mentioned that my hands are swollen too, because of the fluid accumulation,
which has caused this Carpel Tunnel Syndrome. He mentioned that no treatment could be
done at this stage. He prescribed wearing Wrist Splints, which could provide some
relief from the pain. I also had some other questions, which he answered patiently.
He asked me to come back and see him in two weeks.

The next appointment is on Oct 26 ’04 with Dr. Lurvey at 3:00 p.m.

Then I went to the Dept. of Occupational Therapy and got those wrist splints.

October 26, 2004

I reached the hospital at 2:30 p.m. After I checked in, the nurse Ms. Nati Mora
did the initial routine tests. Then I waited in the exam room for Dr. Lurvey.

He came after a while and checked the size of my belly and told me that the baby
is exactly the right size for me being 36 and half weeks pregnant.

He then enquired if my hands were any better, after wearing those wrist splints.
I was not feeling really better, but it was little ok. Dr. Lurvey said that I’ve
to put up with that, until the baby is delivered. He suggested that I give some
rest to my hands and avoid doing lot of work at home, if possible.

Over the last two weeks, I’ve also started noticing some swelling in my ankles,
whenever I stand for longer periods of time. I mentioned this also to Dr. Lurvey.
He suggested that I’ve to give my body some rest and advised me to sit down for
15 mins with my feet elevated, for every one hour of standing.

He then checked the baby’s heartbeat and found that it was slightly higher than
normal and asked me to go for NST (Non-Stress Test) to make sure that nothing is
wrong. An NST is a simple painless procedure in which the baby’s heartbeat is
monitored while the baby is resting as well as while it is moving to evaluate
          his or her condition.

Dr. Lurvey then asked me to come back and see him after a week. The next appointment
was slated for Nov 3 ‘04, with Dr. Lurvey at 10:30 a.m.

So, I went and checked in for NST and the nurse Ms. Vanessa put me on monitors
and started the test. It took about an hour for the test to be completed. She
then called Dr. Su – the obstetrician on call, to interpret the results of the
test. He came and said that the test was absolutely normal. He assured that the baby’s
condition is absolutely normal and that there is nothing to worry about that.

October 27, 2004 - Happy Birthday Sathish !!!

Today is Sathish’s birthday. We were initially planning to go out for dinner, but
it turned out that it was a day of Lunar Eclipse. The moon will glide through
Earth’s shadow for more than three hours. The eclipse time in Los Angeles begins
at 6:14 p.m. The totality begins at 7:23 p.m. and ends at 8:45 p.m. The moon exits
the Earth’s shadow at 9:54 p.m. According to Hindu Myth, pregnant women shouldn’t be
going out before, during and after the eclipse!! So, we just had dinner at home.

October 29, 2004

My mom is arriving from India today to help us out before and after the baby is born.
Anirudh, Sathish and I went to the airport at 4:30 p.m. to pick her up. All of us are
delighted on seeing each other. My mom was especially delighted, seeing Anirudh!!!

October 30, 2004

We took my mom to our new home community, to show her the model homes. She was so
happy and excited on seeing that. We then went around doing some shopping for our
          new home.

October 31, 2004

Today is Halloween. We bought a Knight’s costume for Anirudh. But he was not doing
very well since morning and just refused to wear his Halloween costume. So, we just
dressed him in a black dress and went “Trick or treating” to a couple of homes.
