November 7, 2004 - "THE" Day!!!!

          7:00 a.m.
My mom and I woke up. She had coffee and I had milk and some cookies and had a nice
chat about the fun we had the previous evening at the party.

          8:30 a.m.
I went to have a shower and noticed that I had little spotting. Told my mom.
She wasn’t really concerned since it was only spotting and I felt no pain either.
Sathish and Anirudh were still sleeping. I woke them up also. Sathish wasn’t concerned
either. He said we could wait for some more time since there was no pain or heavy
bleeding. I was like definitely wanting to go to the hospital just to make sure, that
I am not in labor. Sathish and my mom were really positive that I would be sent back
          home.

          9:20 a.m.
We went to “Labor and Delivery” unit at Kaiser Permanente Hospital. The nurse entered
all my details into the computer. I had to wait for the mid-wife to come and check
my cervix. She was delivering another baby. Finally, the mid-wife Ms. Alice Feinstein
came after half hour and checked my cervix. Much to everyone’s surprise, I was 4 cms
dialated and in active labor. She said that I’ve to be admitted and the baby would be
          delivered.

Then they hooked me on to the monitors. Contractions were coming a few minutes
apart, but they were absolutely painless. Dr. Ramin Bhizhang was the OB on call.
He came in sometime later and checked me. He mentioned that I might have to have a
C-section to deliver the baby, since the position was not all right for a vaginal
delivery. There was no choice, but to accept that.

It seems that the stomach has to be completely empty before the surgery. Since I had
a glass of milk and some cookies in the morning at around 7, Dr. Bhizhang suggested
that we wait for 8 hrs before the C-section can be done. So, it was scheduled for
3.00 p.m. Before leaving, he checked my cervix and found that I had dialated to 6 cms.
Since labor was progressing very fast, he prescribed some medication, which would normally
relax the uterus and slow down the progress of labor. I did receive that.

          1:30 p.m.
That medicine didn’t seem to work very well for me. The monitors showed that the
contractions were coming in more frequently, although it was painless for me.
Dr. Bhizhang once again checked my cervix and mentioned that I had dialated close
to 8 cms. He said that the C-section has to be done right away.

          2:00 p.m.
I was taken to the operating room. Sathish was with me in the operating room. Anirudh
and mom were waiting outside. The anesthesiologist Dr. Vadehra, administered spinal
anesthesia. Dr. Bhizhang performed the surgery. He is ready to bring my baby into this
          world.

          2:32 p.m.
The little one arrives – yet another sweet baby boy!! Another wonderful moment in our
lives, which we will cherish forever.

Seen above is the first picture of our son, entering into this world.

          3:00 p.m.
I was moved to the recovery room along with the baby. And I was able to hold him for
the first time. Another precious moment in my life.

Seen above is the first picture of my son and I bonding with each other. Also seen
is my mom’s hand. She presented a silver spoon to him. Yes, our son is born with a
          silver spoon.

Anirudh was happy to see another baby, but did not understand what was happening.
My mom showed Anirudh his brother,

and then, yes, he announced his younger brother’s arrival into this world.
