Officer Tiffany Hickey

USA Officer Hickey died on 30 May 1999.
She was involved in a traffic accident one week previous to this, where she
sustained serious injuries. She was involved in a vehicle stop with her partner
when they saw a vehicle speed past. They pursued the vehicle and saw it speed
through a red light. As they followed, her partner swerved to avoid another
vehicle and the police car skidded into a lighting pole. Tiffany Hickey was
20 years old and was still in her first month of police service |

Officer Carol Ledford

USA
Officer Ledford was killed on 19 April
1999. Her patrol car was struck by a drunk driver. She is survived by her
parents. |

Officer Joyce Carnegie
Orange Police Department, New Jersey,
USA
Officer Carnegie was killed on 8 April
1999. She was found lying beside her patrol car by an ATF agent who had stopped
when he saw the unattended car parked with lights on. She had heard a radio
call reporting that a man had committed two muggings in the area and saw
a suspect walking along the street towards her. As she left her vehicle,
he shot her in the head and in the abdomen below her vest level |

Sergeant Tonya Gillikin
Enfield Police Department, North Carolina,
USA
Sergeant Gillikin was killed on 15 March
1999. She and another officer were attempting to handcuff a suspect they
had arrested for robbery when the man broke free and shot her in the head.
He made off despite being fired on by the other officer, but was later arrested,
having been identified via his drivers licence. |

Deputy Kelly Clark
Sierra County Sheriffs Office, New Mexico,
USA
Deputy Clark was killed on 4 March 1999.
She was transporting a prisoner who managed to disarm her as she drove, shooting
her in the head with her own handgun. The suspect escaped as the police vehicle
crashed and was later arrested, still handcuffed and carrying Deputy Clark's
weapon. Kelly Clark was 39 years of age and is survived by her teenage
daughter. |
