Success Stories
Many ferrets have already passed through the shelter and been adopted into loving homes.  Here are their pictures and stories.

The following three ferrets came to the shelter from a local animal shelter.  The shelter called us and informed us that these ferrets had been left there the night before, and had spent the night in a 1-foot by 1-foot by 5 inch box in 100 degree temperatures.  When we arrived, we found that the box the ferrets were in did not even allow them to stand up.  They were all badly infested with fleas, and two of them were not moving at all due to heat stroke.  They all still had their scent glands, and were being used for breeding.  All three ferrets had been severely abused and had broken bones.

"Baby" - This ferret had almost died of heat stroke when we initially found her.  Later, she again faced death when fighting a serious uterine infection and anemia.  But she pulled through and was adopted by a loving family who had to return her due to allergies.  She is now back at the ferret shelter, and is a constant source of joy for all of us. She has a gentle quality, as well as a very playful side, and we've decided to keep her around for a while this time.

"Tonka" - This ferret is a gentle giant.  He is most likely the father of Baby.  He spends his days now with a loving family and two other ferrets, including Tinker (pictured later)

"Momma" - This ferret had to be euthanized due to complications from adrenal gland disease.  She was also very old, and after a hard life didn't have much left to give.  She is definitely one of our "success stories" even though she was euthanized, because she was brought out of a horrible situation and allowed to spend her final days in a warm, loving environment.  She was most likely the mother of Baby.

"Mr. Big'ns" - This ferret came to the shelter because his family, for various reasons, couldn't keep him.  He loves to play hide-and-seek, and enjoys bananas and raisins.  He was adopted by a loving family.

"Chewie" - Brother to Tinker, Chewie was rescued at the same time she was (information below).  Chewie has a very laid-back personality (see picture), and is a real joy to be around.  He is a picky ferret, so don't bother buying him nutritious ferret treats or ferret toys--he prefers his kitten food and a plastic bag.  He has been adopted out to a loving owner as well, and even gets to see his sister now and then.

"Tinker" - This silver mitt ferret came in to the shelter with her litter-mate and brother Chewie.  Their owner was unable to keep them for various reasons.  These ferrets were both neglected if not abused, and Tinker still likes to bite folks now and then (so would you if you were abused!).  She currently resides with a loving family and two other ferrets, including Tonka.

"Hoss Boss" - He was the first ferret actually rescued by the ferret shelter, and is still a resident there.  We just can't part with such a cute little rat.  Hoss Boss came from a good, loving family whose only reason for giving him up was that they had to move to a "ferret-free zone."  He is the ultimate carpet shark, and can barely stand to be held, fearing he might miss something.  He has boundless energy and an impish personality.

"Ozzy" - This was the shelter director's first ferret, and is part of the inspiration for the ferret shelter itself.  Ozzy came from a rescue shelter in Clarksville, TN.  He loves raisins and road trips.
