Gargress in RL

Mostly known as Gargress online, in RL most peeps just call me Mari. I am a seventeen-year-old with a love to write any type of story, be it gargs-related fanfiction or non-gargs-related fantasy stories you may being seeing later on in the Fanfiction part of this site. Ever since the animated action drama "Gargoyles" graced the small screen on October 24, 1994, I have been a dedicated and loyal fan. Five years into the fandom itself my mother has stopped wondering if there's a cure for Gargoyles Manic Sydrome, and frankly I couldn't be better. Slowly building a "Gargoyles" collection, starting from just the requisite home taped episodes off Fox in '94 to all 78 commercial-free eps in '99, from almost every shopping trip I am a happy camper all things considered.

A few years back, give or take, I met Kelly who is a local gargs fan of mine and true friend. Believe it or not, she just happened to see Brooklyn's name in the notebook where I was writing my first 'net posted fanfic "Renegade Fey" in Algebra I. (::whispers:: I think she was looking over my shoulder but I digress.) It was great to meet another fan face to face, and I thought I was the only gargs fan down in the Sunshine State. :-) I think that was a great way to start off high school. I have also managed to convert a few of my friends into gargs fans that are currently accompanying me to G2K, so we'll see how that turns out.

Well now, I think the main reasons I came to love "Gargoyles" so much are because the show itself is so involved with historical facts and stretches them to the point where if I didn't know better I couldn't tell what's real and what's not. The way Disney's writers incorperated references to works by Shakespeare, Arthurian Legend, Greek Mythology, Celtic Mythology and so on amazed me. The whole first two seasons were by far the best ever done, though I'm sorry I can't say the same for TGC. I thank Disney for trying a third season on for size but I'd rather go on acknowledging the first two seasons and not the third. The imagination, details and realistic backgrounds that went into the making of the main characters & supporting roles kept me glued to my seat until each and every ep was done for each day.

Gargoyles has insprired me not only in my writing but artistically as well. Over the few years since I'd first seen "Gargoyles" I began drawing them. Come to think of it most of my doodles were gargoyles related things, but seeing as progress can often time be a tad on the messy side I don't think it will be posted online anytime soon. :-) Although I admit that I'm not definitely as good as most serious artists out there, but I am happy with the progress I've made from a stick figure with bat wings to a full-fledged gargoyle with glider style wings.

I'd also like to point out that a great part of my inspirations have come from all of you. Yes, all you fanfic writers and great artists that have depicted "Gargoyles" in your written as well as drawn art. Christine Morgan, Lisette, Amanda Ohlin, Christine Smith Hayden, Selanit, Jewel Faulkner, Scott Mercure and more than I could ever possibly name & give credit to have been wonderful inspirations. I hope that all you "Gargoyles" fanfic writers out there keep up the outstanding work! Believe me, I've read most if not all the fanfic posted at "The Gargoyles Fan Website," so I'm pretty much aware about the numerous fanfic universes created out there over the years, and their authors. :-)

Like any other gargs fan I belong to a few clans and clubs. Among them Clan Moray and P.U.C.K. (Puck's United Church Kinsmen). There is a link to P.U.C.K. on my links page, and feel free to go to Yahoo! Clubs and look up Clan Moray. We welcome any and all gargs fans who are looking to interact with others of their fandom. Just email me or any of the clan members for an invite. Also, there is an MSN club by Goliath called Gargoyles of Castle Wyvern that the everyday fan could check out too.
