Tayport came very very close to retaining the East Super League today.
Two goals from Ross Gunnion and veteran striker Dave Reilly left Port
trying desperately to get a third with 23 minutes remaining. Hill Of Beath
keeper Ross Harrower pulled of two excellent saves tipping a long
range effort over the crossbar. With 10 minutes remaining the ball broke
to Dave Rielly inside the Haws goalmouth with the striker sending the ball
high over the open goalmouth from six yards. Haws never looked like they
were going to give up lightly and battled on gamely defying wave after
wave of attack from Tayport. Two strong handball claims for Tayport were
turned away by the officials. The referee had to add on 6 minutes of extra
time probably to make up for some slow play from the visitors. Tayport
threw everything into attack during the closing 6 minutes leaving them
open at the back. Haws Martyn Thomson with two minutes remaining collected
a ball from the right and sent it goal bound and the Championship to
Linlithgow. A crowd of around 600 turned up at The Canniepairt today on a
sun filled afternoon. Personally I look forward to another exciting Super
League next season. As I like a wee punt does anybody agree Lochee United
could be a decent bet for the championship? Picture page two Picture page one |
