Well, folks, it has come to this...
I think now would be a good time to let you all know where I'm
coming from on this quest to oust Rollie from the roost. Since
this site's inception, I have dedicated myself not to revealing
myself for one simple reason:
It's not important.
What FireRollie.com is the
only thing that has mattered to me. I could be any Joe Schmoe
off the street that created this whole thing, and my guess is
that nobody would have batted an eye.
But recently, I have been confronted with the realization that
apparently it is important who I am, especially to some thoughtless
people who have gotten to the point where calling me names and
such is much better than rationality.
For the record, my name is Bob McDonald. For a time, I was the
Sports Editor for Cleveland State's student newspaper, The Cauldron.
Unlike now, I was a pretty big Rollie guy. In fact, in my column,
"Teed Off," I displayed my favor towards the man in a couple of
pieces over the years.
This went on for a while, as Rollie started building the team
he wanted. By the 1999-2000 season, I was ready to watch the Vikings
get an NCAA berth. But, of course, it didn't happen.
I wasn't happy, and relayed it in my column (not available online).
But after blowing off some steam, I had hoped that 2000-2001 was
the year. But again, CSU was denied, leaving me to stew...
And then we come up to this season. After the loss to IUPUI,
I wasn't very happy, considering I knew that the Vikes had much
more talent than to lose to a team from the Mid-Con that wasn't
named Valparaiso..
But after the Stony Brook loss, I just snapped. And FireRollie.com
was born. It was not out of the possibility to gain notoriety
for myself or some chip on my shoulder about the basketball team.
It was out of frustration; the kind that comes from waiting all
this time (Since 1992-93 for me, and since 1985-86 for others)
for something good to happen with the Vikings and nothing happening.
So that's all I have to say. Take it for what it's worth...
