They Will Never See

    sunsep

The phones are ringing, the tones blaring as out we go again,
To just another fire alarm, pulled by someone as a game.
Yet they will never get it, that sense of reality,
The dangers of being a firefighter just like me.
They will never see the tears in a mothers eye,
As she watches her house burn, no matter how hard we try.
And they will never see the cruelty of arson at play,
The red devil mocking us from places to which it has strayed.
They will never see the many, acting frantic
To find that their loved one was lost from a Paramedic.

But at the same point, with as much reality,
They will never be appreciated, like you and me.
They will walk the aisle, on Graduation Day,
To be told that they know it all,
and the red carpet will be laid.
We'll never get a red carpet, our gear is black from soot,
But to us a thank you or a smile, is all that it took.
To keep on fighting the flames, cause there's got to be a Joe,
And a Jane or Jim that give us a feeling that only we know.
But you go your way and I'll go mine, maybe we'll meet again,
But the feelings of a Fireman are one thing you can't pretend!
