The Mission |
I am one of a growing number of students at Liberty University who sincerely desire to see God bring reformation and revival to Liberty University, and to that end, I submit the following... -Premises- 1- Liberty University wishes to be known as a conservative Christian University. 2- Many of those in leadership positions at Liberty University hold views that are in conflict with Scripture and traditional Christian teachings. 3- These leaders, as well as the students here, are brothers and sisters in Christ. 4- The overall atmosphere at Liberty University tends toward pietism and legalism. The focus of worship services is on personal experience and emotional fulfillment rather than correct teaching and understanding of God's Word. -Conclusions- 1- Liberty University must be called back to the Bible, and embrace the teachings of Scripture, even those which seem offensive to the natural man. 2- Scripture must be the only source of divine revelation about God. Seeking to encounter God on an emotional basis apart from Scripture is blasphemy. 3- Emotions are a good thing, but only when they are informed and excited by the truth of God's Word. 4- Though there is a need for personal holiness, devotional messages and bouncy worship choruses are not the answers. If we are to have moral reform, we must first seek doctrinal reform. Only with a renewed focus on the objective work of Christ, His atonement for our sins, and the doctrines of God's grace can we ever hope to see revival at Liberty University. Reformation must always preceed revival. 5- This must be accomplished by lovingly correcting brothers and sisters when they are mistaken, and directing one another to the Scriptures. All of this must be done for the sole desire of seeing God glorified on the campus of Liberty University in every part of our lives. |
