Educated at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music, Layne has been performing professionally since aged 14. Leading jazz ensembles & as trombonist & vocalist with Brass Machine, Layne has performed at several International Jazz Festivals including the Edinburgh & Monterey Jazz Festivals. Layne has recorded with numerous musicians including Don Burrows, Chuck Findlay & George Golla.
Layne is currently employed as music teacher at Barrenjoey High School & plays trombone for the original ska band Backyskank.
Layne has performed with: Brass Machine, Blue Riff, Swing Thing, Soul Fish Fusion, & Backyskank as well as numerous jazz & funk ensembles.
Layne has directed a number of jazz ensembles including: Blue Riff, Barrenjoey High Stage Band, Barrenjoey Fusion Band, Swing Thing, & as Guest Director of the Highland Big Band as well as many workshop & special event jazz ensembles.
Layne has performed with: Don Burrows, Chuck Findlay, Ed Wilson, James Morisson, John Morisson, Bobby Shoe & Andrew Speight.
