Key West has small town charm with unique turn-of-the century architecture. The streets are lined with huge houses with pillars and wrap around porches surrouned by shady palm trees. On the right is the Hard Rock Cafe where Adam worked as a server for a year. It is in an old mansion where the original owner commintted suicide in one of the upstairs bathrooms years ago. I'm not sure if I believe the story, but Adam swears it's true! |

Below: Fat Tuesday on a quiet afternoon. Once night hits, however, it's a different story! |
Below: I made Adam drive me all around town to get photos these three "famous" signs. From left to right: Duval Street is the main street in town where all of the most popular clubs and restaraunts are, and it's where Fantasy Fest is held every year. A1A is supposedly the street Vanilla Ice is talking about when he says: "Yo-- So I continued to A1A, Beachfront Avenue" in the song Ice, Ice, Baby. Mile 0 is famous because it is the LAST mile of the road, the very end of Key West and the southernmost point in the United States. There are even T-Shirt stands nearby where they sell "Mile 0" merchandise. [ Click on each picture to see a larger version] |
Below: Both pictures were taken at Mallory Square, the oceanfront plaza where the Sunset Festival is held every night. On the left I am standing in front of a HUGE cruise ship that's about to set sail. On the right I am shaking hands with a performer from the festival who was painted head to toe in silver paint! Below: Southern Gal! At that very moment, I was the southernmost person in the ENTIRE United States. Pretty cool, huh? |
