A Real Energy Policy for US?

Want cheaper gasoline for your gas guzzling SUV now?
Want cheaper heating oil for your minimumly insulated house now?
Love Exxon or Conoco-Dupont or Shell stock and you want them to build solar power plants that would help your ashma and protect your children from toxic fly ash?
Can your favorite energy company make money from the power tower technology now?
Do you want to save $12,900 per year?

Desert Solar Power Tower Energy, Cost Competative with Coal Energy $0.05/kW Hour

Florida Solar Power Tower Energy, Cost Between Coal and Oil.

We have known for >9 years that the Solar Power Tower Design is competative with Coal Power. Private corporations have been ready to build 200 to 400 Megawatt Solar Power Tower Electric Plants.

If the solar technology is ready, why did Congress ignore this type of plant and give over $70 million in federal tax money to JEA to install a new coal fired furnance in Jacksonville Florida?

Congress could have specified this money for a 200 Megawatt Solar test facility here.

Solar power plants put out almost no pollution as compared to dioxin belching coal fired power plants.

In contrast, the new Jacksonville Florida coal fired fluidized bed power "furnace" will generate up to 1 / 2 pound of dioxin, Agent Orange.

This dioxin will go into the fly ash (wall board filler?) and into the environment. This "pet coke and coal" dioxin is part of the dioxin induced disease cost of $12,900 per household per year.

Dioxin producing power companies, incinerators operators, paper mills "externalize this hidden cost back to the consumer."

Sandia National Laboratories and private corporations SUCCESSFULLY completed testing of Solar Two in the California Mojabi Desert, supplying 10 Megawatts of power Solar Two collected sun energy during the day, stored the heat in a salt solution and generated power during peak times into the evening.

The results show that the fifth Solar Power Tower Plant (SPTP) will be cost competative with Coal Fired Electrical Generating Plants (CFEGP):

1. SPTP Solar: Electricity for sale at $0.15/kW hour. Ref. 2
(1st desert unit).

2. Coal: [Jacksonville Electric Authority Sale price: $0.0806/kW hour,
residential customer cost after distribution. 11/2000]

3. SPTP Solar: Electricity for sale at $0.05/kW hour. Ref. 2
(5th desert unit, similar to a coal power plant's price).
Florida has 1/2 the solar radiation as the Mohabi Desert
location of Solar II. A Florida unit would need about twice
the mirrows as a desert unit but not need a significantly
more costly power tower or generator, etc.
