Please pass on the message to Edgardo Alfonzo that he will be missed terribly. I am a life long Mets fan whose favorite players were Gooden and Strawberry. As we all know those players wound up being big disappointments on and off the field. However, ever since Alfonzo joined the Mets (I also went to college in Binghamton when he played there) he has been my favorite player because of his superior play, graciousness and love of the game. The Mets made a huge mistake by not re-signing Alfonzo. I know he had a couple of tough years b/c of injury, but to cut ties with one of the classiest Mets is a disgrace by the team. Please note that I wrote the Mets on their homepage imploring them to offer Alfonzo arbitration, but I never got a response.
Please tell Edgardo that I will miss him in a Mets uniform and that the next team he plays for will hold a special place in my heart.
Best regards. Frank Vellucci
PS: My wife's family is from Whitestone Queens (where Edgardo lived for a few years) and they took me to a Japanese restaurant on Francis Lewis Blvd and it had pictures of Alfonzo on more than one occasion eating at the restaurant. Seeing that brought a huge smile to my face and it also made me want to like the restaurant b/c then I could have something in common with Edgardo.
