MSG Network has learned that the Mets have reached an understanding with Japanese free agent Norihiro Nakamura on a two-year contract Wednesday.

The 29-year-old native of Osaka has played 11 seasons for Japan's Osaka Kintetsu Buffaloes with a .270 lifetime average and consecutive seasons of 39 (2000), 46 (2001) and 42 (2002) home runs.
