In 2000, when he was running for president, GW Bush was asked what philosopher influenced him most. He replied that it was Jesus Christ because "He touched my heart."
I said to that the same I say to any profession of Christianity: Show me the fruit. -- Matthew 7:15-20
Based on just this, Millions of Christians went crazy with admiration for him. The Religious Right spin machine went into overdrive.
We hear a lot about "The Obama Deception" as well we should. This is just the secular left wing version of the religious right wing version of the Bush Deception. It is about building a personality cult around a secular official. It is part of what I call the Big Ramp-Up to the Anti-Christ. (I don't think Obama, as evil as he is, is the Anti-Christ.)
GW Bush said one thing about Jesus one time. However, the propaganda about this was so relentless and so thick that Chuck Baldwin once said that these people want to "add Bush to the Holy Trinity."
To paraphrase Sting, every little thing Bush did was Christian. Everything done in the name of his policies was promoted as Christian.
This included:
At the end of the Bush years, abortions were still as available as they were in the Clinton years.
The Bible tells Christians not to conform to the world -- Romans 12:2 -- and not to be unequally yoked -- II Corinthians 6:14. But so many Christians were soooooo obsessed with supporting GW Bush that they disregarded all Christian morality in the process.
This is not about whether GW Bush is in or is not a Christian. That is, as always, between him and God and is never for me to judge. It is about the death of discernment among so many people who profess to be Christians.

"As Jesus was sitting on the Mount of Olives, the disciples came to him privately. 'Tell us,' they said, 'when will this happen, and what will be the sign of your coming and of the end of the age?' Jesus answered: 'Watch out that no one deceives you.'" -- Matthew 24:3-4
