Today Magnum is doing better. I called this morning at 7:45 and the girl said he ate and drank this morning. He went out at 2 AM to potty. When I called, he was ready for more pain meds but the girl said he didn't look like he needed them. He looked great! What a relief!! They will give him the pain meds anyway to ward off pain but he is doing much better today and they expect him to be able to come home around noon. We picked Magnum up. Tried to potty him before we left the clinic but he was too agitated. He kept wanting to run to the car. We finally decided that we would be better off to just take him home and let him potty there even though it was an hour drive. He whined a lot on the way home. Erica sat on the floor of the van with him and fed him kibbles one at a time and Charlee Bears. His lip started to bleed again a little bit from the stitches being taken out I suppose. We finally made it home and he went potty before going in the house. He wants to move too fast and not walk slowly. It's like he can't understand why he can't just run off on his 3 legs like he used to. He whined quite a bit off and on. I gave him some Rescue Remedy and he settled down for maybe an hour or so. Then he was up whining again. I gave him some more Rescue Remedy in yogurt and he seems to have calmed down a bit again. It is so hard not to give him his big bone. I was really counting on that for diversion when we got home. The tech did say she thought that a soft toy would be o.k. so I'm going to try a sock with a biscuit tied off in it and just watch him. He doesn't get any more pills for a couple of hours yet. I think at pill time I'll give him the pill, a little more kibble with yogurt and take him out to potty. We went out to potty, he was still whiny when I brought him in so I gave him his dinner with a Rimadyl in it. He seemed to settle down pretty good after that. He is sleeping now and it is 10:00 p.m. on our first night home. I'm not sure I'll make it through this. I put a towel and pillow with an ice pack under his bad leg to prop it up a bit. He is tolerating it very well right now and is still laying quietly. |
