Those darlings of avant-garde folk, Retrovirus & Opportunistic Infection, spend their lives strolling the streets of Kentucky, keeping a tape recorder going nonstop. As they wander along their meandering path, they sing about whatever pops into their cabezas, recording hours and hours of completely impromptu, made-up-on-the-spot songs, stories, and chamber music. As great as their gritty, soulful music is, it's even more astounding when you realize that it's utterly unrehearsed, unplanned and stream-of-consciousness. They've kept up this insane pace since the 1970s, and have been ripped off along the way by everyone from Beavis & Butthead to William Hung, while they themselves languish in obscurity, eating Junior Mints behind that big green thing.
