Guarded Trust (Part 5)
Caroline Benson
She put away a few more things and decided to go see if Riddick really was
asleep. Walking softly, so not to wake him if he was sleeping, Carolyn made
her way down the hall and padded down the stairs. In the kitchen, she
slipped her shoes off. Now in socks, she walked slowly to the doorway of
the sitting room. She stopped and leaned on the frame. Riddick looked at
peace in his sleep. Not troubled at all, like he had seemed before. She
smiled. He was so cute! She giggled at the thought and turned back into
the kitchen. Her stomach growled and she rolled her eyes. She hadn't had
very much to eat lately.
Walking over to the auto-chef, she decided she wanted some fried chicken.
It had been a while since she'd had that. She hit some buttons, and cringed
at the loud sound they made. She didn't want to wake Riddick up. The
chicken was done and she grabbed the plate it was on. Turning around, she
yelped and jumped back. Riddick was standing right behind her.
"Oh God!" she whispered, smiling, "You scared me!"
"Sorry." He said.
"I'm sorry if I woke you up. I was hungry. I didn't mean to be that
loud."
"It's alright." He just looked at her. She got an uncomfortable feeling
and walked past him. She maneuvered around the kitchen so that a table was
in between them. She didn't think he was going to do anything, but she
couldn't be sure. She hoped he didn't notice it though. Beginning to pick
at her chicken, she looked back up at him. He was in the same spot, only
turned around to look at her again. Carolyn looked down again.
"So, uh, I was thinking," she started, "you know that hot tub in the
bedroom? Well, I was thinking that maybe we could go out and I could get a
swimsuit, you know, so I could go for a dip or something."
Riddick didn't
show any kind of reaction in his face, so it was a good thing that he spoke,
"Yeah, lemme know when you wanna go, alright?"
And before she could
answer, he went back into the sitting room. Carolyn watched him walk away.
'Ok,' she thought, 'what was that all about?' But she didn't worry with it.
She finished her chicken and went back upstairs.
Down the hallway and in to the bedroom. She turned and shut the door, and
started to look for another pair of clothes to wear. She picked a pair of
tan pants and a white muscle tank. She slid her black pants and shirt off
and replaced them with the new outfit. After sliding on her tan boots, she
brushed through her hair quickly and went back downstairs.
"Hey Riddick," she yelled, "I'm ready!" He appeared in the doorway to the
kitchen.
"Well come on." He mumbled and turned to walk out.
"You got the cash credits?" she asked as she followed.
"Yeah." He didn't turn around. They walked out the door and Riddick locked
it. Carolyn waited on him and let him lead the way. He walked past the
ROLA registration building and toward a line of shops.
"This look Ok?" he paused. Carolyn looked around.
"Should be fine." With that, Riddick walked on. Carolyn walked beside
him, looking at the stores ahead of them.
"Oh! There's a suit store!" she jogged ahead.
"Alright, I'm gonna look in here." He pointed to a gun and knife store.
Carolyn smirked.
"Okay, I'll meet you there in a bit." She walked on ahead. Riddick turned
and entered the store. The owner gave him a suspicious look. Riddick
noticed there was a whore in the corner, she was smiling at him. He turned
his back to her and began to look ever some guns. He hadn't been looking
for five minutes when he heard high-pitched screaming coming from down the
street. He ran out the door, and the prostitute was close behind him,
wanting to know what was going on.
Riddick looked down toward the direction of the screaming.
"Carolyn!" he started running.
Carolyn was pinned down on the sidewalk by a husky man who was attempting
to kiss her and unzip her pants at the same time. Carolyn was wildly
struggling to get out from under him. Clearly, he was drunk and horny, and
things like this weren't uncommon on pleasure planets.
Riddick reached the two and grabbed the man by the shoulders. Heaving him
off of Carolyn, he didn't realize that the guy had a hold of Carolyn's arms.
When Riddick threw him off, he let go of Carolyn, sending her off balance
and she fell back, hitting her head on the ground, hard enough to knock her
unconscious. Riddick saw blood coming from her head, and turned to hit the
man in the mouth. The punch sent the man backwards; he grabbed his mouth,
and at seeing a tooth in his hand, cursed under his breath and ran off.
Riddick turned his attention back to Carolyn. There was now a small puddle
of blood under her head. The prostitute was now standing over her.
"What happened?" she asked. Riddick didn't hear her. He bent down and
picked Carolyn up. At a quick pace, he headed for the Star Gazer. It would
have an emergency med-lab. The whore followed him, but he didn't notice, he
was too concerned with Carolyn.
Upon reaching the registration building, Riddick picked up the pace. He
asked where the med-lab was. Once he was there and had explained the
situation, three men had come with a stretcher and taken Fry off to heal her
head. Riddick was shown to a waiting area, along with the prostitute. They
sat for a few minutes before she tried to talk to him.
"Are you two a couple?" she asked, brushing her frizzy hair out of her
face. Riddick glared at her.
"I'm sorry, my name's Reba. You?" Riddick snorted and got up and walked
out.
"Well fine then!" The woman said. She stood up and walked towards a
med-tech.
"Excuse me, can I see the young woman who came in unconscious?" The
med-tech led her to where Carolyn was.
"She's hazy, in and out." And he left. The prostitute went to Fry's side.
Carolyn woke up and looked confused at seeing the woman there.
"I'm Reba. I saw everything. That man you're with hit the hell outta that
guy that was on top of you!"
Carolyn wrinkled her brow.
"Huh?"
"Oh yea honey! He just ran up and slugged the other guy. And once he was
gone, your man picked you right up and basically ran with you over to here.
Hardly ever see that kind of caring on a pleasure planet. Wish I had a man
that sweet." As soon as she said that, Riddick walked up behind her. He
stopped and glared a Reba, who got slightly edgy.
"Uh, well, honey, I hope you're alright. I gotta get back to, uh." she
dropped the sentence and grabbed her handbag. She quickly scurried past
Riddick and was gone.
"How are you doin?" Riddick asked as he walked over to stand beside
Carolyn.
"My head hurts." She whimpered. Looking up at Riddick from where she lay,
she realized just how big he really was. Fry got a little edgy and shifted
positions.
"What?" he looked shocked and puzzled.
"Oh, nothing, my head just really hurts. What exactly happened, anyway?"
she questioned.
"I'll tell you about it later. The med-techs told me you'll be fine and
that I should take you home for rest. They also gave me some pills that they
said you should take." He held a bottle up. Carolyn nodded.
"And how exactly am I supposed to get to the apartment?" she sighed.
"Well," Riddick started, "it's not far at all so they're not gonna get you
into a transport.can you walk?"
"I guess we'll find out, won't we?" Carolyn grimaced as she sat up. She
put her hand on her forehead.
"Uh, ouch." She whined. Riddick looked concerned.
"You want me to carry you?" he stepped forward. Carolyn blinked.
"Uh, well, lemme try to do it myself." She swung her feet over the edge of
the stretcher she was on. Setting her feet on the floor, she hesitated.
"If I fall." she looked up at Riddick, shyly.
"I'll catch you." He finished her sentence. Fry looked relieved. She
slowly stood up and headed toward the exit door. Riddick followed her
closely.
They made it out of the med-lab and registration building without much
difficulty. The distance to their apartment, however, seemed to grow with
every step Carolyn took. She started to wobble and stumble. Her vision was
getting blurry and her hand was constantly at her head. Riddick looked
worried and concerned.
About halfway to the apartment, Carolyn stumbled and fell. Riddick lurched
forward and caught her just before she hit the ground. He hoisted her up
and carried her the rest of the way. Fry didn't fight him; she was too weak
to even try.
Riddick finally made it to the front porch of the apartment. He set
Carolyn down on the steps and opened the door. Picking her up again, he
walked through the house, up the stairs, and down the hall. Gently, he laid
her down on her bed. He pulled a blanket up to her chest.
Carolyn looked up at him. She was wondering how someone so tough and cruel
could be so gentle with her. She smiled.
"What?" Riddick looked puzzled.
"Nothing." Carolyn mumbled, and she fell asleep. Riddick leaned over and
brushed the hair out of her face. He stood and looked at her for a few
moments before he turned around and walked out of the room. He shut the
door behind him.
Outside in the hall, Riddick sat down and ran his hand over his face. He
was really confused. He knew he was worried about Carolyn, but to be
worried for her, he had to truly care about her. And that scared him.
Richard B. Riddick didn't care about anything or anyone. Especially not a
girl. But somehow, he did. He did care about her. The only problem was
actually admitting it.
Carolyn woke up late at night. She propped herself up on her elbows and
looked around. Everything was dark. She sat up and rubbed her head. It
still hurt, but not nearly as much. She swung her legs over the bed and sat
there for a minute. Slowly, she stood up and began to walk towards the
door. She walked down the hall to the bathroom.
Turning the faucet on, she splashed water on her face. She sunk her aching
head and let the drops roll and fall off her face. Deeply breathing, she
just stood there, hunched over the sink, and thought. Why had Riddick been
so considerate? And gentle? After those first encounters with him, why
would he be so nice now? She didn't want to seem ungrateful, but she didn't
know if she could really trust him, and she didn't want to take any chances.
Carolyn raised her head to look in the mirror. She jumped.
Riddick was
right behind her. At seeing her start like she had, Riddick put his hand on
her back, to steady her. She wasn't quite stable on her feet yet.
"Sorry." He said. Carolyn moved slightly, but just enough to move out of
his reach. He dropped his hand.
"It's alright, you just have a habit of startling me." Carolyn looked away.
"Yeah, sorry." Riddick mumbled. Carolyn looked at him and thought she saw
true sincerity in his eyes. She was sorry she had phrased her words that
way.
"How are you feeling?" Riddick asked.
"A lot better, my head still hurts a little."
"You need to take one of those pills."
"Yeah, and I could use some food, too."
"Alright," Riddick turned, "come on." He walked out the door and went
downstairs. Carolyn hesitated, but followed.
When she got to the kitchen, Riddick had already gotten her a pill and
water. She swallowed both.
"What time is it?" she asked.
"Around three," Riddick shrugged his shoulders. "What do you want to eat?"
He walked over to the auto-chef. Carolyn bit her lip.
"Umm. I'm not really hungry.so, just some tomato soup. That sounds good."
Riddick nodded and punched it in. After a few minutes, the bowl of steaming
soup appeared ready. Riddick picked it up and brought it over to a table,
motioning for Carolyn to sit down. She did.
Riddick sat the bowl down in
front of her and took a seat himself, directly across from her. Everytime
she looked up, she found Riddick sitting with his arms crossed in front of
him, and he was always staring at her with his metallic eyes.
Riddick could tell that his staring was making Carolyn uncomfortable, but
he didn't want to look away from her. So he didn't. He just wanted to
watch her; she was still weak, he could tell, and he was worried. So he
would just watch her. Finally Carolyn broke the silence.
"So what happened to me, anyway?" Riddick sat up.
"I was looking around in that gun shop, and all of a sudden, I heard
screaming. So I ran outside, and I saw you, pinned down by some horny
asshole who was trying to get in your damn pants, right in the middle of the
fucking street. He was drunk."
"I remember that." Carolyn interrupted. Riddick paused.
"Yeah, well, I ran up and jerked the bastard back, and he had a hold of you
and you fell back and hit your head on the pavement. It knocked you
unconscious." He looked at Fry.
"Oh.alright." she said. "So what happened to the guy?" Riddick leaned back
in his chair. He smiled.
"Let's just say he'll need some dental work, compliments of Richard B.
Riddick." Carolyn looked surprised, but smiled.
"Thank you, Riddick." She whispered. Then she got up and went upstairs.
"Goodnight." She called from the top of the staircase. Riddick didn't
respond, he was smiling. She had just said thank you to him.
Carolyn woke up again to see darkness. She sighed.
"Can't I get any sleep." she sat up and yawned. Quietly, she walked over
to a clock. It was four-forty-five. She hadn't gotten hardly any sleep at
all. She decided to watch the sun rise, for something to pass the time.
She put on a pair of soft-soled shoes.
She slowly walked downstairs. In the kitchen, she stopped. Riddick was
asleep in the sitting room, and she'd have to go through the room to get
outside. Deciding to try it, she crept forward, trying to get her eyes used
to seeing in the blackness. She was about half way through the room when
she ran into something hard and big. She started to fall backwards, when
two massive arms wrapped around her waist and caught her. Not realizing who
or what she had run into, Fry started to struggle. The arms tightened their
grip and pulled her close to a heavily muscled body. She froze.
"Riddick." she whispered, barely audible. His breath brushed through her
hair.
"I heard you come down the stairs and I wanted to know where you were
going. You were headed toward the front door." Carolyn could barely hear
him; he was speaking softly and his voice sounded like thunder. She could
see his outline, but not his features.
His voice came again,
"So? Why were you going to the front door?" he asked. She could tell he
was thinking that she was trying to run away from him.
"I woke up again and I needed something to do so I figured
I'd watch the
sun come up." She tried to pull away from his grasp, but at her attempt to
break loose, his arms wrapped more tightly around her, bringing her even
closer.
"Really." he muttered. He sounded like he only half believed her.
"Yes really!" her voice was more firm, "It's the truth! I don't know why
you don't believe me." She sighed and stopped struggling against him,
realizing that he wasn't going to let go. Riddick was silent for a moment,
and then he drew Carolyn even closer yet, until there wasn't an inch in
between them. Carolyn didn't fight him. His head lowered and he whispered
in to her ear.
"I trust you." And he let go. Fry wasn't sure if he had moved out of the
way or not. She put her hand up, and when she didn't feel anything, she
walked through the room, and out the front door.
Out on the porch, she sat down on the steps. She didn't quite know what
Riddick had meant when he said he trusted her. He trusted her not to run
away? She couldn't think of how else he could mean it. But she wasn't
going to worry herself with it right then. Lifting her head, Carolyn waited
for the sun to come up.
Riddick was inside watching her from a window. He couldn't take his eyes
away from her. Truthfully, he had thought she was running away. Now, he
didn't quite know if she would or not. He hoped she wouldn't.
Looking at her out here, waiting on the sun to appear, Riddick was reminded
of things from that damned rock they had been marooned on. He thought back
to when he had been alone with Carolyn on the skiff. He had been so close
to her, smelled her hair, whispered in her ear. Then she had thought of him
as Slam city scum. He wasn't sure of what she thought of him now. Sure,
she was scared of him, but did she still take him for a cold-blooded killer?
Did she trust him? He didn't know. He got up and walked upstairs to take
a shower.
Carolyn watched the sun come up and stayed outside for a while. When she
came in, she heard water running and upon going upstairs, realized that
Riddick was in the shower. She kept walking until she was in the bedroom.
The water cut off after a few minutes, and Carolyn proceeded to get
undressed. She grabbed a robe and wrapped herself in it.
Riddick was out and downstairs when Carolyn went into the bathroom. She
stepped into the stall and turned the water on after she had dropped her
robe on the floor. Wanting to be quick, she shampooed her hair immediately.
She was about to wash her body when there was a knock on the door. She
froze.
"Uh.yeah?" she hesitated.
The door opened and Riddick's voice came,
"I left my shirt in here, can I get it?" Carolyn got a little nervous,
"Umm, there's no door or anything in front of the shower." she waited.
"I know," Riddick sounded amused. "I won't look, I promise."
Carolyn
sighed.
"I guess you can come in." she backed up into a corner of the stall. She
heard footsteps and Riddick appeared directly in front of the stall, his
back to her. His shirt was behind him. Carolyn cleared her throat.
"It's behind you."
"That means I'll have to turn around." and before Carolyn could respond,
Riddick spun around and bent down. Not sure if he had looked at her,
Carolyn dropped her hands to try to cover up. She knew she was blushing so
automatically she dropped her head. When she didn't hear Riddick walk out,
she looked up. He was staring directly at her, his eyes were covered by his
goggles, and that her frightened.
"Do you mind?" she demanded. Riddick grinned.
"Not at all, in fact, I'm quite enjoying myself." He didn't move. Carolyn
didn't know what to do. He laughed and walked away. Fry heard the door
shut. She exhaled deeply.
"God." she muttered and grabbed the body wash.
Guarded Trust (Part 6)
Half an hour later, Carolyn walked downstairs in a pair of black leather
pants and a red leather tank top. Her hair was dry and she felt refreshed.
Entering the kitchen, she saw Riddick sitting down at the table. He was
looking at her.
"Hey there, beautiful." He grinned. Carolyn frowned.
"You promised." She said.
"Yeah, well, couldn't help it." He chuckled, "So, you wanna go shopping for
that bathing suit?" he asked. Carolyn shifted uneasily.
"Uh." she looked down. Riddick stood up.
"Come on, I won't leave you this time. And I'll buy lunch." He held out
his hand, "Come on, Carolyn." She looked up at him and smiled.
"Alright." She took his hand. He walked her to the front door before he
let go of her hand.
Once outside, Riddick walked toward Carolyn until he was right beside her.
"You know, we should act like a couple, if you get me." He looked at her.
She nodded; it was only for protection. At seeing her consent, Riddick put
his arm around her waist and kept walking. Carolyn was a little surprised,
but counter acted by doing the same to him. Riddick was very surprised by
her action, but liked it, so he didn't say anything.
They reached the line of stores and Carolyn pointed to the one she had seen
before. They went in.
Inside, there were bathing suits everywhere and dressing rooms in the back.
Riddick and Carolyn separated, but Riddick kept a close watch on Carolyn.
She went to her section, as did he. Riddick had soon picked out a pair of
black swim trunks. He didn't try them on, but went straight to the register
to pay. He handed the cashier the trunks and turned around to find Carolyn.
She was looking through some bikinis. Riddick was about to turn around
when a man walked up to Carolyn and said something, then licked his lips.
Carolyn looked scared and backed up, the man followed.
"Hold on." Riddick said to the cashier. He walked over to Carolyn and
wrapped his giant arms around her.
The man started to protest, and Riddick
leaned close to Carolyn and whispered,
"Let me." and he kissed her. Just a peck at first, but when Carolyn caught
on and got more comfortable, he opened her mouth with his tongue. She
reacted in a good way. Her hands went around his body and to his back.
They slid down is body and she grabbed his ass. His tongue snaked around
inside her mouth. She squeezed him again and he pulled back. He stepped to
the side and smiled.
"Baby, who's this guy?" The man's jaw dropped and he turned around and
walked out of the stare. Riddick smiled and Carolyn laughed. She looked up
at Riddick.
"Thanks."
"No problem, baby. Guess you're just too irresistible for any guy." He
grinned and walked back to the cashier.
Carolyn blushed and turned back to
the suits. She was still smiling. She had liked the kiss.
Carolyn picked a bikini and Riddick paid for it. They walked out of the
store.
"Where do you want to eat?" Riddick asked. Carolyn looked around.
"How about that Glubian diner? Glubian food is really good." Riddick
nodded.
"Alright." They walked to the diner and went inside. A young Glubian male
walked up to them and took their orders. While waiting for their food,
Carolyn brought up the kiss; she was in a playful mood.
"So.that was interesting." Riddick looked confused.
"What was?"
"What happened in the store." She smiled. He smiled back.
"Interesting? Well, that's not what I'd call it." He dropped off. Carolyn
sat up.
"Then what would you call it?"
"Hmm.I'll tell you later. Our food is here." The Glubian waiter was back.
He sat their food down and walked off. The two ate in silence. When they
were done, Riddick paid for it.
"Ready?" he asked as he picked the bag his swim trunks were in. Carolyn
picked her bag up and nodded. They walked back to their apartment slowly.
Riddick held the door open for Carolyn. Once inside, Carolyn turned to face
Riddick and said,
"Wanna get in the tub?" and she smiled.
"Sure." He replied.
"Alright, I'll see you in there!" and she walked upstairs into the
bathroom. Riddick followed, but changed in the bedroom. He turned the hot
tub on and gave it a few minutes to heat up. When he thought it was ready,
he stepped into it and sat down. He leaned his head back and sighed. Then
he heard a cough. He looked toward the door and his breath caught in his
chest.
Carolyn stood in the doorway in her new bikini. It was black, and barely
held together with small strings. It barely covered her up. She was
smiling. Riddick had to control himself, which was hard for him to do.
Carolyn walked toward the hot tub, her curves showing and her muscles
tensing slightly. Slowly and gracefully, she climbed in to the tub and sat
down across from Riddick.
"You look good in that suit." Riddick said casually.
"Thank you," Carolyn smiled, "you don't look too bad in those trunks." She
studied him over, his huge muscles glistening in the steamy water. She
shifted. Riddick was looking directly at her, but she couldn't tell exactly
where he was looking because of the goggles. Fry stood up and stepped out
of the hot tub.
"Where are you going?" Riddick asked. Fry didn't answer, but walked across
the room and turned the lights off. Then, she walked back and drew all of
the curtains shut. It was dark in the room, but Carolyn could still see a
little bit. She made it back into the tub without tripping on anything.
She sat back down and looked at Riddick. He had a puzzled look on his face.
"What was all that about?" he tried not to smile.
"Take your goggles off." Carolyn said. He smiled.
"I don't know if I want to, they have their advantages."
"Yeah, like I can't see where you're looking," she smiled.
Riddick nodded.
"That's right." And, unknown to her, he looked her up and down. He
grinned.
"Stop!" Carolyn laughed, "Take them off!" She playfully drew her legs up
and crossed her arms over her chest. Riddick shrugged and took the goggles
off.
"Better?" he asked.
"Yes, thank you." She replied sarcastically. She relaxed again. Riddick
went back to staring. Her eyes widened.
"They don't keep me from looking, you know." He said.
Carolyn laughed.
"I'm gonna go get a drink, want one?" Carolyn asked.
"Yeah sure, uh, a Baldian beer, thanks." Riddick said. He watched her as
she walked out of the room. A few minutes passed and she was back, carrying
two drinks. She handed Riddick one.
"Thanks." He said. Quickly he set it down before Carolyn could sit down.
She got in the tub and he grabbed her wrist and pulled her toward him. She
pulled back.
"Riddick..." She warned.
"Just sit by me." He stopped pulling and looked at her. She hesitated.
"In a minute." She said. He let go.
"Alright." He shrugged. Fry sat down across from him again. She was
quickly done with her drink, so Riddick went and got her a bigger one.
It continued on that way until Riddick could tell that Carolyn was tipsy.
Not drunk, but relaxed. He seized the opportunity and slid over to her.
She looked at him, confused.
"What are you doing?" she tilted her head so she could look at him.
"Getting closer." He said and he put an arm around her waist. She pulled
back slightly.
"Don't. I'm not drunk Riddick." She grumbled.
"I know," he got closer, "I just want to be close to you." He wrapped his
other arm around her and held her tight. Not sensing any danger, Carolyn
relaxed again. She even went so far as to put her head on his shoulder. He
was surprised and she could tell he was. She smiled.
"Want me to move?" Riddick got startled.
"No." he tightened his grip even more, "I could stay like this forever."
After saying that, he bent his head and ever so gently kissed her on her
cheek. She slid up closer to him. They stayed like that for hours.
The next few days went calmly. Neither of the two did much besides hang
around the ROLA. There were a few shared hot tubs, but not many, as Carolyn
was a little scared to do it. Both of them did some shopping, the other one
always tagging along. There were no fights, no uncomfortable experiences.
The two were doing fine.
Then one day, Carolyn wanted to go clothes shopping. Riddick had no
problem with it, and the two had soon found a store to look around in.
Riddick was in his section as usual, but he was blocked from watching
Carolyn by a wall. He wasn't too worried about it; they hadn't had any
trouble, so he kept browsing. He heard the door open, but thought nothing
of it. When he was done looking, he went back to see if Carolyn was ready.
Walking around the wall, he could not see Carolyn. After searching the
entire store, Riddick began to panic. He walked up to the cashier and asked
about Carolyn.
"She went out with some other guy. Looked like he was practically dragging
her out." Riddick thanked him hastily and sprinted out the store.
He stopped outside. Looking in both directions, he could not see anything
that would show which way Carolyn was taken. He turned left and suddenly a
scream echoed from behind him. He turned around and started running. Every
back street he passed was empty. After running for what seemed like miles,
he came upon a dark street. Standing at the entrance, he pulled his goggles
off. At the very end of the short street, Carolyn was curled up in a ball
on the ground. She was on her side. A big man stood over her, holding a
knife. Carolyn's shirt was ripped and she was crying.
Riddick felt a pang of fear and anger run through his body. He started
running without thinking about it. He was soon upon the man and Carolyn.
The young man turned the knife on Riddick and positioned himself between
Riddick and Carolyn. Though she was blocked from Riddick's grasp, Carolyn
looked up and reached for him. She was gagged and there was a bruise on her
right cheek.
Seeing this angered Riddick even more. He snarled at the man, who simply
smiled.
"Hi there friend," he started, not talking in a pleasant tone, "could we
have some privacy?" he shook the knife. Riddick took a step toward him.
"Fuck you." He growled.
The man smiled again.
"Actually, I'm gonna fuck her." Riddick lunged at him.
"Like hell you are mother fucker." He tackled the man. The two hit the
ground and the impact knocked the knife from the man's hand. Riddick sat up
and punched the man in the face repeatedly. The man kicked and struggled,
but didn't get very far with it. Riddick moved one of his legs to pin the
man's down. In the process of doing so, Riddick was slightly distracted.
Seizing the opportunity, the man hit Riddick right in the jaw. While
Riddick was recovering, the man managed to squeeze out from under Riddick's
massive body. Standing up, Riddick spit blood and backed up.
The man went to Carolyn's side and gripped her hair. Removing her gag, he
lifted her head and kissed her roughly. When he finished, Carolyn screamed
and Riddick stood up. He looked around on the ground and soon found the
man's knife. Rushing over to it at the same time the man did, Riddick
picked it up first. At seeing this, the man turned to run, but only got a
few steps before Riddick sunk the knife into his back. The man screamed in
pain and fell to the ground. He tried to reach around and pull the knife
out, but could not reach it. He struggled to get up as Riddick approached
him.
"Please! Don't kill me!" he pleaded.
Riddick kept a stern face and
replied,
"Did you listen when she pleaded with you?" The man's eyes grew with his
fear. Again, he tried to scramble away. Riddick grabbed the knife from his
back and swung it again. It found home in the man's back, right below his
shoulders. There was a howl and then silence. The man's body twitched with
muscle spasms. Blood pooled out from the two wounds.
"Sweet spot." Riddick said gruffly, and he dropped the knife. He turned
around to face Carolyn. She was staring at the dead body. Her own body
shook uncontrollably, her lip trembled and she was still crying.
"Oh my God, oh my God.." She whispered.
"Carolyn," Riddick took a step toward her. She jerked her head up to look
at him. As her eyes grew larger, she stood up and backed away from him,
like a trapped, frightened animal.
"You killed him, I was right here. I was looking right at him." she was
still whispering. Seeing the murder had horrified her and Riddick knew it.
He wished he had never done it.
"Carolyn." he repeated and walked toward her. She looked around her and
upon seeing the opening of the street, started running toward it.
"Shit." Riddick said under his breath as he chased after her. She was hurt
and terrified, so it was easy for Riddick to catch up with her. He cut
around in front of her to face her. She yelped and started to turn, but
Riddick caught her wrist and yanked her body to his. He held her close and
at first she hit him weakly on the chest. After her pain and fear sunk in,
she stopped struggling and clutched at his body, pulling herself even closer
to him. She sobbed onto his shoulder and her tears soaked his shirt. He
pulled back to look her in the face. His hand reached up and touched her
cheek.
"I'm sorry." He whispered. Carolyn didn't respond, but nuzzled up against
his body. He held her close and picked her up. Slowly, he made his way
back to the ROLA.
Once back at the living apartment, Riddick put bandages on the small cuts
Carolyn had. She had been extremely quiet and when he finished, she had
gotten up and gone upstairs, without saying a word.
Riddick now sat in the kitchen, his head in his hands. He knew he had
scared her. And what if she tried running away again? It was a good
possibility that she would. He stood up and walked up the stairs. It was
dark outside, and the hall was dark enough that Riddick could take his
goggles off. A thunderstorm was approaching and lightning flashed,
illuminating the hall for a brief moment. Riddick reached the bedroom, only
to find the door shut. Not wanting to disturb Carolyn, he sighed and went
back downstairs to try to get some sleep.
It was one o'clock and Riddick was still wide-awake. He lay on the couch,
one arm over his face. A door opened upstairs, and he sat up. The
thunderstorm was upon them. Rain fell lightly on the roof, thunder rumbled
and lighting gave split-second flashes of light. Riddick slowly stood up
and walked to the base of the stairs. A door shut upstairs, and he could
still hear quiet sobbing. He walked up the stairs and down the hall to
stand in front of the bedroom door. Carolyn was crying softly. He pushed
the door open and stepped inside.
His metallic eyes found Carolyn lying on her side on the bed, the sheet
pulled up to her chin. She stared at Riddick for a moment. That was all it
took. He walked over to the other side of the bed and climbed in under the
sheets. Carolyn turned over. Tears streamed down her face. Riddick
reached out and wiped her tears away.
"Riddick." she whimpered and slid over to him. She laid back down, her
back to him. He slid an arm up her thigh and around her waist. He moved
his head close to hers.
"I'm here." He whispered back. Carolyn sighed and closed her eyes.
Riddick stayed awake until he was sure she was asleep. Then he drifted off,
still holding her.
Guarded Trust (Part 7)
The next morning, Carolyn woke up to find Riddick still gripping her waist,
gently. Still sleepy, she didn't move. Then the memories of the previous
days' events filled her head. Uncontrollably, her body jerked with fear.
She gripped the sheets until her knuckles turned white and squeezed her eyes
shut.
Her body movement made Riddick wake up. He sensed her uneasiness.
"Hey, you ok?" his voice rumbled.
"I don't know." She mumbled. He sighed.
"Look, I know I scared you real bad yesterday. But you gotta understand
that I was protecting you and acting in my own self-defense. And I'd never
hurt you, Carolyn. I've told you that before." Carolyn sat up and turned
her body so she could look at Riddick.
"How can I be so sure of that? You haven't exactly been the most
trustworthy person." She spat out with tears in her eyes. Before Riddick
could answer, Carolyn got out of the bed and walked out of the room.
Riddick covered his eyes with his hand. He moaned and got out of the bed to
follow Carolyn.
Down the hall, he found the bathroom door locked. He knocked.
"Carolyn." He heard her moving.
"Go away." She said harshly. Riddick grabbed a hold of the doorknob and
rattled it.
"Carolyn." He raised his voice. She replied quickly.
"You can't answer my question, so just leave me alone!" her voice was
shrill. Riddick backed up to the other side of the hall and paused for a
moment. Then he lunged at the door, knocking into it with his shoulder. It
broke easily and Carolyn screamed. Riddick walked straight up to her,
pinning her body between the wall and his body.
"Get off me!" she yelled.
"You want me to answer you?" he demanded. Carolyn only looked up at him
through her bangs.
"Here's my answer." Riddick grabbed her waist roughly and with his other
hand, he tilted her head up towards his. Pausing for a moment to study her
face, he only saw anxiousness. He bent his head and his lips met hers.
At first, he kissed her slowly and gently, but when she kissed back, he
became more rough with it. He forced his tongue between her lips and moved
his hands over her body. They found home wrapped around her waist. He
pulled back and swept the hair out of her face. She tilted her head back
and exhaled. Her arms wrapped around Riddick's neck and he began to kiss
her neck and shoulders. His hand reached up and around to her front. His
eyes looked straight into hers as he unbuttoned her top button. She bit her
bottom lip, begging him to go on without saying a word. Suddenly, he
stopped. Carolyn looked confused and then surprised as he quickly picked
her up and carried her back to the bedroom. He laid her down on the bed
softly and climbed on top of her, straddling her hips.
He bent down and kissed her again. She moaned and sucked on his lip. His
hands smoothly unbuttoned the rest of her shirt and slid it off. Riddick
then sat up and looked at her.
"Mmm." she groaned, her eyes closed. His large hands roamed over her
breasts and down to her hips to remove her pants. She arched her back,
wanting to speed things up. Riddick threw the pants off the bed and bent
down to kiss her stomach. His mouth moved down her body until it came to
her panties. He then moved up to cover her mouth with is as his hand ripped
her panties off. She clutched at his back, her fingernails digging into his
skin. He groaned and slid his own hand up her inner thigh and to the cleft
of skin between her legs. He rubbed gently at first, but when she moved her
body to urge him on, he slid his fingers into her. She straightened her
arms out on either side of her and gripped the sheets. She gasped.
Riddicks fingers slowly moved in and out of her. She felt tight and wet.
He drove his fingers further up into her. His penis was now fully erect and
he knew he could not hold it too much longer. Carolyn sensed it too, and
she sat up to pin him down. He let her push him back and get on top of him.
She sucked his lip and grabbed his boxers, pulling them off. He took over
and kicked them off the bed.
They rolled over and Carolyn gave into him, letting him do everything. He
pushed her legs apart and pushed himself in between them. Just as he did,
Carolyn shrieked and Riddick stopped. She propped herself up on her elbows
and looked at Riddick.
"What?" he asked. She rubbed her forehead.
"I don't want to get pregnant." She muttered. Riddicks lips formed a line
and he climbed off of her.
"Alright." he sighed. Picking up his boxers, he looked back at her. She
was holding her head as though it hurt.
"Damn." She whispered. Riddick pulled the boxers on and walked out of the
room. Carolyn watched him leave, her brow wrinkled with thought. 'Oh well,
it's for the best.' She said to herself. But she wasn't convinced. She
picked up her torn shirt and threw it in the trash shoot. It was ruined,
and it held too many horrible memories. She grabbed her robe and headed
toward the shower.
Downstairs in the kitchen, Riddick heard the water come on. He reached for
a napkin and grabbed a pen. After scribbling a brief message down, he
quickly got dressed in the sitting room. He buckled his belt and walked out
the front door.
Carolyn came down stairs hesitantly. At the bottom, she peered around the
corner. Not seeing Riddick, she crept into the kitchen. She punched a code
into the auto-chef nervously and turned around to look for Riddick again
while she waited. Turning toward the table, she saw Riddick's note. The
auto-chef beeped, but Fry ignored it and walked over to the table. She
picked the napkin up and read the message:
Carolyn
Went out. Don't leave the house, I didn't take the key.
Riddick
Fry rolled her eyes and balled the note up in her fist. She walked back to
the auto-chef and took her food out. Walking into the sitting room, she
turned the ad-screen on. She sat down on the couch and ate her food, only
half paying attention to the planet info-screen.
When she finished eating, she set the plate down on the table and lay down
on the couch. She breathed in deeply, and was overcome with Riddick's
scent. Covering herself with his blanket, she inhaled deeply again. There
was a sort of comfort for her in Riddick's smell. She was soon asleep.
Riddick was out walking. He had so much on his mind. At least now he knew
Carolyn was attracted to him, or at least was comfortable with him. But on
the other hand, what if her need to trust somebody just carried her away?
Or if she was carried away by her fear and need to feel secure? Or maybe
just by the moment even. Riddick's thoughts collided and argued within
themselves.
He was walking down a main route when a light drizzle fell down on him. He
snorted. Turning towards the Star Gazer, he noticed two hookers across the
street. They smiled and waved. Riddick glared at them and kept walking.
"Hey there, muscle man!" one called out. Riddick shot them an annoyed
glance and stuck his middle finger up toward them. One girl gasped and
became cross, while the other laughed.
"Maybe he's married." He heard one of them suggest. Looking down at the
ground, he pushed them out of his mind and crossed the courtyard of the Star
Gazer. He walked to his and Carolyn's apartment.
On the front porch, he paused. He wondered what Carolyn was doing. If she
was angry or worried. He'd find out soon enough. Wiping the rain off his
face, he opened the door and walked inside. There were no lights on. He
walked into the sitting room, shedding his wet shirt as he moved. Coming
around to face the front of the couch, he stopped. Carolyn was stretched
out, asleep, under his blanket. He watched her as her chest rose and fell
with each breath she took.
She moved her head and her hair fell into her
face. Riddick stepped forward and leaned over. Gently, he brushed the hair
back. Carolyn stirred at his touch and sighed. For a moment, Riddick
thought he'd awakened her, but was reassured when her eyes didn't open.
His stomach growled and Riddick realized he hadn't had much to eat lately.
He walked into the kitchen and over to the auto-chef. The buttons beeped
loudly and Riddick could hear Carolyn stirring in the next room.
A few
minutes passed and she came sleepily into the kitchen. Her eyes avoided
Riddick, but his followed her every movement as she walked past him and up
the stairs. Riddick wanted to follow her, but knew that would be a mistake.
He only ate half of his food, dumping the remains into the trash-shoot. He
walked back into the sitting room and took his goggles off. Knowing that he
wouldn't get much sleep, he sat beside a window and watched the city.
Carolyn hadn't been able to get to sleep after she was awakened by
Riddick's return. Her mind was reeling. So what if she did get pregnant?
No, she couldn't handle that, she had never wanted kids and she couldn't
picture Riddick raising a child. She could convince him to use
protection.but even that had its risks. She hated the idea of abortion,
that was out of the question.
In the back of her mind, a little voice pushed itself upon her until she
couldn't avoid listening to it. What if Riddick didn't even want her
anymore? After the abrupt stop she had caused, she wouldn't blame him if he
didn't try again. He must think she was stuck up or something. It wasn't
like he really cared about her anyway. Although, he had protected her and
saved her many times. Even risked his life. But he might just want to get
her in bed and then leave her again. She shook her head. If that were how
he felt, he wouldn't have been so kind and gentle with her. Unless it was
an act.
Carolyn sighed heavily and went to the bathroom. She splashed cold water
on her face and dried it off. A thought popped into her head and she paused
in the doorway. Why was she so concerned over it? The idea of her feeling
something for Riddick had never come up. Now that it had, she wasn't sure
of the answer. A few weeks ago, she would have said no immediately. But
now things were different. Continuing on her way back to the bedroom, Fry
tried to convince herself that it was just a physical attraction. But she
knew there was more to it. Like it or not, she realized that she now
trusted him. He had saved her more than once, and that was more than a
simple basis for trust. Carolyn could see herself with Riddick. She might
not love him yet, but she was intrigued by him, was comfortable around him
most of the time, attracted physically and in some ways emotionally to him.
She trusted him and was aroused by him.
It was when this realization hit her that she decided on a plan of action.
She crawled into bed and now that she had the answer, fell asleep.
The next morning, Carolyn was still a little uncomfortable around Riddick.
She ate her breakfast upstairs, while Riddick remained in the kitchen.
Neither had spoken a word to the other. Riddick didn't know what to say at
all, and Carolyn was too busy working out the details of her plan.
She was upstairs, sitting on her bed, with an empty bowl in her hands. Her
idea was almost ready, but she was trying to figure out when to do it.
Riddick wouldn't like her doing it, she knew that much for sure. But he'd
have to deal with it, if he really cared about her. She'd just have to
convince him of that. It wouldn't be easy.
The rest of the day went slowly, and silently. Riddick stayed downstairs
most of the day, watching the ad-screen. Carolyn was upstairs thinking and
sleeping most of the time, only coming down when she was hungry. Riddick
only went upstairs when he had to go to the bathroom.
At last, dusk came, and Carolyn began to get ready. She dressed in
comfortable clothes, sweat pants and a tee shirt. She pulled her hair up
loosely and pulled on walking shoes. She headed downstairs.
In the kitchen, she listened for some clue as to where Riddick was. She
heard the ad-screen still playing, and walked casually into the sitting
room.
"Riddick?" she said softly. Despite her quietness, Riddick sat up
immediately and looked shocked. Probably because she was actually talking
to him.
"Yeah?" he said.
"Um.can I borrow your gun?" Riddick's eyebrows raised.
"Why?"
"Er, uh, well, I just need it." She shifted uncomfortably. Riddick eyed
her, suspiciously. Slowly, he got up and picked up his bag. He fished
around in it briefly, and pulled out the gun. He walked over to her and
held it out. She reached out for it, but before she could take it, he
grabbed her wrist, twirled her around, and held her close to his chest, her
arm crossed over her front. She struggled slightly.
"Why the hell do you want it?" Riddick said. His tone wasn't threatening,
just curious.
"I just do!" Carolyn tried to get away from him. Her back was to his
chest, so she had a difficult time doing anything. Riddick tightened his
grip around her waist.
"Are you going somewhere?"
"Yes." She said quickly.
"Where?"
"Somewhere!" Riddick was getting tired of her answers that weren't getting
him anywhere. He took a hold of her hip and spun her around to face him.
"Where?" he said with more force in his voice. Carolyn tried to pull away
and raised her voice,
"Why the hell do you have to know every single thing that I do? When you
just left me here, did I ask where you had been? No! I don't see why I
have to tell you every thing that I do!" she slapped his chest, not hard,
but enough to show her frustration. Riddick looked at her for a moment.
"Alright." He grumbled. Shoving the gun into her hand, he released her and
backed up. Carolyn sighed.
"Thank you." She mumbled and quickly walked through the front hall and out
the door. Riddick sat down at the window, and watched her walk away from
the apartment.
Guarded Trust (Part8)
Carolyn walked quickly, so that Riddick would not follow her. At least,
she hoped he wouldn't. She didn't hear him come out the door behind her;
but then again, she had never heard him sneak up on her before. She turned
around a corner, and stopped. She peeked around the corner.nobody was
there. Not that she could she. She sighed and kept walking.
Carolyn didn't really know her way around any of the planet, besides the
line of shops she had visited with Riddick. So she headed to the bathing
suit shop. She handled the gun in her pocket uneasily. Coming up on the
door to the shop, she again checked behind her nervously. Upon seeing
nothing, she pushed the door open and walked in.
There wasn't anybody in the shop, besides the cashier. She walked up to
him.
"Excuse me, could you help me?" she asked. The man smiled.
"Maybe, I suppose it depends on what you need help with." He said in a
friendly tone. Carolyn was relieved.
"Um, where is the nearest operating med-lab?" she looked at him. He looked
a little shocked.
"Are you alright? Do you need help?" he walked around the counter to her
side. His eyes checked her over.
"Oh, I'm fine, thank you. I just need to ask the med-techs something. And
I don't know my way around this planet." She smiled. The man smiled back.
"Alright, just checking. Sure, the nearest operating med-lab would be.."
He paused, in thought, "Med-lab 47-O, I think."
"Ok, um, could you tell me how to get there?" Carolyn asked. The man
smiled warmly at her.
"I could take you there, if you wanted. I've got a transport out back, I'm
sure you'd rather ride than walk." He motioned to a back door. Carolyn
looked at it hesitantly. She seemed edgy. The man stuck out his hand.
"My name's Mark. And don't worry, I won't hurt you or anything." He
laughed. Carolyn took his hand and shook it. Something in his voice made
her believe him.
"Carolyn." She smiled. He nodded and led her to the back door.
"Just let me lock up." He motioned for her to go ahead and board the
transport. She walked toward it and heard Mark lock the door behind her.
"Ok, then, ready?" he asked, jogging up to meet her. She nodded and
climbed in the transport. Mark boarded and punched some buttons to set a
coarse for the address. When he was done, he joined Carolyn in the small
riding quarters. He took a seat across from her.
"So, how long have you been on Star Field?" he asked.
"Not long, maybe a week or two. I haven't really kept track." She blushed.
Mark laughed.
"Yeah, not many people do on pleasure planets. Me, I've lived here for
most of my life. I was born on Galvan Heights, and came here when I was
fifteen."
"Do you like it here?" Carolyn asked.
"It's alright, I think there should be more laws here. I see and hear
about a lot of rapes and murders. But what can you do? The lawmakers
aren't exactly the most caring aliens." He chuckled. Carolyn smiled. The
transport shuddered. Mark looked out a window.
"We're here." He said, turning to face Carolyn again.
"Already?" she looked surprised.
Mark laughed,
"Yeah, you wanted the most nearby one, right?"
Carolyn blushed,
"Yeah." Mark got up and opened a hatch. He walked down the steps,
followed by Carolyn.
"Anything else I can do for you, Carolyn?" he said. Carolyn looked around,
"No, I think I can handle it from here. Thank you so much, though."
She
walked toward him, her hand outstretched. Mark took it and shook it slowly.
"Alright, good luck with.whatever you're doing here!" he smiled. Carolyn
thanked him again and walked toward the doors of the med-lab. She heard
Mark ride off in the transport.
Entering the med-lab, she could see there wasn't much going on. Med-techs
stood around talking and eating. One approached her.
"Yes?" Carolyn looked at the young woman shyly.
"Um, I need a fertility operation." She said quietly. The woman nodded.
"Alright. When?"
"As soon as possible." Carolyn looked around. The woman motioned towards
the med-techs standing around.
"Well, as you can see, we're not exactly busy, so we could do it right now.
It won't take long, maybe fifteen minutes." Carolyn's eyes brightened.
"That's fine with me, but I don't have any cash credits with me." The
woman smiled.
"That's alright, we have a credit plan. You have twenty-four hours to pay,
or you'll be arrested. We just have to get some information on you, of
course." Carolyn sighed with relief.
"Ok then, I'm ready." The med-tech led her to a desk and sat down in front
of a computer. She asked for Carolyn's name, place of living, and length of
stay on the planet, just basic information. Carolyn gave all of the answers
quickly.
"Ok, now, I won't be doing the operation on you, but I know who will. Her
name is Jennine. She's very good. I am assuming you want to have the
"No-kids" operation. I think that's what they call it." The woman rolled
her eyes and smiled. Carolyn nodded.
"Well, I'll take you to the room, and Jennine will be in there in a moment,
ok?" Carolyn nodded and followed the girl down a hallway and into a small
room.
"Take a seat, Jennine will be here briefly." And the med-tech was gone.
Carolyn sat down on the operating platform. She hadn't sat long when a
young human woman walked in.
"I'm Jennine." She smiled. Carolyn smiled back.
"Hi." She said nervously.
"Alright, let's get down to business. You want the "No-kids" operation.
It'll take approximately fifteen minutes, in which you'll lie down on that
platform while this machine," she patted a large, rectangular contraption,
"will be positioned over you. It will do the operation, no cuts, no
stitches, no nothing. During the operation, your fertility eggs will be hit
with neothuric rays, which will sterilize them. And then, no kids." She
shrugged.
"Now, you can have the reversal operation if you decide to have kids later
on." Carolyn nodded.
"Um, what are neothuric rays?" she asked shyly. Jennine nodded and smiled,
"Most women ask that. To sum it up, they're just a new operating aid for
this particular surgery. They won't hurt, it's sort of like Earth's
radiation therapy." Carolyn nodded.
"Alright, then, let's get started." She said. Jennine nodded.
"Just lie down. I'll do the rest. You'll be awake for the entire time,
though. Ok?" Carolyn nodded as she lay down. Jennine positioned the
contraption above Carolyn. It covered her entire length.
"Relax. This won't hurt at all; it won't even be loud. You'll just lie
there." Jennine said. Carolyn took a deep breath. Lights appeared on the
bottom of the box, in a circle over Carolyn's uterus. The machine beeped
softly. Carolyn relaxed. She thought of Riddick.
Before she knew it, Jennine's voice came; telling her it was over.
"There shouldn't be any side effects. You won't get sick, and if you do,
just take sick pills." She smiled, "There is a catch, however. You cannot
engage in sexual intercourse for three days. It could hurt you physically.
Alright?" she held her hand out to help Carolyn off the table.
"Thank you so much." Carolyn smiled, "Can I deposit the cash credits into
an account instead of coming back?"
"Oh sure," Jennine said, "just type in OP MED-LAB 47-O when you deposit it.
It's going to be, uh, seventy-five credits even. Alright?" she began to
walk towards the door. Carolyn spoke up quickly.
"How do I get back to the ROLA Star Gazer from here?" she asked. Jennine
motioned for her to follow her. They went out the doors of the med-lab.
Jennine pointed down a street,
"Just follow the main street. It'll lead you right back to the ROLA after
about a mile and a quarter. "Have fun!" she smiled and went back inside.
"Thanks." Carolyn said. She started walking down the street.
She arrived outside the registration building after only a little while.
She paused. What if Riddick didn't even want to try again? She would have
just wasted seventy-five credits on nothing. Was she even really ready for
Riddick to go ahead and take her? She was a virgin. Supposed to be saving
herself for marriage. But there was something about Riddick that told her
she was ready for him. She couldn't put her finger on it, but it was there.
She sighed and stuck her hands in her pockets and started walking toward the
apartment where Riddick would be waiting.
Riddick was still sitting in the window, watching. It had only been about
an hour or so since Carolyn had left. He hadn't moved a single time since
she had walked out the door. He had wanted to follow her, but her words had
told him it was time to trust her, instead of the other way around.
His eyes scanned all possible entryways back to their apartment. He didn't
see anything. Then, from behind the registration building, Carolyn's small
frame appeared, walking slowly. He stood up. He wanted to run to her and
take her in his arms. To tell her he was sorry and make sure that she was
alright. But he didn't, he couldn't. She was probably mad at him or upset
or something. He stayed where he was.
Carolyn's body got closer to the apartment, and Riddick could see her
hesitate once she stood at the base of the porch steps. He got anxious, but
was relieved when she walked to the door. After that, he couldn't see her
anymore, but heard her open the door and walk through the hall. He went to
the doorway to meet her.
She looked startled to see him.
"Are you alright?" he asked, trying to sound unconcerned. Fry nodded. She
tried to walk past him, but he moved to block her path. She stopped.
Riddick took his goggles off and looked her over. She was staring at the
floor.
"What's wrong?" he asked, this time sounding concerned, whether he liked it
or not. Carolyn looked up.
"Nothing." She said bluntly. Again, she tried to walk past him. This time
Riddick put an arm up and caught her by the shoulder.
"Seriously Carolyn." He said softly.
She looked up at him and repeated,
"Nothing." And she brushed his hand off and walked past.
"Here's your gun." She said, tossing the object onto the couch. Then she
was gone; he could hear her walking up the stairs. He went to the couch and
picked the gun up. He checked the number of bullets. All of them were
still there. He looked toward the kitchen, but sat down on the couch. He
sighed.
The next morning, Carolyn didn't come downstairs. Riddick was really
worried about her. Noon rolled around and he still hadn't heard her moving
around. He went up the stairs.
He came to a closed bedroom door and knocked.
"Yeah." Carolyn said. Riddick opened the door and looked in, before
stepping inside.
"You alright?" he asked. Carolyn was sitting on the bed, looking out a
window. She nodded and smiled. He was a little reassured.
"You haven't been downstairs." He stated.
"I know." Fry said. She stared at him for a moment, then turned back to
the window. Riddick crossed the room to stand in front of her. She looked
up to meet his hidden eyes.
"Where'd you go last night?" he asked.
"Where are my cash credits?" she asked him, ignoring his question. Riddick
raised his eyebrows.
"In my bag." He said. Carolyn nodded and stood up. She walked right past
him and out the door. Riddick heard her go downstairs. He followed her.
When he entered the sitting room, Carolyn had her small bag of credits and
was fishing through it.
"What are you doing?" he asked, approaching her. She had a handful of
credits and wasn't paying any attention to him. She stood up and walked
right past him.
"I'll be right back." She called over her shoulder, and walked out the
front door. Riddick stood in the same place, and looked at the front door,
in shock of how abruptly Carolyn had left. He walked to the window and
watched Carolyn walk across the courtyard to the registration building. She
turned around a corner and Riddick lost sight of her. In a moment, however,
she returned to his view. Her hands were empty, where the credits used to
be. She stepped onto the front porch and came inside. Riddick walked and
stood in the hallway, blocking her route.
"Move." She said, her voice trembled, even though she was trying to be
tough.
"No." Riddick grunted. He crossed his arms across his chest. Carolyn
sighed.
"Please move." She said softly. She looked him in the eyes, even though
his were covered. He shook his head and moved his arms to hold her
shoulders. He rubbed them gently.
"Just tell me what's going on, Carolyn." His face was stern and his voice
serious. Carolyn looked up at him.
"Not now." She shrugged his hands off of her body and stepped to the side,
trying to move around him. Riddick mirrored her, preventing her from
getting anywhere.
"Yes now." He said. Carolyn looked at him through her bangs. She shook
her head and turned to walk back out the front door. Riddick grabbed her
hand and twirled her roughly back to face him. Her face showed her pain.
"Ow!" she cried out. She wrinkled her brow and looked at him crossly.
"What's your problem?" she asked.
"The fact that you won't tell me what the hell is going on with you, and I
want to know." His hand gripped hers tightly, to the point that she wriggled
to get away from him.
"Tell me!" he demanded. Carolyn started to get scared, she could tell that
he was getting angry. Once again, she tried to pull her hand out of his.
This made him even more mad, and he grabbed her other arm and held both
tightly. She whimpered in pain.
"Don't try to get away from me, just answer me." He growled and yanked on
her arms. Tears welled up in her eyes.
"You're hurting me!" she cried. Her words seemed to have no effect on
Riddick. His face was as stern as before, if not sterner. He raised his
voice to a yell,
"Tell me!" And he pulled her across the room and threw her down on the
couch. She wailed as she fell down. Riddick got on top of her, so she
could not get up.
"Tell me!" he repeated. Carolyn nodded through her tears.
"Alright!" she cried out. Her hands were shaking, and her voice trembled.
"Where were you?" he demanded.
"An operating med-lab." Carolyn replied quickly.
"Why?" his voice raised even more, his anger clearly growing. Carolyn
cried even more at this, but managed to answer through her sobs,
"I was getting a fertility operation." Riddick barely understood her, she
was crying so hard. He was clearly shocked at her answer.
"What?" his voice softened, but only a little.
"I was getting a fertility operation, so that I could have sex and not get
pregnant." She confessed. Her whole body shivered with fear and tears
soaked her shirts' collar. Riddick got up off of her and pulled her off the
couch.
"Why? I mean." his voice was quiet now.
Carolyn shrugged,
"That time you tried, but I stopped you.I felt bad about it and I
realized." she looked at the floor and rubbed her arms where Riddick had
been gripping her.
"What? You realized what?" he pressed. Carolyn looked at him, her tears
calming down, but still shaking.
"That I wanted you to." Riddick raised his eyebrows. He stepped forward to
try to hold Carolyn, but she stepped back, obviously unsure of his touch.
His eyes held sadness in them.
