From: Benedicte Sent: Thursday, September 20, 2001 1:31 PM To: globalcooling@pstcomputers.com Subject: parking and solar system Good morning Stephan, This morning there was a conference entitled "Global Energy conference: Problems and Solutions". During this conference Ms. Mary Tucker (Action PLan Green Building Task force, San Jose Government) showed us some public parking in San Jose that had solar system on the top of the roof which allow electric car to recharge their battery with the light from the sun. The parking is very simple, it is only some solar panel who protect the cars from the sun and take energy from the sun to give it to electric cars. I thought it could be interesting for your project! RE: Shuttles A comment by a resident of San Diego The City operates shuttles during the weekend to bring peolpe to special events in the city's zoo and other main parks, such as Balboa Park. There's also a robust traffic acros the border, so many people take the train to the border and then walk across to shop. There are buses and trolleys that run to the border so mass transit makes a lot of sense. Park and ride lots are used by shoppers and then they get on buses Carole Schatz, cbschatz@webtv.net |
Steve, I don't think we want the focus to only be on Ft. Lauderdale and the downtown area. We want to look at all of Broward County's cities and find out if all of the parking and paving is necessary. Does the availability of parking encourage people to drive more? Will a reduction in parking availability make people use mass transit or other alternatives? Keep this in mind when creating the proposal.
