We started out looking for the smartest dog. Well, let me back up a little. We have had dogs all of our lives. I mean all types from Dachshunds to Danes, and while they all had their own special kind of charm, something was missing. Sure, they all had that unconditional love that we all enjoy so
much but we wanted more. I guess we also wanted a brain as well as a heart, and we found it with the Border Collie.
Herding Dogs are bred for their working ability according to the need of the farmer or stockmen at the time the breed is developed. Genetic make-up is the most important facter in determing the working characteristics of a Herding Dog. Laddy, our main stud dog is decended from a long line of Champions. For instance, in the Grand Surpreme only three dogs have ever won it twice and two of the

dogs are in Laddy's bloodlines and if Wiston Cap won it twice that would make all three. Wiston Cap is in Laddy's mother's side of the family. Laddy's grandfather ## Sweep won the Grand Surpreme in 1998 and his great grandfather ## Spot won in1991 and in 1994 and the list goes on. Besides all that, he is my best buddy, he works sheep when I need him to and helps me when I go to schools and other events across the southeast. ( ## before the name means G.B. International Champion # before the name means G.B. National Champion )
My dogs and I travel to many different places, dog events, retirement homes, and to varieous schools, to entertain and educate people about dogs and Border Collies. Shown below are Jill and myself at the famous William Harris Homestead. Children never get enough of Jill and she certainly never gets enough of them. Jill is one of those dogs that never gets tired of being petted, I guess you could say she is a real people dog, and she is also one of the best farm dogs you could ever ask for. Jill's puppy's are some of the best on the Trial circuit today. I have seen her bring a whole field of sheep right to my feet just the way I have seen her bring a whole field of children to her's. She truly is one of the most wonderful dogs in the world. To call her a dog might not be fair, you might have to call her a true working Border Collie.
