ARTIST: Debelah Morgan
ALBUM TITLE
: Dance With Me
RELEASE YEAR: 2000
RATING: Very Good

Debelah Morgan is probably one of the most underappreciated vocalists this side of Motown.  After her much-underappreciated 1998  set "It's Not Over," many thought she was done for, especially after the Polygram shake-up left her without a deal.
Luckily, DAS Products (they of the 98 Degrees juggernaut) picked her up.  The result: a smashing new album under Atlantic Records and a fabulous new single that landed her in the Top 15 of the Billboard Hot 100.
"Dance With Me" incorporates many classic elements, including old school R&B, funk, gospel, hiphop  and - get this - tango.  The first single, the title track, is one of those "love it, hate it" tracks, and rightly so.  Sampling classic 1960s tango track "Hernando's Hideaway" has done wonders for the track, which picked up slowly at radio and finally hit.
Miss Morgan's voice reminds many of a young Mariah Carey - in control.  Several times during the album, she hits those high notes effortlessly and playfully.  She twirls and throws those notes around without breaking into a sweat.  This kind of talent shouldn't be ignored.
Other smart tracks that should cross over smoothly into radio include the sizzling "Let's Get It On," absolute foot-stomper "Take The Rain Away" and potential club smash ""Baby I Need Your Love."   "Think Of You" and its intro are fabulous in their entirety - a mere five minutes.  "Come and Danz" invites one to do exactly that.
She shines on the ballads as well.  "Close To You" screams for single release, while "Bring Back The Sun" is delicious in its simplicity.  "Alright" simmers in gospel flavor - to die for, I kid you not.  The stand-out tracks, of course, are "Dance With Me" and second track "I Remember."  The latter, a midtempo toe-tapper, is nothing short of pure listening pleasure.
Debelah and her producer, brother Giloh Morgan, have succeeded in creating a record that should cross over into many markets.  "Dance With Me" is a stellar production that deserves more than one listen.
