December 2000 The lease at our current location expires August, 31, 2001. With that in mind, we would like to be in our new facility by the middle of August. Our new address will be 3125 East Woodhams Drive. The new building will be in Windsor Park and is approximately a 5 minute drive from our current location. For years we have felt that we have outgrown our current facility and that the rent money should be going towards a mortgage. We want a building that we can call "our own." We will increase our facility by 1,500 square feet and the new building will allow for enhanced playrooms, a larger kitchen, extra space for additional enrollment and we will be able to offer infant care to the community. We will also add a larger outdoor play area for the kids. We will be located closer to our school location, a library and the Sandra Schmurler Leisure Centre. |

December 2000 Since we will be changing our name to coincide with the move to our new location, we will be running a contest for our families to name the new daycare. Rules and prizes will be discussed at our next board meeting. |

27 February 2001 Thank you to the parents who were able to attend our meeting on February 13th. For those who could not attend; The property taxes for our new location have been assessed at $29,256. and they may be increased in the new year. This amount is not affordable and it has put our whole building project in jeopardy. At this point, our lawyer is looking into an appeal process, as well as changing our assessment to residential rather than commercial. This could be a lengthy process, but we think we will be in our current location for at least one more year. In the meantime we are going after corporate sponsorships. If we can substantially reduce the amount of the mortgage, then the taxes may be more affordable. If any parents work for companies who give financial donations, please let us know so we can forward a letter. |

5 June 2001 Due to the high assessment on our new building / property, we have postponed our relocation. We have renewed our lease for one year (expiring September 2002), in our current facility. We have a committee working with City Hall regarding our tax issue, but we are not very optimistic. Our options are very limited, a few other avenues being explored are; Selling the land and purchasing an existing building, and possible going to the media with our story. Any suggestions / ideas from our parent group are welcome! |
2 October 2001 We are still fundraising for our new building project by working bingos at the Fantasyland Bingo Hall. We are currently raising money for a down payment on our new facility. Although we do have a lease signed at our current location until September 2002, projections indicate that we may be here until September 2003.
