No one knows the size or dimensions of outer space. Therefore it is believed that Space is infinite. Outer Space contains stars of different size, Planets, Moons, Asteroids, etc. These celestial bodies have their own orbits and axis of rotation. The main reason for this is the Gravitational force. The Moon also rotates around Earth in its own orbit.

The Solar System came into being from the Sun. Our Sun is a medium sized star. Solar System contains of planets and their moons. The planets revolve around the Sun and the Moons revolve around the specific planet as well as the Sun. For example, our Moon revolves around the Earth, and at the same time revolves around the Sun together with the Earth.

Long long ago, a large Star came closer to our Sun and collided with it. Due to this collision, some of the matter was ejected from the Sun, as a result of which, planets and moons were formed. All these newly formed bodies also started to revolve around the Sun. The Earth was therefore formed from the material ejected from the Sun, and the Moon was formed from the Material ejected from Earth.

Earth has only one Moon, which we call 'Chandrama' in Nepali. It takes 27 days, 7 hours, 43 minutes and 11 seconds for the Moon to revolve around the Earth. The Moon revolves around Earth by showing the same face towards the Earth. The reason being that it takes the same time for the Moon to revolve around the Earth and around its own axis. When the Moon comes in between Earth and the Sun, then the unlit surface of the Moon faces towards the Earth. We call this as New Moon.

For the Earth, the Moon is the nearest space body. In spite of this, it is different from Earth in the sense that it doesn't have climate like we have here in Earth. Therefore there is no life in Moon. It doesn't have oxygen and water, which are fundamental things for living beings.

Scientists are these days doing research on how to use the Moon for the benefit of Humankind. I believe that, as population is increasing in Earth, its going to be crowdy here in the near future, as a result the Earth will be congested for the increased population. We need to think ways of taking water and air to the Moon and start living there as well.

When I saw the crescent Moon through the Telescope I saw lot of small pits on the surface. When it rains for the first time after a long dry season, we see similar pits, as the rain drops smash the dusty ground. It was surprising for me that I saw these pits on crescent Moon through the Telescope, but I could not see them during full moon !

As per our Hindu Religion, we worship the Moon as it is believed to be the incarnation of God. But now Humans have already visited the Moon. However, there seems be no place like Earth appropriate for Human life. All things we need are available on Earth.

If I happen to be on the Moon someday, I will send the following message to the People on Earth:

"We Humans are lucky that all the things we need, like Air, Water, Warmth (appropriate temperature) etc are available only on Earth. Therefore, we need to learn to protect the Earth. Do not pollute Air. Learn how to use Water appropriately and efficiently. Do not increase population, Protect and preserve all things on Earth for future generations. Do not let species of animals and plants become extinct. This is a scientific age, so do not follow old beliefs and superstitions. The Moon does not have Oxygen, therefore, we need to take it from Earth if we want to live here. There is only one place where we can live, and it is the Earth. There is no place like Home!"
