My wife and I had spent about five years researching uncle Ben Strickland and his involvement and death in World War II. I decided to write a book "Love Always,Ben" to honor him and the other brave men and women who served to preserve the freedom we enjoy today. I knew  eventually that I would be speaking to large groups and needed help with my communication skills.

I gave my first speech before joining toastmasters and was very nervous but managed to endure the pain. I saw an ad in the Gaston Gazette telling all the details of the local toastmasters meeting held every Thursday and I did visit and joined within the month. I was pleased to see how this would help me in my daily life. The members were friendly, supportive and very helpful.

I am improving every day with my communication skills; Not just public speaking, but with my one on one skills.
I can now make presentations and readings without getting too nervous.
