History of Queer Parenting
History of Queer Parenting
In
years past, queer parenting was considered untraditional.
Queer parents were outsiders in the areas of schools and childcare.
Now queer parents have realized that they can put pressure on the system
to help them meet their children’s needs.
Modern
day queer families are diverse. They
range from children of a previous heterosexual marriage to in vetero
fertilization. According to
Chris Bull, the author of the article “The New Activism”, “. . . gay
parenting is booming.”
The bans made on same sex
couples have left queer parents running rampant and looking for ways to make
their families legitimate. Queer
parents are working to decriminalize sodomy laws.
Also anti-discrimination laws are being made to help stablelize queer
families.
